Pettibones or Lesters - who did you like more?
I have been rewatching Season 6, and I noticed that a lot of the episodes involved the Pettibones and the Lesters.
Which of these families did you enjoy watching more?
I know Davey episodes are generally unpopular... did you enjoy storylines about these families more or less than Davey?
Did the Pettibones and the Lesters take focus away from the Kings?

I think the storylines enhanced the episodes about the Kings.
They were great families for them to interact with, most especially the Pettibones. They were closer to the King's having many close friendships between different members of their families.
In fact, I am in the camp that firmly believes that their two clans would have joined eventually anyways.

Long live the Pettibones! How could you even put them in league with the Lesters?!! Granted, Becky was cute but...the Pettibones have Clive. And Muriel. And Izzy. And Arthur. (and Morgan-ish).

And only Morgan-ish because he barely got anything to do.
The Lesters were only vaguely important because of Becky and her brother.
The oldest one, Nat was a ****head (pardon me, but he was!), and only served to cause a fight between Fizz.

I didn't remember much of the Lesters the first time I watched the series, but saw that they were around a lot more in Season 6.
Wiley Lester played an important role in "The More Things Change", and the whole Lester clan figured prominently in "Lonely Hearts".
I remember Arthur in "Comings and Goings"... was he in any other Season 6 episode? What about Morgan?

Morgan was seen off and on in season 4 (played by Mark Bigney then), then disappeared to military school for the next two seasons, and made only one more appearance in "Woman of Importance" (this time, played by Toby Proctor). Free Morgan!
Arthur's only season six episodes are "Comings and Goings" and "The More Things Change". He would also return for "Woman of Importance"; and, of course, he was Hetty's "favourite horse doctor" in HCMK. 
Anyhoo, I liked the Pettibones a lot more. The family members were more interesting, which made me care about them more.
I think the main reasons the Lesters were introduced were: 1) to give Davey and Dora (mostly Davey) some friends and playmates in Wiley and Becky; 2) to provide a different picture of family life in Avonlea (a large family living in poverty, in comparison to the seemingly well-to-do Kings); and 3) in regards to Nat and Donny, to create a wedge between the Fizz (stupid pompous blowhards!). That said, I'll take the Lesters (even the two blowhards) over the King of Storyline Thieves (Davey) anytime.
