Come One, Come All to Our Community Book Burning!
Fun for the whole family! Yes, sirree, it's a good ole fashoned book burnin'.
http://shreveporttimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080607/NEWS01/806070336&referrer=FRONTPAGECAROUSEL
quote: That is one reason pastors from several denominations and races ripped pages from "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone." Those and pages from a pornographic magazine were put into a burn pit and set afire as praises bellowed from the congregation.
"As I tore the pages, I felt a generational curse of immorality and perversion breaking off my family," Adriane Banks said. "I felt it."
The photo of the little boy grinning as he rips apart a book is one of the saddest things I've seen in quite a while.
From the reader comments:
quote: I was very impressed with the news in the Times. I have to say that I would never let my children read the Harry Potter books or anything to that nature. Pornography being burned as well! How rare, awesome and determined these ministers are to get the sickness out of their city!!! Supernatural powers of the holy are the only thing we enjoy these days. I strongly encourage all who are interested in this "new" approach to praising our Lord and tearing down the satan who has had his strongholds on us for years to attend or view Crawford's and others church homes for yourself just to see what really goes on.
quote: If you are a Christian, then burning Harry Potter books and porn won't offend you. Harry Potter, is based on magic. When people watch or read these things they actually open a door for Satan to come in. All he needs is a tiny entrance and he will continue to make that bigger so that he can try to find a way to rule in someones life. However, how you live your life on Earth will deteremine where you will spend that eternity. Do you want to spend eternity with God or without God? Hell is a real place and whether you can see it or not right now - Harry Potter books and movies is darkness.
These guys agree that books poison a society:

Pardon my sarcastic response, but I seem to be possessed by an old friend of mine tonight for some reason (and I have to admit that it's making me miss the bastard) lol.

You wouldn't know holy if it walked in the door, climbed on your chest and shat on you, my good man.

Indeed it is. It is otherwise known as Chillicothe. =]

I am not a small man. The only good a tiny entrance does me is give me a target for the sledge hammer. I actually prefer sliding glass double doors, thankyouverymuch.
--- In retrospect, lighting the match was my big mistake, but I was only trying to retrieve the gerbil...

I think it may have shifted to the northeast a bit... Somewhere between Chillicothe and Ne'rk.

Praise the Lord and pass the weenies? *sigh*
quote: The book burning and revival also marked the meeting of a diverse group of ministers, including Elliot McPhatter, of Total Deliverance Church, Young Doo Kim, of the Shreveport-Bossier Presbyterian Church, and John Valdez, of Bossier City Four Square Church.
Ol' Juan hand picked the books to be burned.

Re: Come One, Come All to Our Community Book Burning!
To burn the books you have to have done one of two things... bought them (supporting the author) or stolen them (hoooo sinnarrrr!)
Congratulations.
Also, the Narnia books seem pretty magical too. Why not burn those, especially since so many think they represent aspects of Christianity? Imagine, fantasy books being praised by Christians. Surely those are the REAL satan books, eh?
Meanwhile, just finally got book 6 of HP in paperback. Haven't read any of the dang things in so long. Glad it finally came out. Now maybe in 2 more years book 7 will hit paperback. lol They charge you an arm and a leg for hardcovers these days...

I don't mind. The book industry is really hurting these days. I figure with every hardback I buy, I'm supporting the chance that an unknown author just might get that book deal after all.

Re: Come One, Come All to Our Community Book Burning!
Somehow I doubt the author's the one who actually gets the profit from hardback versus paperback, but I dunno. *shrugs* All I know is when hardbacks cost 2-3 times as much, and I'm living on **** for money, paperback looks way better to me. heh
Yeah, sucks that the book industry is hurting. I wish parents would actually teach their kids crap doesn't have to be electronic to be enjoyable... but at the same time, when these kids who are used to electronic stilumation see that they can buy a movie for cheaper than they can buy a book.... sadly the mentality's just going to be perpetuated that way.
Quite frankly it's why I can't see why parents were so whiny about Harry Potter. Good god, finally it got some kids to want to READ again. Like, holy ****? And this is a BAD thing?
Oh wait, we want kids not to have imagination, I forgot. Because of course society makes progress by doing things the same forever and not having innovation.
And we wonder why our economy is starting to suck compared to other countries. (Even though somebofdy on the news the other day nearly made me spit my drink by saying all the other countries' economies are suffering just as bad - okay, you want to see what's happening? look at even the canadian dollar versus the american dollar just a couple years ago compared to today... uhhhh yeah. My cousin up there never fails to boast about that now when she comes to visit. lol)

Oh, no, I wasn't saying the author gets that money. I meant that the book company gets that money and might be a little more profitable which allows them to go out on a limb with new authors.
