The Donor Show : Who has won the kidney ?

How sick can we get ?

John de Mol,co-founder of Endemol-TV,has launched another idea, pushing TV further into the dirt.

A show, where a terminal-ill woman, only a few months to live, will decide, which patient out of three will get her kidney.
The two others are...losers...

People can give " advice" by SMS.

It is drenched in the usual idealistic sugarcoated motives, to give "donorship" attention.

What next ? Executions ?

Re: Back to the Middle Ages...

And this is "reality TV"???
The closest thing in the real world that resembles "win a kidney" would be vying to be the next customer at a butcher shop.

I don't know if anyone could create a more insensitive program. But I'm sure our networks will give it the old college try.

Re: Back to the Middle Ages...

It was all a big hoax, almost Anne-3-forum worthy ! emoticon
I have not seen the show, because I had to work. I would not have looked probably anyway.

85 internatonial TV-crews, including CNN, were present to watch a terminal patient giving her kidney to one of the three patients. At the moment-supreme, the terminal patient explained she was a very healthy actress. The patients were real, but not as ill as they were introduced, and they were in the complot.

The show caused a lot of anger, in Holland and abroad. The parlement tried to stop it, but could find any legal way.

Motive for the show was to draw attention to donorship.

Producer John de Mol is known for a bit raunchy shows
The channel broadcasting the show, BNN, was founded by Bart de Graaff.
He looked like a 12 year old boy when he died at age 32, because of a kidney-disease, 5 years ago.
Out of scrap, he builded a rebellious TV-channel.
National celebs, always laughing when a camera is near, were visited unexpected by his camera-team in the early morning-hours: "Now we are going to play snooker !".

Two very beautifull, popular actresses showed character by signing a contract with him, instead of going for the big money.
They interviewed politicians during elections: In a disco, or in the sauna !( Not fully nude emoticon)
No way anybody dared to refuse an invitation by these ladies.

Bart de Graaff must have had a wonderfull night, sitting on a cload somewhere...

Sofar, 30.000 people have asked for a donor-codicile, that permits being used as donor, "when the Time comes "
