Living Simply

Here are some questions for which "Simplicity" is still a great answer...

1. How can I have time for what is important to me? ---- Simplicity!

2. What can middle class folks do about economic injustice? ---- Simplify!

3. I always have more month than money -- how can I get out of debt? ----- Simplify!

4. I want to do something for the earth... what can I do? ---- Live with Simplicity!

Simple living (a.k.a. voluntary simplicity) is not about poverty or deprivation. It is about discovering what is "enough" in your life -- based upon thoughtful analysis of your lifestyle and values -- and discarding the rest.

Simplicity is a growing trend in the United States and other industrial countries. Millions of people (by some estimates over 50 million) are trying to slow down, work meaningfully, be engaged in relationships, family and community, get out of debt and reduce wasteful consumption.

It goes without saying that each of us is unique. We are all at different places in our lives. There is no one formula for simplifying that will work for everyone.

That said, it is easy to understand why traveling the path to simplicity gets a bit more complex at this point. There are a lot of forks in the road. Essentially, they all lead to the same place, but only you can decide which route to take.

Sometimes the process of simplifying may be anything but simple. You may have to ask yourself some difficult questions and will probably have to change some of your habits. "Simple" does not necessarily equal "easy!"

Re: Living Simply

I don't know why we make our own lives so complicated and get all those guilts if we don't do things that are deemed to be "right and proper" all the time.

We go away on self-catering holidays mostly, and we always live so simply there and yet we eat well and have oodles of time for relaxation. Why do I rush around planning dinner each night at home? Lol! Every time we go I vow to change things but within a couple of days of being back here, I'm back on the carousel again!

We're de-cluttering and downsizing big time right now because we're moving to a retirement village soon and have to sell the big house. Very hard, because I'm so sentimental. But ruthlessness is called for and it's incredible how easy it is to manage without all those material things around once they've gone.

Don't need all those things to clean and dust - want to enjoy retirement and have more time, and so simplify is definitely the word!
