What would you have done?

I was thinking about Jack and Honey at that dinner in the first episode, and the whole incident about the roast. If you were Jack or Honey, what would you have done differently?

And if you were Honey, after May had told her she was no longer welcomed in the house, would you have taken the kids with you, or left them with May?

It has been a while (several months) since I have seen the first episode, and I don't recall the roast scene enough to comment on that one.

As for the issue with May trying to kidnap the children, the kids would have come with me.

I don't remember the roast incident either; but I definitely would have taken the kids with me.

The kids would have definitely come with me. I was surprised at how easily Honey let them go. May wasn't holding a gun to her head or anything and they ARE her property...

As for the roast beef... I don't think I would have made such a huge deal about it if I were Jack. I've been to many a family dinner/dinner party where I haven't liked/couldn't eat what was being served, and I just quietly skipped over that part of the meal and just ate the other things on the table. I think the whole thing was blown wayyyy out of proportion on both sides.

Re: What would you have done?

I think Honey let them go because she knew May was right... she wouldn't have been able to get a job to support the kids if she were with them. She had no one to leave her kids with, and whether or not she liked May, she knew that they would at least be safe at May's. May also threatened to have declared her an unfit mother if she left her kids for a job with no place to live... she was pretty much penniless with no possessions, after a bankrupcy. I'm personally not sure what I would have done if I were in Honey's position.

For the roast scene, I wouldn't have gotten as upset as Jack did. I probably wouldn't have gotten upset. :b

Leaving the kids... hrm... I probably would've left them, but would have made May promise to that as soon as I had the money, that I could have the kids back.

I don't think you can blame Honey for not wanting to eat the roast since it went against her religion. I think that if Jack hadn't lost his temper, they woudnn't have had to part on such bad terms.

I don't know. I would have wanted to bring my children away with me, but Honey didn't have a job, didn't have a house, and didn't have any money. Also she knew she'd be depending on her brother for support and she knew that he wasn't the most responsible person. I'm sure that Honey really thought she was doing the best thing at the time by leaving Hub and Fat with May.

Re: What would you have done?

I think Jack blowing up about the roast beef was a culmination of everything he was angry about. He hadn't been home for a long time, and his conflicts with May were probably never properly resolved. I think he was already on edge because he hated to have to ask for help from May and Bob, and it was the last straw, basically dictating what his family is allowed to eat and having the smug superior attitude.

The way May put it was harsh as well, not letting Grace make a grilled cheese sandwich. May was not doing her part to make this a reconciliation rather than a confrontation.
