Re: K-dramas on DVD with ENG subs *updated 11/22/2005*
class blockquote Just finished my conversation with Simon Kim from KBS America who's the E-Commerce Manager. If you call KBS America e-store's customer service #, you'll likely be talking to Simon.
About the Revenge DVD set that KBS America e-store will be selling:
1. The DVD set will be 9 discs, 3 epis/disc, w/ the last disc being the extras.
2. Simon is not sure if it's the Director's Cut...he didn't even know that there was a Director's Cut for Sorry I Love You and Full House (but then again, those were the only versions available, as there was no "ordinary" version for those 2 sets, so that would make some sense as to us confusing him). [And it's odd for the set to be selling at the same price as Global Yesasia if it were a different version--my own opinion of course.] Simon is trying to find out for us now, as this is the first time he has heard of there being a Director's Cut for the drama.
3. It's going to be Region 1 (or even All Region is what I feel). Who knows when Yesasia and the other sites finally release it, it might end up being Region 1 or All Region as well, since every previous English subbed DVD set released from Bitwin for KBS has been All Region.
4. Simon tells me that the DVD set will be at KBS America on Dec 22nd (and Wedding as well), however, that might change, depending on those he is in contact with in Korea. That is why KBS America e-store tells customers to contact them for more information.
I suggest those living in the US give Simon a call. Since, I'm sure every one of us wants the Director's Cut and not some other version, when making the call, stress the importance of you, as the customer wanting the Director's Cut. If possible, even point out that Global Yesasia has the Director's Cut version on preorder and mention that KBS has released 2 other Director's Cut DVD sets and tell him he can find more info on this Director's Cut at Global Yesasia.
Suggest to Simon, that when the Revenge/Resurrection DVD set arrives to have the set opened and detailed pictures taken and posted at their site so that comparisons can be made w/ the one selling at Global Yesasia/other Korean sites. This will help confirm whether the set is the Director's Cut. In other words, if it is the same, KBS America e-store is basically selling the same set as anywhere else, and we might as well be getting it from the KBS America e-store.
Also ask him for his email address.
KBS America e-store #: 1-866-KBS-9901 9AM-6PM M-Fupdate!!!
Simon just contacted me and here's the latest news: KBS America will be selling the Director's Cut for Revenge/Resurrection! But he also tells me to hold off from preordering just yet...so let's just be patient for the 22nd of December to roll on up.

Prince's First Love
Does anyone know if there's a DVD set with english subtitles for Prince's First Love - First Love of the Prince? I checked YesAsia and they only have a no subtitle version.
Thank you.

Re: K-dramas on DVD with ENG subs *updated 12/20/2005*
I went ahead and order Prince's First Love from a company listed through a search on Amazon. The DVDs came from Hong Kong. The packaging is nice and the picture quality is great but I cannot even begin to tell you how horrible the subs are. I can tell you that my subtitle was listed as "average" English and not "excellent" , but they did have quite a few listed as excellent . I wondered if there would have been noticeable difference I seriously think they could have done better running it through Bablefish. I watched the first five minutes and they even used the "f" word which I'm certain wasn't a correct translation given the scene. The mother called someone a smelly wench ! LOLOL Am I angry? No, but disappointed. I knew the potential was there. All 8 videos were only $18 although the website does insist they do not sell bootleg copies AND since I was not able to find this series elsewhere, I ordered. I am going to enjoy them anyway by turning off the subtitles; enjoying the scenery and maybe picking up a word or two of Korean along the way. If I knew I wouldn't get the site in trouble by naming names, I would let you in on who it was. You can always PM me if you want to know who I received this from.

K-dramas on DVD with ENG subs *updated 12/20/2005*
You guys...if you intend to get the Director's Cut DVD set for Resurrection, DO NOT order from KBS-America. What they're sending you will be the 8-disc version. Besides the KBS-America logo on the set, there is the KDT America logo. It is however, ALL Region.
I did not open the plastic, that would make it impossible for me to return the set altogether.
I'm very sure they won't have the cut scenes or any extras, just because 3 epis/disc = 24 epis for the KBS America/KDT America 8 disc version. And if you guys are even more interested as to the packaging of this 8 disc DVD set, let me describe it:
A thin glossy paperbox encases 8 thin dvd cases--that was the giveaway that this was not the version I wanted, besides that the set lists 8 discs. It's not "digipack" like w/ the previous KBS drama releases that were manufactured from Korea. If you don't care to have the extras (and maybe even uncut scenes which is on the director's cut), then this would be the set for you to get.
Better watch out on the Wedding DVD set from KBS America as well...it could be the same one listed as DVDasian which is only 6 discs instead of 7. Also be aware of those out of stock items from KBS America...when it becomes available, it just might be the American manufactured and not the Korean manufactured. At least the Vol 3 Emperor of the Sea I bought along w/ the order was the same one that was released in Korea as well (until of course it is out of stock).
From now on, I think I'll be sticking to buying from dvdfromkorea, dvdheaven.
I've called Simon, and he's issued me my RA#, I'll be returning/shipping it to them tomorrow.
