The tale of Verda Dha'wherd Axbyte Wrymslayer
The blade plunged through the heart of the sleeping terror that had once been Lord de Burne. A gout of blood, redder than the finest Vermarchi wine drenched the three crouched by the opened hole. Cloying yellow fumes with the stench of sulfur indicated that the blessed Blade of Saint Idona The Warrior Maiden, had struck the abomination's stomach.
Verda was hit full in the face by the billowing cloud, and could do nothing but inhale the stuff. The evil vapors burned the flesh of her lungs and she fought for breath.
The ground heaved beneath their feet and all ran for safety. Jacob dived over the hole to retrieve the blade, and Verda called for him to return it to her, even if she did not escape from this hell, she would not die without a blade at her side.
Time seemed to slow as she struggled to run from the wyrm's violent death-throes. It was a creature born of malevolent intent, murder and suffering. It's flesh was torn from the roots of the hills, and now it was tearing it's womb apart. The old de Burne warbanner hung from her right shoulder, it's edges being ripped by the wildly flailing bushes. A tree crashed down in front of her and she fell over it, only barely landing on her feet on the other side. As she started to move again, a pine landed behind her and she stumbled, colliding heavily with another. The impact drove what little breath she had from her lungs, and she bent double coughing. Her compatriots were nowhere in sight and she was sure that her time had come. But she could never give up. Her hand rested on the ichor coated hilt of her sword and she silently prayed.
"Grey Lady, if I am to fall here, let one of my fellows live to tell the tale of what we have done. I have lived well, and I die a Wyrmslayer."
As if it could hear her thoughts through it's death agonies, the dying wyrm writhed making the ground beneath her feet ripple. Verda fell onto her left side, and she felt her shield arm snap. Forcing herself back up, she dropped the shield and took a firm grip on her baldrick.
The world became a haze of pain and she could never recall much of the last few minutes of her flight. She was found face up in a ditch, whispering incoherently in the tongue of her homeland.

You can call yourself Wyrmslayer if you can prove it...

But how do we know that she was the one who actually killed it?
You can never trust a Fensperson.

Re: The tale of Verda Dha'wherd Axbyte Wrymslayer
In all fairness, Creed's (the bloke known to the Champion) testimony 'only' credits her with 1/11th of a Wyrm and banner.
Since this is precisely 1/11th more than anyone else in Algundy or the Fens for the last few hundred years with the exception of a small band of dysfunctional adventurers and miscreants however, I think she can get away with putting the '1/11th' part of her title in really, really small print.
Except in the Fens, where I believe you'll find we were all flunkies to her heroics, if we get mentioned at all. ^_^
