Re: Books that make you want to poke your eyes out
Any of that teeny-bopper-formulated-to-make-you-cry junk. Nicholas Sparks for example. Lauraline MacDaniel. UGH. I'd rather read almost anything than sappy, disguisting romance that ends in cancer.

Oh, I agree with you. Years ago I tried to read the 3 books but never made it though the first one. And I have to say the movies are not that great either.
Yeah, I don't like them either. I'm not fan of scfi books and movies. And also I don't like HP books and movies. I wierd - I konw this. Everybody (almost) liike them, except me!
I've tried reading the books, but everytime I end up giving it up. I like the movies and everything, but I just can't get into the books.

Re: Books that make you want to poke your eyes out
I would have to agree with Bee about the Scarlet Letter. I have never gotten past a few pages because it was just waaaay too boring.
I'd have to say I didn't like a lot of novels I had to read for High School English. There is one about an Existentialist that was really horrid, but I can't remember the name of it for the life of me. (Shows how stunning it was).
On the other hand, I love certain Sci-Fi books (Star Wars, usually), love LOTR, know I'll like HP once I get my hands on the copies, etc.
oh - and I absolutely hated Wuthering Heights - both the book and the movie. Bleh!
Oh - and I have a whole list of Christian Romance authors that I won't touch with a ten foot pole, Lori Wick being one of them.

Lord of the Flies. I've never hated a book so much. It was so boring. And I have to agree with the Scarlet Letter thing. I really did not like that book. We had to read it in school last month and I couldn't get through it. It was the first book that I used Sparknotes on.

Re: Books that make you want to poke your eyes out
I hated The Waves by Virginia Woolf. Read the whole thing because I couldn't see how a book so short was getting to me. I should have just put it down. UGH.
I can't get through the first chapter of James Joyce's A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. As if the pretentious title wasn't bad enough, the first few pages made me want to rip the book up.

I agree on Joyce-some of my professors worship the ground he walks on and I *don't get it*.
