 K-drama: 굳세어라 금순아 (Be Strong, Geum-soon) [MBCD Channel, disc. starts on p. 15]
This is the new MBC daily drama, that will be replacing King Flower Fairy when it ends in late March.
edit: MBCD is now carrying subtitles for this drama. EP 54 aired on 10/8/08. Disscussion for the airing of BSGS on MBCD starts on page 15.
The drama airs 7 days/week. 6:30AM and 9PM weekdays, and 4:30AM and 9PM on the weekends.
cast:
na geum soon (24) actress: han hye jin
she lost her parents at a young age and grew up in her grandma's bossom.
bright and clumsy at times, but growing up w/out parents has matured her early. though she's lonely and things are hard for her she does not wrap herself in depression...so she woudn't upset her grandma.
high-school graduate with beautician as her career goal. she aspires to make others happy through total beauty makeover. she has an 'accident' with college student jung-wan and marries at young age. due to the circumstance that forced them to get married, her mother in law does not receive her well. one day she gets the news that her husband has died... she faints...and when she awakes her mother in law tells her to leave. soon after geum-soon gives birth to her baby through a difficult labor, and from then on she decides to work hard to raise her child the way her grandma raised her.
now three years later...she delivers beverages for money...and meets jae-hee. knowing jae-hee is in good terms with a salon owner, geum-soon tries to look good infront of jaehee.

so jang's wife. mother of the 3 noh brother
noh shi wan (30) actor: kim yoo suk
mr. noh's eldest son. banker. as the oldest brother he tries to meet his parents high expectations and lives his best to be a good son...so he is annoyed by his younger brother tae-wan, who is always getting into trouble, but at the same time he's jealoused of his capacity to rebel against his parents. he always thought his family would be together
but at the death of his youngest brother he is thrown into a new reality. he coincidently meets his school mate sung-ran, who no longer remembers him, but she being his first love, he recognizes her at first sight and sets his eyes on her again.
noh tae wan (26) actor: lee min gi
the 2nd son. ' mirror prince'...with his above-average looks he is waiting to start his modeling career. meanwhile he is spending his days as an employed bum. due to his mother's weak body he grew up under the care of his grandma, and sandwiched between an acomplished older brother who was excelled in school, and a younger brother on his way to be a doctor, tae-wan has always been the under-achiever who is always looking for his father's approval, even if the only way he can get his attention is by getting into trouble.
he is starting to like geum-soon...and when she starts her salon business, he often comes to visit her.
noh jung wan actor: kim nam gil
na geum-soon's young husband. pure at heart and good natured. the youngest of the noh brothers. as a college student he went on a trip with geum-seum and inpregnated her...next he marries her...but he gets into a car accident and at the mistaken diagnosis of a young doctor he dies...
ha suh ran (32) actress: kim seo hyung
shi-wan's schoolmate from childhood days. divorced and her ex has the custody of their child.

This is a story of a young widow, Geum-Soon, who never becomes discouraged or blames other people - no matter what happens in her life. The viewers will get both hope and comfort by watching her do her best in everything she does.

Na, Geum-Soon (Acted by Han, Hye-Jin)
Her father died and her mother left when she was young. She was raised by her grandmother. She was a mature and thoughtful child. Even when she was lonely and sad, she pretended that everything was fine because she didn't want to worry her grandmother. Her dream is to become a hairdresser and then create a total beauty line like Vidal Sasson or Babilyss, with her name on it. However, she had to postpone her dream when she got pregnant and married Jeong-wan. Her husband was a college student and her parents were reluctant to have her as their daughter-in-law. One day, her husband died in an accident. She gave a birth to a boy after her husband died. She decided to raise her child by herself, just as her grandmother raised her.

She's Geum-Soon's cousin. She's always quiet and does what she's supposed to do. She went to college to become a teacher like her mother has always wanted, but she doesn't want to be a teacher at all. She secretly takes acting classes, and meanwhile pretends to be a perfect daughter at home. She likes Tae-Wan. In fact, she might want to be an actor just because she wants to be closer to him. Later, both her family and his find out about their relationship, and her mother closely watches her every move. Since she can't see Tae-wan any more, her feelings towards him get even stronger.
Goo, Jae-hee (Acted by Kang-, Ji-Hwan)
He's a good-looking and skilled surgeon. He seems to have it all. He's the nicest man to his patients, but to others he comes across as very arrogant. He's very competitive. Every time he runs into Geum-Soon, there is a problem. After feeling guilty about breaking Geum-Soon's scooter, he helps her get a job in a beauty shop. The more he gets to know Geum-Soon, the more he likes her. She's far from the type of woman he's been looking for, but he's slowly falling for her. However, after he learns that she's a widow with a child, he tries to keep his distance. Later, he realizes that he truly loves her just the way she is and decides to embrace her painful past.
Noh, Tae-Wan (Acted by Lee, Min-Ki)
He's very good-looking. He dreams of becoming a famous model one day. He never forgets to work out in the fitness club, and buys himself nice clothes even though he doesn't have money for food. He doesn't make any money for the moment. He doesn't mean to cause trouble in the family, but he always does. He's not sure if it's out of pity or love, but he cares for Geum-Soon. However, he just stands by her and quietly helps her out. He often visits Geum-Soon at her work, so some people think he's her boyfriend. Later, he falls for Eun-Ju who is the manager of the beauty shop where Geum-Soon is working. A beautiful woman with money like Eun-ju is his exact type.
I wonder how accurate this will turn out...

SandyP (purpletiger86) is translating selected scenes thus far from the series!
Her first translations was for the conversation scene b/w Geum-soon and Tae-hwan in and outside the car from ep 40...this scene had me in tears:

GS: You talk to me unmannerfully (?) too.
TH: You think i'm joking right now? Take care of yourself well. Why do you have those kind of people treat you like that?
GS: How can you say it like that. I tell him not to do it, but he keeps doing it. Like you. If I tell you not to talk to me like that, you still do it. Why don't you try to fix it first.
TH: And also...why didn't you tell him who i was? Perhaps...do you like that dude?
GS: What?
TH: Than why can't you tell him who i am?
GS: That is...because the people at the hair salon doesn't know that I'm a mother with a baby yet. That is why.
TH: That is what I mean. Why are you hiding it from everyone?
GS: It's because I don't want to get fired. Because of my age, i barely got into this job. I told my designer teacher, but she also said that i should not say anything for awhile.
TH: Are you sure? Is that all?
GS: Of course that's all...is there suppose to be more to it? What are you thinking right now?!?!
TH: Get in. Get in the front. I still have some things to say. Hurry and get it.
GS: I don't think i can sit there...because it reminds me of oppah [her husband]. Oppah left the world from sitting in that seat. I'll just sit in the back. That's okay, right? I know what you are thinking about right now...but you don't have to worry about it. I only think about ways in taking care of HweeSung [her son] very well. Not having a father, i really really have to take care of Hweesung really well. That's the only thing i think about. But how can i think about other things...i've never imagined it. GS: Right, of course. So than why would i think about other things. So don't worry about things that don't make any sense.
anyways, I'm requesting SandyP to go back and translate certain scenes from previous epis, so expect more to come in the future =)
