Re: K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)
Good Morning Beautiful Days Family
Okay, I have a couple of things to comment on. I watched episodes one and two and they moved along in time, pretty quickly. I guess that's a good thing.
So it was all over an award? Seems that it was important enough to fix the outcome and discredit the singer who should have won. But to kill the guy? Okay, it was an accident, but I think that was the beginning of the killer's success, so there was little or no remorse and zero accountability. He got everything fom that one deed. The wife, the company and the son. So I guess he really benefited from his actions. What a creep.
There are lots of familiar faces here. It took me till this watch to realize that the father is being portrayed by an actor who usually plays the nice guy. Its a real transformation. I can't for the life of me think of his name. They made him really ugly. He's very good at being the bad guy. Go figure!
The first episode, though brutal, set the stage for all that's coming. Seems to me, at least, that the cause for all of the grief in that family, Min Chul's, Min Ji's and even Sun Jae's and his mother's can be placed right at the feet of the father.
Can anyone give me a clue as to why that woman would accept that jackass as her husband and her son's father? It beats me, except for the fact that in the first scene we see him being a little too interested in her even though she's supposed to be a friends wife. Some friend. But, maybe she was his first love and he lost her to the other guy. I don't know.
I think Min Chul had to give up being a boy long ago to protect his sister. She's been damaged by the death of her mother and a stepmother, believed to be the father's mistress, moving in to their home. As the grandmother said, "While the body's still warm". Then to be told that Sun Jae is their father's son by that woman is too much for her. Min Chul has taken it upon himself to watch over her, even though he's in as much pain as she is. Their father shows no real warmth or understanding to either of them.
Yon Soo and Sena have problems of their own. Yon Soo has the same role in Sena's life as Min Chul has in Min Ji's. They're both trying their best to fix those broken sparrows. He his sister, she her sister.
A lot went on in the first two episodes, but I'm going to give somebody else a chance now. I can go on and on.
This looks really good and I'm going to enjoy it. Its not too bad to see Min Chul as a grown up. Especially since its Lee Byung Hun playing him. But how rude was he to Yon Soo when he dragged her into the van to make beleve she was the celebrity girl and then tell her to get out, that he was done with her. So obnoxious!! He made me not like him and I always like him. He is hot though. I'm just saying........
Okay, I'm really going now, though I have plenty more to say.
Just in case you missed it. Somebody else jump in anytime.

K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)
Good Morning BD,
It's kinda hard to begin the first episode because there is so much going on, the introducing of the characters and story line.
I watched the first episode last night and the very last scene they began playing that "excited chase music" which I just love and I immediately wanted to go on to episode two, but didn't.
It begins in 1975 with a popular singer named Mimi who was in a best singer award contest. It seemed like a sure bet for her winning, but she lost much to the shock of some of the on lookers.
Back in an office, Mi Mi is besides herself with sadness and tears for losing. At the same moment the police enter and put her under arrest for drug procession, they did a search in her house and recovered drugs.
She's taken away in shock.
Lee Young Jun who is Mi Mi's manager? and is married to the very pregnant Myung Ja, (our own Jongnam's mom by the way,) confronts his competition in his office, Lee Sung Chun, whose singer won the competition.
Did I lose you yet??
Young Jun argues with Sung Chun and accuses him of framing Mi Mi with the drugs. A fight begins and in the scuffle, with Young Jun getting the upper hand, Sung Chun reaches over and grabs a trophy and smashes him in the head, killing him.
Later, we see Myung Ja has just given birth to a baby boy that before his death, her husband named Sun-jae.
Her's deceased husband's competitor Sun Chun comes into the delivery room to see the baby and holds him, and declares to the nurses that he is Myung Ja's guardian.
Ten years later we see Myung Ja with young Sun-jae and all their belongings standing in front of the home of Sun Chun. They have married I suppose.
Peering out the door are Sun Chun's two kids, Min-chul and Min-ji.
These two kids are not happy. When their grandma comes storming over at that exact moment and pushes Myung Ja around, and accuses her of sleeping with Sung Chun while his sick wife was still alive, the children are listening to this.
And then grandma accuses the boy, Sun-jae of being Sun Chun's child.
At some point, I believe Sung Chun deceives Myung Ja to sell her deceased husband's record company to him, and this is how Victory Records is formed.
One night, Min-chul is in his pj's crying while holding his dead mother's picture.
When Myung Ja comes in, and by the way, she is a very nice, gentle mother but the cards are stacked against her here, little Min-chul starts screaming at her to get out.
His dad hears and comes storming into the room and slaps the boy hard across the face.
Min-chul asks through tears if what grandma said was true, that Sun-jae was his real son.
His dad lies to him and says yes. This answer I believe, sets the stage for the deep hatred of their father and step brother by Min-chul and Min-ji.
Christmas comes and Sung Chun takes young Sun-jae to an orphanage to see the children and tells him to help the children if he can.
They arrive in a limo, this rich family and are promised that some singers will be arriving shortly.
The children stare at little Sun-jae's shoes, and off they go, chasing him down the hallways.
He ducks inside a room where there are two young girls with a birthday cake singing.
There is Sena, the little one and yon-soo the older one. They have declared themselves sisters and gave themselves a birthday, on Christmas Day.
Sun-jae goes next to them and they talk a bit. Yon-soo gives her little sister a large drawing she drew of them with angels watching over them always.
Little sis wants no part of it, she wants dolls or a watch I think she said.
Sun-jae offers up his watch to her and she grabs it and runs out. Yon-soo doesn't like the idea of freebies, so Sun-jae asks for her drawing.
After some thought, she gives it to him...
Anyone??

Re: K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)
Anyeong Hasaeyo! What a Beautiful Day
It started at the "Award Night" for best singer. It's like our Emmy here in the US except that theirs is for best singers and music producers. Apparently, there were two major contenders in the best singer category and music production company. One is Yang Mimi who was a protegee of Lee Jung Yun and the other is Tina Jung handled by Park Sung Chul. It was a cooked up contest because Tina Jung won even though it was already expected that Yang Mimi, who was very popular and predicted to win, did not. So when the winner was announced at the award night, there was chaos and people were surprised. It devastated the singer Yang Mimi while Park Sung Chul celebrated. The result angered Lee Jung Yun because, aside from losing, Yang Mimi was accused as a marijuana junkie and was brought to the police station for questioning. Lee Jung Yun went to Park Chung Sul's office that night and they argued and fought. While they were fighting, Park Sung Chul grabbed the "award cup" (probably made out of hard metal) and hit Lee Jung Yun in the head causing him to lost consciousness. Park Sung Chul's bodyguard witnessed all of these and he was told to dispose of the body. If the body was not disposed, Park Sung Chul could have claimed that it was self-defense because he was being choked when he grabbed that "cup". Anyway, this evil deed started the life of Sunjae who was born right after his father's death. So we are told that Sunjae is not the real son of Park Sung Chul from the beginning. The first time I watched this, I thought that he was a love child of Park Sung Chul and the wife of Lee Jung Yun. In the first scenario. it was implied that the wife and Sung Chul seemed to know it's other and were very familiar because she called him "oppa".
This event occurred in 1975, and fast-forwarded to 1985. Park Sung Chul and a ten-year old Sunjae visited an orphanage which happened to be where Yoon-su and Sena's home. The meeting of Yoon-su, Sena and Sunjae started the triangle relationship. It was very memorable to each of them because at this time, the burning accident happen between Yoon-su and Sena (Sena got burned with hot tea when she bumped into Yoon-su and left a big scar on her shoulder) Again, this accident determined the fate of Yoon-su, Sena and Sunjae.
I could go on and on and tell the whole story but I want to read your input first. I couldn't wait until that first meeting of Minchul and Yoon-su but let's hold our horses, Smoochie, and wait for the others. Right now, you hate Minchul's behavior but that is Lee Byunghun and I love his way of portraying his character Minchul. Choi Ji Woo is perfect as Yoon-su although she always reminds me of her character in Winter Sonata.

Re: K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)
Good Morning Again,
Thanks for the summary, Jasy. Now go Ice your hand. You did a great job. My post was all over the place, assuming that anyone would know what I meant. Of course not!! I was so excited that I couldn't find the direction I wanted to go in.
I wasn't sure I was going to be able to get into it, but of course I am into it. The cast is great and of course the veterans carry the day, but we have some fine actors in this one, all around.
Hantaejun, I love CJW in this too. I bought Truth, but haven't seen it yet. Its on my list of way too many dramas. I do have about 10 dramas and movies combined with her in them. She's done a couple with LBH and they're a very good combination. Stick around with us.
I don't like her sister's character either. She's a loose wheel even as a child. Her best friend, from the first time I saw this, reminded me of my best friend. Mine is gone now, so its touching to see the caring and loyalty between these two women. It always gets me how women are, with each other.
I'm going to watch two again tonight. I watched It, but while I was busy. I need the full impact.
LBH starts out so arrogant in this and it takes a long time before he softens up. The only witness to his nicer side is his sister. He has a take charge attitude and its very effective in business, but so far he doesn't seem to have much of a social life. He really is kind of a sad guy.
Gotta go.

K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)
LOl smoochie. How did you know I had to ice my hand when I was done with that?? Now I'm back to one hand again...
I can't help it, I actually like LBH's character right from the beginning. He's carrying the world on his shoulders, and his little sister is the most important thing to him. But he's wise in many ways.
Geez he looks good here doesn't he? I loved how he dragged CJW out of the building, she never knew what hit her. LOL Loved it!!
Then he dumped her out of the car as fast as he pulled her in. Didn't like that, she looked stunned.'
But really now, doesn't he look cool? LOL Here we go again...
I just love Narae, her friend, I saw her in a few other things and I think she's just great. Here she plays a wonderful, loyal friend, so caring of her friend.
Sun-jae is really an innocent in all this and at times I feel sorry for him. He wants his big brother to like him...
LBH and CJW together...this is going to be real good, but then we already know that.
Ok, I'm going but I'll be back.

Once you get past the "death spiral" first three episodes, the drama continues in a typical KDrama style. Just when you get settled on the pacing, the story concludes in a whirlwind of frenzied activity in the last two episodes (when have we seen this before, lol). It's a bit dated (i.e. "beepers"), but shows CJWs emerging style which she uses in future performances. Sorry, I'll stop now, back to Beautiful Days discussion....sorry...

Re: K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)
Hi again
Jasy, you know that he's my favorite. I find that he's an actor who's not afraid to take chances in his choice of roles, which gives him credibility as an actor. I love his confidence and his attitude and though I love his looks, he's not a pretty boy. He's a man to be reckoned with. He especially plays the sexy, bad boy better than anyone, in my opinion. He's also a man's man. He really is at the top of my list, as far as actors go.
But, yeah he does look cool. I do like the way he takes charge and its so funny how she's speechless. I didn't like how he dismissed her though.
This is going to be very good.
Hantaejun, I'm looking forward to seeing it, because I really like her as an actress. When I buy dramas or movies, I buy by actors. I try to get everything I can get my hands on by that particular person and Choi Ji Woo is one of them. Believe it or not, I haven't seen Winter Sonata. I will though. Lee Byun Hun is another actor that I'll buy anything I see with him in it. Right now I have quite a collection. There are others, but the list is endless.
I can see this one is going to be fun to watch together.

Re: K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)
I just took a walk around my neighborhood and when I came back you guys have posted a lot already.
Jasy: Good summarization. When I posted I didn't see yours but you did a good job, so detailed.
Speaking of LBH (Lee Byunghun), I also bought his "All In" and a movie called "Everybody Has Secrets" (CJW is on this too). I have seen him in a few other k-dramas and movies thru rentals. But I love him most in "All In" wth Song Hye Gyo. Like you all said, he is excellent in doing "bad guy" leading man and as a gangster-hero in All In, he was a perfect fit..
CJW, however, is a fountain of tears. In every scenario that they focus on her face, my tears started rolling down my cheeks even if she has not started crying. If she bawled, I do too. This will be hard on my eyes. Before the series is over, my tear reservoir will be empty and I will have dry eyes. LOL!!!!!!!! I think I consumed a dozen boxes (extra large) of tissues the first time I watched this.
Ryu Jiwon (Sunjae) is excellent in this role. His boyish features and his meek demeanor makes him so adorable but still, he is not a match for CJW's character. He looks like a younger brother beside her.
Ooops!!!!!!! I'm getting ahead of myself again. Really, it's hard to hold these horses.
Logging out............ reluctantly!
