Re: K-dramas on DVD with ENG subs *updated 12/11/08*

Rightstuf.com is currenly having at 35% off the retail price of all DVDs and boxsets from YA Entertainment.

Coupon Code: menu
Expires: December 23, 2008 at 11:59 p.m. CST

REMEMBER: If you’re a Got Anime member, you can stack your discounts for even more savings! (This means you have the potential to save up to 41% OFF the MSRP on all titles from YA Entertainment. Check out www.gotanime.com for details.)

note: you will see the corrected price when you go to check out and input in the coupon code, otherwise the price is what you see listed on the page of the item

for example, the retail price of I Really Really Like You Vol. 1 or 2, is $69.99. With the coupon, the price is now $45.49 ($24.50 off of Yesasia's price), and if you are a member of Got Anime, the price would then just be $40.95.

The Grand Chef Vol. 1 or 2, King and I Vol. 1, 2, or 3 is only priced at $58.49, a savings of $11.50 from Yesasia's price; more savings if you are a Got Anime member.

This coupon code also applies to pre-orders, such as for YA's boxset for SBS' I Love You with Ahn Jae Wook (price is $58.49 with coupon, again a $11.50 savings from Yesasia's price)

Other YA boxsets whose prices are lower than Yesasia's prices due to use of the coupon include:

Be Strong Geum-soon [any volume] ($38.99, $26 lower than Yesasia's price...a $84.03 savings if all volumes are purchased as compared to Yesasia's price for the complete series set)

Jumong [any volume] ($45.49, $24.50 savings from Yesasia's)

My Girl, Country Princess, Palace, The Snow Queen, Spring Waltz, Inside the White Tower (savings of $8 from Yesasia's price)

One Fine Day, What Planet Are You From?, Delicious Proposal ($18 savings from Yesasia's price)

Hotelier ($38.99, a $31savings from Yesasia's price)

Sweet Spy ($23 savings from Yesasia's price)

Super Rookie ($29.50 savings from Yesasia's price)

surprisingly, even Coffee Prince ($64.99, $30 savings from Yesasia's price) and Yi San [any volume] ($64.99, $20 savings from Yesasia's price)] are eligible for this coupon offer

You might want to compare prices of the other boxsets I haven't listed in this post.

Re: K-dramas on DVD with ENG subs *updated 12/11/08*

I found the "Women in the Sun" DVD set with English subs on Ebay emoticon

It's $20 & FREE shipping, from Hong Kong emoticon Now, I did get "Dalja's Spring" & "Time Between Dog and Wolf" through Ebay...different person...and was warned that the English subs would turn into a kind of broken jibberish toward the end, but still brought them. No such warning on this drama set & it's cheaper than anywhere else I could get it & this might be the only chance to get it...since no other shop has it or claims to be getting it, anytime soon.

The seller has a solid 97.4% favorable rating & over 150 reviews!! I REALLY want this drama but sort of wondering if I should "pull the trigger" emoticon

Thoughts??

K-dramas on DVD with ENG subs *updated 12/11/08*

lex09...there's a Dalja's Spring e-subbed DVD set from HK (distributor Kam and Ronson), I wonder if you know about how the set is like (quality of subs, whether scenes has been cut out): http://www.hkflix.com/xq/asp/filmID.549352/qx/details.htm

creidesca...I'm not sure about that distributor, I got my copy from ebay & it appeared to have all the scenes & the quality was fine...except for the English subs, which became very difficult to follow around the 12-14 episodes (I don't remember exactly, as it's been a while since I've seen the set)!!

Nevertheless, my only "priority" right now is "Women in the Sun," since I loved that drama & really want the DVD set!!

Re: K-dramas on DVD with ENG subs *updated 12/11/08*

Re Kam and Ronson (K&R) distributors out of Hong Kong...

I have purchased two different dramas from Kam and Ronson, one Japanese and one K-drama. Both have very good e-subs. There's a minor flub occasionally, but then I find that to be true even on the best of e-subbing from YA Entertainment, MBC, KBS, and SBS.

For my very favorite dramas, if they don't become available through the official Korean production companies, my second choice is Kam and Ronson. They seem to have some sort of licensing agreement with Japan and Korea, so their product isn't exactly cheap. I've been burned by the cheapos, too. Once, I bought what I thought was an unpirated copy from Amazon.com (at full price). The e-subs were so bad, it was unintelligible. It was actually funny. But I only laughed because it wasn't a drama that was important to me, like "Women in the Sun" is important to you, Lex.

Oh, and the K&R dvd sets I bought also had all the extras included, most of those features e-subbed, too. Anyway, can't guarantee anything but this has been my limited experience so far with the K&R distributor.

K-dramas on DVD with ENG subs *updated 12/11/08*

thanks, nchristi! The only worry right now that I have about the K&R set would be whether any of the episodes might have been edited, since when Dalja's Spring originally aired in HK (on the HK station ATV/HKATV) scenes were cut.

Re: K-dramas on DVD with ENG subs *updated 1/07/09*

Thanks, nchristi...I'll have to check into K&R, though I'm still thinking about getting "Women in the Sun" through ebay!! It's only $20 & no mention of any English sub problems!!

creidesca...I still have the "Dalja's Spring" set, the one with the messed up English subs, but don't believe there were any deleted scenes!! Looked complete to me!

lex07...That copy of Women in the Sun that you're interested in has typos and incorrect grammar and rated 7 if 10 is best. Another US ebay seller described the subs as this. Someone else said it's understandable.

Be wary when the dramas are cheap. Sometimes you can get lucky but most times not.
