So, Guess What, WaMBers!?

Give up!?

I just watched the first WaMB episode, "Four Walls and a Roof" (that's the name, right?) the other night having rented it from NetFlix.

What did I think of it? I was shocked... shocked that Father Bailey (what's his name) died. I guess I wasn't expecting it to happen not having known too much about the characters beforehand. While it shocked me, I also didn't feel too badly about it. Maybe it was because the chemistry between Honey and Father (WHAT IS HIS NAME!!) wasn't there fore me. Ironically, I had seen a few WaMB episode many moons ago when it aired on the Hallmark channel, and obviously I didn't realize that Hub and Fat were fatherless.

It's going to take me a while to get used to the superly weird nicknames they have going on all over the place... Hub, Honey, Toppy, and especially FAT! I hate that name, but I'm sure it might grown on me. I don't have an opinion of the series yet as the 1st episode seemed to have a lot happening in it. I am waiting to get the 2nd DVD and will hopefully post my opinions as I watch more episodes...

YAY! emoticon

Thanks for posting your thoughts on the first episode. emoticon

I guess it's a good thing to not be too attached to Jack (the dad) since he's not around for long... Jack and Honey did argue an awful lot at the beginning of the episode. I always find it neat to watch Jack and Fat in the first episode since they're real father-and-son.

You're right about the nicknames being strange... I don't think I've ever heard of a kid being called "Fat" except in mean name-calling, but the kid seems to take it in stride. emoticon

Looking forward to your opinions of other episodes in Season 1. emoticon

Yay, glad you have checked it out! Stick with it a little, it becomes a less depressing later on.

I think the nickname thing was the generation. My Grandmother was known as Bunny or Tootie, she had her friends that we (the children) called Auntie Moose-feathers and Uncle Peanut and no one really knew where the names started.

Yay, Whitters! But yes, definitely stick with it, as it does get better. If you get into season two you can watch my buddy Dr. Snow/Mr. Kendrick. emoticon

Kindred, there's a lady where my grandmother lives whose name is Boots. emoticon

WhitneyLyn,

I'm glad you got to start watching WAMB! I started out pretty much the same way you did: I had never heard of WAMB and was encouraged by some forum folk to give it a try. I got the first 2 episodes on VHS from SE when I ordered RtA season 6 and have been watching the rest via NetFlix.

I've now seen all of season 1, and am waiting for the second disc from season 2 to arrive from NetFlix: it was supposedly shipped from Georgia last Thursday and it still hasn't arrived...

The series is nothing like RtA; there are a lot more sad moments and it's often quite depressing, but it's a good show nonetheless. I still don't like Honey at all, but other than that I really look forward to seeing what happens next each time a DVD arrives. emoticon

Re: So, Guess What, WaMBers!?

JACK!! Thank you, HistoryMiner... that name was going to send me to my grave. You're totally right about the nickname, Fat... that's usually meant in a derogatory way. Maybe I'll have Henry in my head when someone hollers for "Fat"... :P

Haha Dan... these WaMB fans are convincing, aren't they! :P I'm with you, though. I haven't warmed up to Honey yet either... although I can't say that for sure after only one episode. I do know one thing for sure... I'm not a fan of May!

Those names are too weird, Kindred and Avster... I guess I have never been one for odd nicknames sticking throughout one's life. My best friend growing up was known as Bean (because she was as skinny as a string bean) to most of her family and friends, but I couldn't bring myself to call her that... I opted for a variation of her real name instead. Boots, Tootie, and Moose-Feathers... seriously!? emoticon

I do plan on sticking with the series to see what it's all about. I did like the 1st episode, but there was so much that went on during it that it was a bit overwhelming...

I'm waiting patiently for disc #2... apparently the NetFlix "warehouse" closest to me in Salt Lake doesn't have WaMB in stock, so they've been shipping them from Kentucky. Good ol' Kentucky... emoticon

Yeah, May is a little like Hetty. Both can be a bit emoticon.

And then there's the lovable Toppy and Doris. emoticon

Moose-Feathers

Moose-Feathers would take a lot getting used to. emoticon Thank goodness such nicknames aren't in vogue anymore.

You're right... they jammed-packed that first episode.

I wonder how many people order this series... I guess one would only find it if they already knew of the series by name.

LOL at the descriptions on NetFlix. For Season 1 of "Road to Avonlea", they have "Young Sara Stanley must come to terms with a lower income"... I don't remember Sara having an income in Season 1.

What's with only 2.5 stars for WAMB? emoticon Most of the "Avonlea" DVDs only have 3.5 stars. They deserve more than that.

WhitneyLyn,

I'm having the same problem! My first DVD (season 1 disc 2) came from Gaithersburg, MD. The next one actually came from Omaha (Yay! I get those in a day). Then, from Santa Ana, CA. The latest one claims to have been shipped from Duluth, GA. It has been over a week and I haven't seen it (the estimated arrival was Monday). I reported it missing yesterday and they're supposed to re-ship Season 2 disc 2 today...who knows where it will come from. emoticon

Geesh... that's annoying. Hopefully, it was because of the abundant Christmas mail that it never got to you.

I finally got the 2nd disk in the mail a few days ago, but haven't watched any of it yet because I'm trying to space out my time. I only have the 2 DVDs a month plan, and the next time I can get another one would be after January 4th. I'm also hoping that I may have gotten season 1 for Christmas from my mom... *hope* is the key word. I dropped plenty of hints... and even emailed her the Sullivan website... Yah, I'm really subtle.
