Anne Prequel Book
There is lots of publicity in Canada surrounding the upcoming prequel book, which is being released Tuesday.
Here's an article in this morning's paper...

Re: Anne Prequel Book
I'm starting to wonder what it'll be about. I felt like we know Anne's history already.

Re: Anne Prequel Book
I love the look of the special edition of Anne.
There's also a volume of LMM's scrapbooks coming out this year, and there's supposed to be a big biography on LMM that has been in the works for years.
Are any of you planning to read the prequel?

Here's another article in the paper:

Kevin Sullivan knew this prequel book was coming out, and the timing was also knowing that this year is the anniversary.
I also find it interesting the heirs want to make this new book into a movie... story-wise, it will be written by a respected author, but I suppose books don't always translate well into movie whereas Sullivan's version was written directly as a screenplay. Whoever turns it into a movie will also have to pay the author and the heirs for the film rights to the book, and Sullivan won't have to do that.
They will probably mention the same characters, though, like the Thomases and the Hammonds. It will be interesting to compare.

Re: Anne Prequel Book
Alas, it's a sad, grim yarn or, as Anne herself might have said, a story from the "pit of despair."
Oops!
I think that the prequel book will be better than Sullivan's Anne4. The last article I read on Anne4 made it sound as though it's kinda going to be another Anne3. I really enjoy Anne3 though. I don't know which is better- or worse, I guess; a prequel movie made up from "scratch" or a continuing movie made up from "scratch". At least so far Sullivan Ent. doesn't seem to do the Disney with sequels. Disney has to have the dumbest prequels.
I guess some might say, "Of course the movie is going to be another Anne3! It came for the writer's heads, not LMM's head!"
Anyway, I think that the book will be better liked than Anne4, but we'll see.
Are any of you planning to read the prequel?
I'm thinking about pre-ordering it from Amazon. It's a little bit of a hard decision for me, because I've been saving my 'out of the bank' money for a new camera lens. :b
I will definitely get the book at some point. Maybe maison will buy it and won't like it, and then sell it to me.
At least the book is hardback! I wonder if it has a dj or if it's a pictorial hardback? I hope it's dj.
What about you, Val? Are you going to be getting the book?
EtA: Ooh, it's four hundred pages! That's always a plus when buying a new book!

Re: Anne Prequel Book
quote: HistoryMiner wrote:

Well, Kevin Sullivan did have a prequel idea years before anyone else, in animation form anyway with Anne: Journal to Green Gables. If the Calgary Herald article mentioned that, if would give everything a different slant and make the heirs look like they were copying his idea.
I agree Bets, there are so many other movies to be made from LMM books.
The Wilson prequel doesn't sounds much like LMM if it's making people cry straight through. No one has mentioned laughter, which is what I love LMM for. Of course, we know the book will be depressing, which is why LMM never wrote it. She just summarized Anne's history succinctly and got on with the happy part at Green Gables. I like ****ens and all, but he's not LMM, and Wilson-writing-like-****ens for an LMM prequel seems a bit strange.
