Wars of the Roses Period Costume.
I just read the bit about costume, specially the bit where it says players should bring "wars of the roses style period costume". The only person whos turned up with a character that looks remotely 15th early 16th century's is of course Steve. So here are some links for those who want to bring their characters slightly more into the fashions that Steve splendidly modeled for us last September.

I know that a lot of this stuff is re enactment quality, but if it inspires people to come up with clothing closer to the world Steve has envisioned for us I think its worth it.
(I know this is all a bit rich coming from someone who's character is a 12th century style monastic knight... Oh well practice what you preach and all that, I'd better get out my doublet for September....)

That's a little it harsh isnt it Jasper? After all:

rather than a demand that we all dress in that fashion, it is merely meant as encouragement dont you think?

Dumnonni are not nazi about costume just a little hard.
As for costume from what i can tell peasant costume doesn't change too much from dark ages till past war of the roses as the peasants like always cannot afford what the lords can afford. the material might change a little but the style not too much. after all what use would a peasant or a monastic style knight have for doublet. you wear the clothing best suited to what you mainly do. doublet and hose are nice ideas but if you mainly fight you'd be more likely to wear fighting type things. so as opposed to doublet a gambeson (ok if a lord a clean one) would be in keeping as you wouldn't know when you would be expected to put your armour on or how quickly.

To both posts, thank you, and your both right. I'm not trying to dictate what people ware, and I know this is a fantasy larp not a historical re enactment. But the point Im trying to make is that there is a world of difference between the player who's really thought a bit about their kit and the player who turns up in a starched white shirt and trainers.
Not that any of us are that bad. but I have seen pics of groups who are.

I agree about peasant costume, female peasant costume stays static for an even longer period, with only slight variations on styles of bodice and so on.
