Would you like living with Hetty?
I watched a bit of "Emily of New Moon" the other night, which got me thinking...
Who would you most and least want to live with among the older "spinsters" - Marilla, Aunt Elizabeth, or Hetty? How does Hetty compare with the other two in terms of harshness and rigidity?
Do you feel Hetty was changed a lot by Sara staying at Rose Cottage, like Marilla was changed by Anne?

Yes, I do. Hetty definitely mellowed with age. She was still bossy and stuff, but nothing like she was in the first season and some of the second. She became much more enjoyable. Sara helped with that, I think.

Re: Would you like living with Hetty?
I'll throw my hat in with Marilla as well. She was able to see the humor in things and admit mistakes, and kind of grow along with Anne. Hetty would be next in line for me-sometimes I think living with her would be torture and other times I think it would be hilarious because she is just so *exaggerated*. Aunt Elizabeth would be unbearable.

Re: Would you like living with Hetty?
I think perhaps that is because Aunt Elizabeth doesn't change in her ways. She seems to be more set in her ways and traditions than Hetty or Marilla.
Marilla and Hetty are capable of mellowing and changing, but Elizabeth wasn't and never would be.
Marilla and Hetty were both mellowed by their girls, yet they also managed to raise them to independence, responsibility and well turned out, likeable young ladies.
I suppose you could say in that situation they both helped each other along.
The situation was different because of personalities at New Moon. Aunt Elizabeth was even more proud and set in her ways than either of her fellow female spinsters.
