That episode was by far the worst I have seen so far. Totally silly. LMM would never have had a death and a kidnapping in the same chapter, not even in the same book probably. In fact the whole kidnapping thing seems out of place. It's a bit Anne3ish. To combine all this with a death even feels unfeeling, and the death and its inpact isn't developed at all. And in the next episode Sara seems to be well over it.

I suppose they felt they had to kill off Blair Stanley to explain why Sara would remain and become fully established in Avonlea.

It is strange how little they dealt with the death and its impact on Sara. I suppose the way it was handled kept the show lighthearted.

You're very probably right, HistoryMiner. But I still do wish they had done it in a different way. Here I wish they would have followed the book more closely. LMM didn't need to have Blair Stanley killed to explain Sara's staying at ther aunt's. Blair Stanley was just busy travelling. That could have worked well in the tv-series too. Sara should have been made to make the choise of where she belonged herself, and the choise should not have been made for her by her father's death. I was really dissapointed because I imagined the episode "Sara's Homecoming" would be about Sara coming home from Montreal after a stay when she would have realized PEI is her real home now, and her father would have accepted that too. I had it all ready imagined in my head. emoticon And that was what the last episode of season 1 pointed to too...

Re: Road to Avonlea vs The Story Girl

And to continue about Gus now that I'm halfaway into the season 2. Gus seratinly is a good thing. He is the new Gilbert. Not that they have that much in common expect their role in the story. I would say a Gus+Felicity romance works better than a Peter+Felicity one. Peter is too lame and good for Felicity. A character like Felicity obviously needs to realize something. Besides the poor guy+rich girl story is an universal story, a sure bet. Well, Peter would have been a poor guy too, but Felicity would have totally dominated him, and they wouldn't have been happy... l0l A Rachel and Thomas Lynde just doesn't feel right in the younger generation. As far as I remember LMM didn't write any young such couples either.
