Wong Kar Wei Film '2046

koalathebear,

I found your site for the Good Luck drama and then was able to move on with delight to the '2046' page. I am an admirer of Wong Kar Wei as a film maker.. and even more an admirer of Kimura san. I think he is an extremely underrated serious actor. He gets more praise and adulation because he is endowed with so much male aura...it comes right through the screen whether he is acting or being his usual SMAP member.
This film is fantastic. I am completely pulled in by the music. The choices made are compelling and the various treatments and placing in each scene are powerful. I don't know which version I have on DVD but I must watch again, not for the first time.... because I did not see some of the scenes you showed. I am talking of the Kimura scenes. It is obvious that there are cuts and that infuriates me. Do you know if there is a version available that is put out in its entirely??
I now wonder about the version I have of 'In the Mood for Love'. That was a superb film. The cinematography was impeccable.
I intend to re-visit your site again...so much to enjoy there. thanks

Peggy

Dear Peggy

So sorry about the delay in replying. I have just moved to Beijing for a year (midlife crisis) and only just managed to an internet connection again. Which scenes are you missing from 2046? I suspect the version you can buy in Hong Kong (default language Cantonese) is the most complete. The PRC version is censored - although that should not have affected the Kimura scenes ....

Dear koalathebear.

Well here is a long lost reply. ..I have been in the midst of an 'endlife almost crisis' Forgive me for not answering.
I am so interested that you are in Beijing. I watch the CCTV International show every day here in California. I think the programmes are so full and interesting. Get a lot more international news. China is a most fascinating country.
Lot of water under the bridge since '2046.' Now into drama 'Kareinaru Ichizoka' which I have not had the courage to open and watch yet. I have seen some of the Japanese version including the ending but not yet brave enough to tackle the English subbed version. Still trying to get the film 'Bushido Ichibun'. I am a great admirer of Kimura san.
I trust your 'crisis' has softened with time. Time usually can take care of most things. Takes patience of course. I expect my situation to be solved completely in another three months. That's what they tell me and I have total visulisation of perfection at the end.

Life is like a divine jigsaw puzzle isn't it? There are times when the most amazing incidents develop and later we look back and wonder how it all fell into place.

Hope to see you posting again.

Peggy
