Eating like our ancestors

To paraphrase Michael Pollan, renowned author, professor, and food expert: You can not go wrong eating the way our great-grandparents ate - and that included fiber and nutrient rich foods.

They did not eat artificial/ highly refined sweeteners and grains. They did not ingest flouride... their air and waters were clean, etc. - until the greed of mankind thirsted for agri-business in their quest for financial superiority and power.

The result is a people with weak health systems requiring more health care -- crumbling under the demands being made upon it due to too many ills.

He sums up this philosophy this way:

"Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants."

Check out this interview of him by The Sierra Club titled: "The Cheapest Calories Make You the Fattest."

One phrase really stood out for me in that article:

quote:

Why don't we pay more attention to who our farmers are? We would never be as careless choosing an auto mechanic or a babysitter as we are about who grows our food.

Wow, isn't that the truth! I will be thinking about this more...

Yes, living in the country would be easier to go to the farms to buy food. I live in large town with no farms for miles and miles. Where or how would I know??

Some stores carry meat that is free range, no antibiotics or hormones. Our Giant Eagle has 2 brands. They are more expensive but what do you think? Are we worth the extra price? Hmmm emoticon

Oh, wanted to tell you the brand names: one is Coleman, the other is Amy's (I think the second one is right, it's in the frozen version only.) Coleman's is fresh.
