Re: The Ultimate Harry Potter Thread
Um technically we were nearing the end of thread 5...specifically we had all just raved over the OotP trailer....had a bit of the Snape good/notgood discussion..and oh yeah..a bit of jokery of the nature of the Harry Potter puppets.

Re: The Ultimate Harry Potter Thread
my.. I missed the naked quidditch match discussion.. although methinks that's a good thing.. not sure I should be lusting after teenagers, even if they are fictional.
anyway, happy HP reading/viewing to all. I brought home a book from the school library in hopes of convincing my parents that HP is good (after thanksgiving break they were willing to watch the films- and allow all younger siblings to watch- but are still concerned about the occult.. hopefully Looking for God in Harry Potter (a really good book, btw) will help).

Re: The Ultimate Harry Potter Thread
*sighs*. I get so sick of the arguments about Harry Potter leading kids to a cult. The magic is just a trope. And what's wrong with a little imagination anyway? By the time children read Harry Potter, they've figured out the difference between fantasy and reality.
But I'm preaching to the choir, I suppose...

Re: The Ultimate Harry Potter Thread
yeah.. I think in my family's case we tend to be overcautious because we lived in ****m, MA for a long time (where it was, in fact, a real concern).. on the bright side, my parents are open-minded generally.. they did listen to what I had to say and had the whole family watch the first 3 films when ABC Family showed them a couple weekends ago. Also, they never wasted any time denigrating them, thankfully. At this point they're having their most fun teasing me about them.. but now that I've seen DaVinci Code, which they've read, I can tease them back about pagan rituals, ###.

Different subject:
Does anyone know anything about Professor McGonagall and the Order? The author who wrote this book seems to think she's in it, and Harry Potter Wiki has her in a list of members of the Second OotP. But I don't recall reading anything that hinted particularly either way. Do any of you have any insights/thoughts/feelings on the matter? I mean, I definitely think she's a good person, I just don't know how involved in the resistance she'd be.

The whole argument that Harry Potter is devilish is so tired. Really, there are worse things in the world, folks.
At least your parents are open-minded.

McGonagall's in the OotP. Harry saw/heard her entering the Black house during his stay there. She's definitely a member.

Re: The Ultimate Harry Potter Thread
Okay, that would take care of it.. I would've thought I'd remember something like that.. I guess I'm surprised that Harry didn't think of her more as someone he could turn to then...
thanks for clearing it up.
