Re: K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)
Hello BD Family
Nsheldon, you may be right Min Chul may be conceited, but he's not really cold at all, though he seems that way. He gave up any feeling for anyone in his home, except for Min Ji, since the day he asked his father if Sun Jae was really his son and his father answered "yes". He seems to be liked by his staff and he's always polite and courteous to everyone he meets. He and Yon Soo had an almost instant connection, although he enjoys playing with her. There's nobody else in his life.
Sun Jae, on the other hand, has sort of begun a relationship with Sena. How can he think its alright for him to pursue Yon Soo?? She thinks she's his girlfriend. If Sena thinks Yon Soo is the betrayer now, how's that going to wash. Plus Yon Soo, although being nice to Sun Jae, already has feelings for Min Chul and not his kid brother. This guy is out of line.
Sun Jae can thank his mother for his misery and in fact he does. The people we're watching now as adults, were all kids when this mess was set in motion. When he moved into their home as the bastard son of the mistress, that sort of set his future with his siblings in stone. Min Shul and Min Ji watched their mother get sick and die. It was no time at all when Sun Jae and his mother moved in. Its not Sun Jae's fault anymore than its his sibling"s. They can blame the adults for such a bad decision. His mother could have done better at looking out for him. I don't know what she was thinking.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Also, Sunjae has had to watch his entire life while his beloved mother has been treated like crap by his ‘brother and sister’.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is true Nsheldon, but he also gets why she's treated that way. He tells her so in the tent bar. He said everything I'd have said. She was a very foolish woman and why she'd let those kids believe that their father was cheating on their mother with her and created Sun Jae, I'll never get.
That was the defining moment for all of them. He may have been better accepted as her son, without the father being involved. This way he didn't stand a chance.
I feel sorry for him, but not his mother, who I think is a doormat. I feel just as sorry for Min Chul and Min Ji. Their lives were totally screwed up by this issue too. These two people invaded their and their mother's home and took over.
One more thing and then I have to work again. We may be led to believe that the father favors Sun Jae, but blood is blood. When it comes to the family business its Min Chul all the way. That says something about who he favors. Acting the way he does with Sun Jae may alleviate some of his guilt, for what he did to his real father.
Nsheldon, you can be on Sun Jae's side. You should be used to it. Remember this?
I have to work now. I'll be back.

K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)
Good Morning BD,
At this point Minchul would never expect that Sunjae would be his competition for Yonsoo. Pecking order means a lot in the household and when he brought Yonsoo in, he even made a remark to her in Minji's room that she shouldn't be so formal, Sunjae is younger than her. Probably never in his wildest dreams would he see his brother as a rival.
But then, those thoughts of mine are way ahead of the here and now. Sunjae may not be thinking along those lines either but since he knows he doesn't like Sena, well, you never know what can happen with his thoughts about Yonsoo. Right now he's angry with her wondering why she's concerned about tutoring Minji when her own sister is in a mess.
Narae takes Sena home and lays it out to her, she'll give her free room and board, free food, all the little perks. Sena in return has to get strong and to practice her singing.
Narae tells her that she knows she wants to be a top singer and informs her that she, Narae wants to be a top manager. Sena is thinking the deal doesn't sound too bad, living for free at Narae's and says she'll leave when she gets money.
Nara tells her she'll only leave when she becomes a top manager. And that's that...
This is all going together so nicely, there's a plan for everyone.
Back at the big house, early morn, Myungja informs Sunjae to come home early from work, she will have a memorial service for Minchul and Minji's mom. Yonsoo overhears. Sounds simple enough but we know nothing is simple in this house.
Myungja must do this every year and I don't think she's appreciated for doing it. This woman is living in a hell of her own.
At Victory I think it's Sunchun who tells Minchul there will be a record company association anniversary party tonight. Tonight of all nights. Minchul is surprised and shocked.
Dad also tells him that Dael's chairman Kim's daughter will be there. Blind date? Minchul is mad.
And has Sunchun forgotten it's the 15th anniversary of his diseased wife's death? Looks like it or else he just doesn't care.
After work Minchul rings Yonsoo and tells her to meet him outside. Once she meets him, he pulls her into his car without telling her where he's taking her. Sound familiar?
They arrive at a fancy department store and he goes about quite quickly fixing his "date" up for the party. New dress, shoes, a total makeover. LOL Yonsoo never knows what hit her.
I have to say though she looked quite lovely, she also looked babyish to me dressed like this. What was Minchul thinking?? Or is it me???
It's probably me but that hair ribbon could have been omitted and those shoes could have been a bit more simple and classy.
Yonsoo doesn't know what the heck is going on and Minchul tells her simply that he needs her.
He chooses a necklace for her and puts it on her standing directly in front of her face as those hands of his clasp it in the back. He's not playing here though, he's got serious business to do and she's a major part of it.
Once at the party, his father is taken aback that he's brought a date. Minchul wants to know why Sunchun is so surprised since he always brought dates.
We know that this time, Sunchun wanted to set him up with chairman Kim's daughter. It's a no go for dad.
Instead of sitting down to eat, Yonsoo is off looking at paintings on the wall in another section. Minchul finds her and wants to know why she's not eating. She can't eat now, she'll get sick and she tells him how this one particular painting makes her think that she's the child in the painting and that it's by her favorite artist.
With those words, Minchul wisks her off again and they end up in the art gallery. There she sees original paintings she may have only dreamed about. She's very happy as they look around and talk.
Minchul tells her that today is his mother's anniversary death and he's feeling sad, angry and fearful. Is a closeness brewing here? I think so.
Meantime, Myungja is waiting with her carefully planned memorial service.
I was thinking about how in this drama, it's filled with misunderstandings and lies from the very beginning of the killing of Sunjae's bio dad. So many omissions are left unsaid that always lead to untruths or lies in the end.
Just like you said smoochie, Yonsoo never tells Sena why she didn't meet her that day, that she got hit by a car. Sunchun lies to Sunjae about who his bio dad is and Myungja lives the lie.
Yonsoo lies by omission when Sena gets the job at Victory. Minchul gives her the job all due to a payback deal to Yonsoo. Sunjae's omission that he's Zero to Sena or anyone else for that matter. Where will this all lead to?
But it's all keeping us glued to our seats.
I don't see Minchul as a cold person at all. He has a problem with his family only but that was long in the making, since he was a child.
He's sure of himself and he's very much in charge and tough in his everyday life which could make it seem like he's conceited. I don't see him as conceited though.
He's his own man and does things at the spur of the moment. He doesn't hesitate about anything. He's got the smarts for running the business and knows what young people like in music. He's trying to keep the company up to date and at the top because he knows there's competition out there.
He began playing with Yonsoo because he was sure she had a crush on him. She was always starring at him. If he liked her from the get go, I'd think he's ask her out on a date. But he never did. He just played along with the vibes she sent out to him and was having fun.
Now that she's at his house to tutor Minji, now that they have a business deal going, I'll bet his teasing of Yonsoo stops. No?
He seems to always be one step ahead of his father, example is bringing Yonsoo as his date. He simply leaves the party because he wants to. He doesn't owe anybody nothing. He's really a very smart man. I like this in him.
Anway, nsheldon, I also feel sorry for Sunjae but just where it comes to him dealing with his brother. He wants so much to have some kind of relationship with him but the dad ruined that on the first day Sunjay and his mother moved in.
Other than that, Sunjae can take care of himself. He's no dummy. I feel more sorry for Minji.
Minchul can take care of himself but like he said about his mother to Yonsoo, he feels sad, angry and fearful. So this big tough guy has feelings too, and he's hurting. His family made him what he is.
Love the pictures smoochie. LOL

Re: K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)
Anyeong Hasaeyo! Good morning BDF
I love Minchul, but his Tarzan attitude dragging Yonsoo to a party without explaining why but only saying "because I need you" is not cool at all. However, I like that scene when he saw Yonsoo all made up and dressed elegantly, he was floored. He probably didn't imagine how beautiful she really is. Jasy, I think the ribbon on her hair was added for the "innocent look", a little bit "rustic" compared to the sophisticated look of Daeil's Chairman's daughter. For a moment, when he stared at her, I think he forgot his purpose. Yonsoo is like an angel mesmerizing him. When he put the pearl necklace on her, I wonder what each of them was feeling, so close together. Didn't they feel their hearts' pumping a mile a minute? (mine was) or their body temperature heated up the whole room? (I was sweating)
Yonsoo was used by Minchul to get back on his father, but how did Yonsoo feel about that? At the end of the night, she was only too happy at the gallery, seeing all the paintings of her favorite artist.
Oh, when Minchul was walking the stairs from that open balcony to go downstairs to Yonsoo, did you all notice that he looks like in a commercial shoot moving so slowly, one hand in one pocket, his attire so perfect? This is my favorite image of him. Awwwwwwwwww!
The dialogue between mother and son (Myungja and Sunjae) at the tent bar was impressive. Sunjae blaming his mom is so convincing, I have to take his side. By the way, as I copied verbatim the dialogue on Episode 5, I was convinced that the scriptwriter (or maybe the translator) did an excellent job.

Emceema, oh I noticed Minchul walking down that stairway to Yonsoo alright. One hand in the pocket, so sleek and suave. Perfecto! LOL
I don't know if I'll find anything wrong with this guy...just kidding. He's got it going on doesn't he? And for him, he's taken aback by the beauty of Yonsoo. Looks like a match made in heaven.

Hello BD Family
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------When he put the pearl necklace on her, I wonder what each of them was feeling, so close together. Didn't they feel their hearts' pumping a mile a minute? (mine was) or their body temperature heated up the whole room? (I was sweating)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Emceema, you're one dirty old lady!! Okay, one of three dirty old ladies, or maybe more. Lurkers, what do you think?? Any other dirty old ladies out there?? I'll bet there are!!
Jasy, you love that hand in thepocket thing, huh? I'm with you, there's not much wrong with this guy, in my book anyway.
It surprised me that once in the store Yon Soo protested and told Min Chul something about being brought there without explanation. I didn't think she was ever going to speak up. He tells her she's there because he needs her. I love that. But, I'm a sucker for that sort of thing.
I like that when they got to the party he couldn't care less what his father thought. Also found it surprising that his father doesn't really go against him. He told him that he's not prepared to take a woman's life in his care and his father just accepted that. Ms. Kim didn't look all that happy and neither did her daddy.
I don't totally agree about this scenario; Jasy said:
He began playing with Yonsoo because he was sure she had a crush on him. She was always starring at him. If he liked her from the get go, I'd think he's ask her out on a date. But he never did. He just played along with the vibes she sent out to him and was having fun.
I don't see him as the kind of guy who would waste time playing with a girl's feelings. I do believe he thought she had a crush on him, a misunderstanding, and was flattered by it. Yon Soo's not chopped liver either. He started off teasing her a little and then got interested in her. I don't think he's still playing, I do think he's flirting and I think there's an understanding without a word being said yet.
My feeling on this is that there are many, many women who have a crush on Min Chul and yet he chooses to play that game with Yon Soo. For that matter he could've played with the store manager. if playing was all he wanted to do. He was always the one who sought her company, not the other way around , except for the one time when she asked fpr a favor for Sena.
I don't think he's sorted his feelings out for her yet, but I believe there's a strong connection. First of all he trusts her considerably and he likes her enough to open up his home to her and parade his nutty family in front of her. I can't see him doing that with just anybody. I'd think he'd keep them locked up in the attic. He's very comfortable with her and doesn't expect her to be judgemental.
I agree that he's not either cold or conceited. He's confident and self assured and tough. He is able to think on his feet and make a snap decision. He's charasmatic and charming. he's in charge and likes being in charge. He's well mannered and polite. Even in dealing with his stepmother, although cool, he's never rude.
If you look closely you'll see those shoes that Yon Soo had on were Gucci. They could've been prettier, even if they were flats. Yon Soo can't wear heels, because Min Chul is just a drop taller than she is. Ji Woo is pretty tall and LBH is only medium height, not like some of the actors we're used to seeing who tower over everyone else. I don't mind, because LBH looks really, really tall when he stands on his sexy, hot, good looks.
You know what's coming, right?
A bonus, because you've been so good.
Gotta go. Work calls.

Re: K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)
Good Morning BD Family
I wanted to comment on this scene, because I think it does a lot to explain the family dynamic here. Obviously Myungja does this memorial service every year for Min Chul and Min Ji's mother. While we know (and I sometimes forget) that she did nothing to hurt their mother, these two see her as the other woman. If I believed, what they believe, that this woman was their father's mistress during their mother's lifetime, I wouldn't find it respectful of her to do it either. WE know that's not true, but these kids are living with the truth told to them by their father and without Myungja disputing it. I think she should have dispensed with this service a long time ago. Their father, who should have arranged this, was at a party. Her doing this, though with the best of intentions, is a bitter reminder to MinChul and Min Ji of who she is to them. I have to say I wouldn't like her doing it either.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At Minchul's house, Myungja and Sunjae were preparing the memorial table. Minji came in looking disgusted.
MInji: Again? I told you not to set up a service for my mom.
Myungja: Go get changed.
Minji picked up a bowl where Sunjae was quietly peeling an apple.
Sunjae: Give it to me!
Minji: Are you kidding me?
Sunjae: Give me.
Minji: Don't be a hypocrite. Who's my mom to you that you'd respect her memorial day? Don't put on a how. Don't be silly. (throws the bowl in Myungja's direction. She cringed. Minji picked up her mom's picture and turned the table over, pushed Myungja aside and stormed upstairs).
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sun Jae of course worrying about his mother's feelings, tells her to stop doing this, that nobody appreciates it. He's angry for her bad treatment, but then he's in the same place as the rest of them. He sees the lie as reality too. He's the son of his father's mistress.
Terrible what they did to all three of these kids. When Sun Jae and his mother are at a tent bar he tells her how he feels. I don't know if this is the first time he's spoken so plainly to her about it, but right here he lays it all out for her. How he understands why she's treated so badly by his two siblings. He's upset with her for falling in love with a married man and having him. None of this is true, but this is what he knows. He tells her he was happier without a father and she doesn't smile anymore. She doesn't try to defend herself to him. This woman made a deal with the devil and I still don't get why.
I agree with you Jasy when you say Sun Jae is not that sad a figure here. Aside from his relationship with his siblings, from non-existent to bad, he lives a lfe of his own..Though he's been threatened by his father, he continues to make his music and is even becoming a cult figure. I think this is what saves the day for him. He hasn't given up his dream. Seems that he and Min Chul can survive this family, because they have lives separate from the ugliness of their home. MIn Ji is the only one struggling with her life, because she doesn't really have one. Enter Yon Soo, who's expected to fix that.
I have to go to work now.
I'll be back.
