K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)
Good Morning,
Kumsuk has a new stage name, Miho. She and Sena were both to appear on TV for the first time but Miho is booted from her spot to make way for another singer's come back appearance. Minchul asks why Muse gets special privileges and it's because they will be putting out Zero's album and promised them his first appearance.
Minchul congratulates Sunjae winning the first battle and gives him a pat on the shoulder, Minchul is very civil about it. He then invites Sunjae to dinner telling him he and Yonsoo are getting engaged. Smoochie went over that. Sunjae goes ballistics and Sena sees.
Jang is caught stealing Victory's CDs for the black market. A detective tells Minchul they raided an illegal CD factory and there were legit copies of Victory's labels and he thinks it's an inside job. Minchul has Jang in his office and tells him he'll call the police. Jang says his father will get hurt if he turns him in. Minchul asks if Sunchun is involved, Jang simply tells him to ask his father first if he's going to turn him in.
Minchul meets Sunchun and asks what Jang has on him. Sunchun answers "nothing." He says that Jang has worked for him for 20 years and thinks he'll protect him. Minchul's encounters with Jang are important to mention here because it's the beginning of Minchul's personal downslide.
Minchul is having a big meeting about Sena and Miho's albums competing. He needs store inputs saying Miho's album needs to be displayed in some way. TM suggests a store display contest, a competition among the stores with prizes. Minchul is game and tells her she'll be in charge of the event. TM is all smiles and tells him she won't disappoint him, and then she winks at him! She's blushing and acting like a school girl. Minchul keeps looking at her for a few long seconds and then he winks back at her. Loved it, loved it, loved it!! LOL TM faints!
In the office, Jang tells Sunchun what he told Minchul and Sunchun is furious. Jang begs him to "pay him off" so he can leave Victory and reminds him about Lee Young jun's incident and "wonders" what would happen if it came to light. Jang reminds him that it was he who wanted Sunchun to call police because it was an accident but Sunchun ordered him to fake a car accident. For what Jang has done for him, if Sunchun turns his back on him, he can't be responsible for what passes his lips. This is his threat. Sunchun pays him off. A very happy and content Jang sees Minchul in the hallway and tells him he's resigning. Minchul is thinking.
Minchul visits Yonsoo at her art class. He just wanted to see her. I love this scene. The both of them are sitting on an iron bench, sipping cold drinks.
Minchul looks at his watch. "In thirty hours and ten minutes...5, 4, 3...Not much time left to run from me." She's smiling.
Yonsoo - Same goes for you. Tell me if you'll have a change of heart.
Minchul, looks at her with a smile. "I don't imagine I'd run." (I love this)
If you were to stop calling me Mr. Lee, how long will you address me that way?
Yonsoo - What should I call you then?
Minchul - It's up to you.
Yonsoo, smiling and looking at him, "Minchul?"
He's blushing, smiling.
Yonsoo - Oppa?
Minchul - Oppa? (brother)
Yonsoo - You choose.
Minchul, pondering a bit - How about, "Sweetie."
She turns away and laughs. (I swear, they probably laughed their you know what off when they were doing this scene. They did this so real like)
Minchul, real serious - "People say that!"
Yonsoo isn't looking at him but she's still giggling.
Minchul looks down and starts laughing, then looks at her.
Minchul - Doesn't suit me, huh?
He turns away and he's laughing.
Yonsoo - I'll call you that when you deserve it. LOL
He's still laughing and blushing.
Yonsoo - I have to get back to work.
Minchul - Don't go. (he's very serious now) I've never thought about getting married. And having a family too. Such a person is getting engaged tomorrow. To be honest, I am a trifle afraid. I don't know what a happy marriage is. I'm not confident I can make you happy.
Yonsoo holding his hand - I'll be satisfied to be happy once in a while. As long as I can be with you I needn't be happy all the time. Don't feel burdened. Instead, I'll make you happy.
He looks at her with such love...
I just want to throw this in. Sunjae after finding out about the engagement finds Yonsoo and smoochie already went over his ignorant rants perfectly. Even Sena thought he was nuts. She gives him a long over due slap in the face! Sunjae is so off the wall here that he's like a kid having a temper tantrum. Trying to make sense out of a man, and I use that word loosely, who loses it over a woman who he never had in the first place, a woman who has always loved another, defies all logic. I can guess that Sunjae never truly grew up, he's quite spoiled and he has a very bad case of sibling rivalry going on. He's still wet behind the ears. He's hung up on Minchul but he can't win. Minchul gets his goat every time without even trying. Sunjae forgot Minchul's brotherly advice. It's all about who Yonsoo desires and she desires Minchul. Who can blame her? There's can be no comparison. Sunjae just isn't in his league.
Minchul's at home telling Myungja he's getting engaged today. He didn't tell Father because he didn't want him to ruin it. Myungja tells him that Yonsoo is a nice girl but asks if he's rushing it. Minchul says that since Yonsoo has no family, they'll have a simple ceremony. He's sorry he can't invite her and once he and Minji move out, they won't be coming by too often. He tells Myungja to live freely with father from now on and that he's sorry for everything.
Narae and Yonsoo at the hairdressers, Yonsoo's getting her hair done for her special day. Narae has a cute talk with Yonsoo.
Minchul's aide reports to him that Jang paid off his gambling debt and bought a new car and house. His aide thinks there's a connection with Minchul's father because Sunchun has recently sold some land. Minchul is deep in troubled thoughts.
Minchul confronts Sunchun in his office telling him he's quite generous with Jang, setting him up for life, "considering he has nothing on you." Sunchun poo poos it. Changing the subject, he says he hears something's happening today and he'll let him do as he pleases since no one knows about it. His fatherly advice to his about to be engaged son? "You'll realize it's nothing special. Just make sure word doesn't get around."
Minchul walks out.
Yonsoo is still at the hairdressers with Narae. Minchul calls her saying something's come up so he'll meet her there and he'll send a car. Yonsoo says it's okay, Sena's coming so I guess she means she'll get herself there.
Yonsoo - Wait.
Minchul - Yes?
Yonsoo gives him a kiss through the phone.
Minchul looks at the phone, closes it and smiles.
Jang in Minchul's office dressed and acting like a big shot now. Minchul tells him he thought it over what he said about his father and regardless, he has to do what's right and to not try to stop him over his father. It doesn't matter to Minchul. He'll report Jang about the CDs.
To not linger here, Jang tells him if he opens his mouth, his father's life is finished.
Minchul - So tell me what I don't know.
And so Jang tells him the whole story...and all this, on Minchul's engagement day.

Re: K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)
Hello BD Family
I loved where Sena slapped Sun Jae. He's needed that slap as a wake up call for a long time. Too bad it was Sena who delivered it. Somebody had to do it though. This fool was on the verge of hysteria. He's asking Yon Soo not to get engaged and to let him show her how much he loves her. She tells him that if you don't return the love, you can't see it in another person.
Does Sun Jae think he and Min Chul are interchangeable?? Its not either, or. How long can this guy go on this way?? Yon Soo does her best here to straighten him out. For me it was too little, too late. He has the confidence to behave this way, because she gave it to him. He said something that suprised me. He asked her not to leave his side. See? This is what I mean. He had the idea that he was actually in the running. When was she at his side? That's because she was never strong enough with him before and he was able to weasel his way with her. More than once she let him infringe on her and Min Chul's plans, making Min Chul sick of both of them. And which gave Sun Jae the boldness to confront Min Chul as far as Yon Soo is concerned. The truth is, none of this is any of his business.
I liked the fact that he went home to tell Myungja that he was going to get engaged to Yon Soo. It showed him to be very respectful and sensitive. He doesn't need her approval and didn't ask for it, though Myungja does approve of Yon Soo. He went because he felt it was the right thing to do. I think he's a very honorable man.
When it comes to business Min Chul always tries to be the bigger person with Sun Jae. He congratulates him, even though they've become rivals. But, that's because Min Chul is an adult and behaves like one. Sun Jae is so full of resentment that he never accepts a pat on the back from him graciously. He's still pouty and whiny even though he's free to do whatever he wants. You'd think he'd smile once in a while. If he was my kid I'd have him tested, or on some strong anti-depressent. He's a real pain.
The scene when Min Chul goes to the art school to see Yon Soo is very special. It seems he went there just to tell her his insecure feelings about being able to make her happy. He knows how hard it is for him to be forthcoming and warm and he worries about being able to show his love. He's come a long way. She's very good at showing her feelings, given a little spurt of confidence, it all comes out. She tells him she doesn't have to be happy all of the time. Instead she'll make him happy. I love this. I have to say, though, I can't see him being called "sweetie" for a long time yet. That little exchange is funny and cute...
The kiss over the phone is a pleasant surprise for Min Chul. I'd be willing to bet that was his first time. It seems out of character for Yon Soo, but we don't know yet what she's capable of while in love. Very nice.
I can't talk about Jang yet. Its much too painful and I can't do it. Someone? Anyone? I'm so sad for Min Chul here.

Re: K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)
Hello BD family
Min Chul has come face to face with evil in this episode (16) and its his father.
Min Chul hears about the settlement his father gave Jang. He confronts Sunchun once again and once again he denies everthing. He, instead tells Min Chul that he's heard something's happening today. He tells his son to do what he wants, just to make sure that word doesn't get around. This man doesn't even know his son, or he'd know he'd never do such a thing without honorable intentions. Min Chul doesn't even bother to answer him and leaves.
He goes to his own office and calls Jang to come in. He calls Yon Soo and tells her that he's going to meet her at the church, to go ahead without him.
He tries to learn the truth from Jang, after threatening him with arrest. Jang is telling him that he could bring his father down if that happens. Min Chul calls his bluff and Jang spills the beans.
There's a reception for Sena and of course being part of Muse, Sun Jae is there. Sena tries to talk him into going to the church to watch the engagement and to see how happy Min Chul and Yon Soo are together. I get the feeling that that's the last thing Sun Jae wants to see, Yon Soo happy with Min Chul.
Yon Soo arrives at the church with Narae and Sena, Min Ji's already there. As usual, Sena and Min Ji exchange insults, but Narae calls a truce for the day. Min Ji tells Yon Soo that she's waited a long time to be a mean sister in law. Yon Soo doesn't feel threatened. She knows Min Ji likes her and approves.
Min Chul is in his car, driving very fast. He's rehashing in his mind what Jang has just told him. He arrives home. His phone is ringing, but he ignores it. He, once again, confronts his father. Once again Sunchun denies what he's hearing. Min Chul isn't buying it. After telling him all that Jang told him, he puts Sunchun on the spot. He tells his father that if its not true, they should take charges out on Jang for blackmail. Sunchun panics here and tells Min Chul not to do that. His actions basically confirmed Min Chul's worst nightmare. I feel like crying for him here.

Re: K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)
He's low key, but obviously distraught. (Very fine acting right here!) He tells Sunchun he always thought it strange. The father he knew would never have raised another man's son as his own. Now he understands the reason. He asks, was raising Sun Jae his way of atoning? Sunchun is still sputtering and trying to continue the lie. He denies it all. Min Chul leaves him standing there and walks away. He knows the truth.
He's driving to the church, looking so despondent and miserable. When he gets there he passes Sun Jae on the stairs. Neither say a word. Min Chul watches him go down. He stands in the doorway, watching Yon Soo. She looks worried and apprehensive. He watches her for a long while.
At this point he's very late and Min Ji knows he wouldn't be late. Min Ji is worried that he may've been in an accident and wants to call the police and hospitals. Yon Soo knows its something else, though not what it is. She talks Min Ji out of it. At this point, I think she knows he's not coming.
In the next scene we see Min Chul in the apartment that he brought Yon Soo to, where just a little while ago he gave her a ring and proposed to her. Its a totally different Min Chul here. He's getting very drunk. He's in the shower fully dressed. He still looks so shocked and in disbelief, though he knows its all true. He doesn't know how to come to terms with it. He's passed out on the bed. Yon Soo is calling, but he throws the phone and won't answer.
Sena's just made some kind of appearance and the fans are going wild. She and Narae are very happy. Seems like she's going to be a hit. Narae is feeling guilty for feeling so good while Yon Soo is almost dead. Sena, being Sena, says she won't pay attention to Yon Soo's business, because this is a very critical time for her. See? This is why I can never get over my intense dislike for this selfish, mean girl.
Yon Soo is at the art school when her phone rings. She knows its Min Chul, though he won't speak. She's frantic. Nobody knows what happened to him. He must've told her where he is, because she rushes there. When he opens the door to her, she knows at first sight, that something disastrous has happened to him. He's still drinking. She asks him what happened? Is he okay? Is he hurt? He can't answer her. He doesn't look at her. Tears roll down his face. She hugs him close to her and he grasps her sleeve, like a little kid hanging on for dear life. He cries out loud in her arms. She asks what this is about, but he can only cry. This scene breaks my heart!!
He finally falls asleep, probably exhausted from the last 24 hours. She holds him. When he wakes up she's still beside him on the bed. He asks if she waited long. She doesn't answer. He tells her he's sorry. She asks again, what this is about. She says she's never seen him like this and she's very worried. He tells her she should go and that he'll call her later. He lies back down, covers himself and closes his eyes. He tells her he wants to be alone. She leaves him after looking at him for a few minutes.
When she gets home, Narae and Sena are waiting to hear what happened. She tells them that he won't say, but that he's devastated and won't speak. Sena thinks she should've dug deeper. Narae says it'll all come out eventually. Yon Soo is crying, remembering how miserable he looked. She knows he didn't just shrug off their plans. She knows it was something very serious for him to just not show up.
3At the art school, she's told someone's there to see her. She rushes out thinking its Min Chul. Its not its Sun Jae. Did he come to gloat? To say, "I told you so!!" Of course he did. First thing out of his mouth, did she think it was Min Chul waiting for her? She doesn't deny it or try to hide her disappointment. He tells her he came because he's worried. He asks if Min Chul's called. She doesn't answer. He's actually there to bad mouth him. He tells her it isn't right, Min Chul must know how much she's suffering, but he's totally ignoring her. Yon Soo finally tells him she doesn't want to hear that. She's very worried about him. In the next scene we see the little worm with Sena. She's worried about HIM. He tells her he'll never forgive Min Chul if he comes back to Yon Soo without giving her a reason. Like its his business!! He couldn't care less about Min Chul and what might've happened to keep him away. WHO IS THIS GUY???
Min Chul is standing outside his house a long time before he goes inside. The whole family is in the living room. Sunchun, Myungja and Min Ji. Min Ji is relieved to see him. She starts to question him right away. Is he okay? What happened yesterday? Myungja asks if he's okay and Min Ji tells her to back off and not pretend to care for him. Min Chul stops her. He heads to his room with Min Ji following. Sunchun is scared. Min Chul's on his computer, researching Sun Jae's father and Mimi.
I think he went to find Sun Jae, in any case he runs into him and gets out of his car. Sun Jae's on his bike, looks at Min Chul and just drives off, leaving him standing there. Little creep!! Now was the time to ask all of the questions, he felt, he needed answered. Not that its any of his business, but this was his chance. But, we know he doesn't care about what may've happened to Min Chul, he's just happy to have any little excuse to knock him to Yon Soo. Like that does him any good.
Narae's going crazy because Yon Soo's looking at her phone trying to will it to ring. She tells her to call him, but Yon Soo says she has to have faith in him. Narae tries to take the phone from her to call Min Chul herself. They're struggling over the phone when it rings. Its Min Chul. He asks to see her right now. She runs to meet him. He's waiting in a cafe'. She stands outside looking in at him. The expression on his face makes her feel very sad. Me too. He looks so weary.
She goes inside and stands before him. He tells her to sit down. He doesn't look up. They both look awful. He tells her that he knows what she wants from him is a reason, but he has no excuse to offer. And the engagement.... She interrupts here. She sees the handwriting on the wall. She says its okay, they don't need an engagement. Her promise to him hasn't changed. Don't worry about that. He doesn't speak for a moment. He tells her that he can't promise her anything, so to forget about her promise. He tells her that's what's best for her. She asks again what's going on? Discuss it with her if he has a problem. She says he can tell her, he should. He tells her he doesn't want to discuss it with her. She can't do anything for him. The only thing she can do for him is leave him alone. He can't stand that she's there beside him. He can't and won't look her in the eye here. He says that's what he wanted to tell her. She's not to call him from now on. She's overwrought. She tells him she won't ask him anything and she won't bother him. She says, "Please just let me be by your side."
He's standing now and she's gripping his arm and crying. He looks down at her hand and notices the ring on her finger. He finally pries her hand off of his arm. He leaves, with tears in his eyes. She's sitting there, openly crying. He's gone.
For whatever reason, Yon Soo knows that his coldness toward her was necessary for him. She doesn't know why, but she knows he's undone, because of something that has nothing at all to do with her. I guess that's why she's so heartbroken. She feels that whatever it is, they could get through it together. For Min Chul's part, there's no way he could divulge to her what happened to turn him away from her. He has too much pride. I don't think he's even digested all that he's found out yet and is definitely in no condition to share with anyone, least of all her.
This was an extremely hard episode to watch and I didn't want to watch it, but I did. Horrible. Just heart breaking!!
I have to add, the acting in this scene was top notch. CJW is great and LBH is stellar!!! Like emceema said, in a class by himself.
Sunday in NYC and here I sit. I started this post a long time ago. It took forever. Sorry I have so much to say, but once I get started......
I'll be back.

K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)
Good Morning BD,
Smoochie, thanks so much for the summary! These are such sad episodes now and when I think back, Minchul and Yonsoo only had a short time being truly happy together and having fun.
I'd like to know your opinion on Minchul getting cold feet at the church. I think it was a spur of the moment reaction to not go through with it. He drives to the church though sad and upset about his father.
I think he had every intention on going through with the engagement regardless, until he saw the sack sack coming down the stairs like it was the end of the world. At this point it is only the end of the world for Sunjae because Yonsoo is getting engaged.
My feeling is that when Minchul sees Sunjae looking miserable this instant on the stairs of the church, Sunjae's body language pushes it out in front again in Minchul's mind that his dad killed Sunjae's dad. Minchul might be thinking that Sunjae will have more to contend with, to be sad and angry about. Add that to Sunjae's losing Yonsoo, I just feel that Minchul is overwelmed with guilt and sorrow for Sunjae now. I don't know if I'm explaining it the right way.
I don't believe Minchul was going to the church to call it off. Not by a long shot. He would never have gone to the church to stand in the wings to watch Yonsoo being sad, miserable and embarrassed. He just decided this at the last moment, because of Sunjae.
Sunjae has always been the reason of Minchul and Yonsoo's troubles and this time is no exception because how else can it be explained why Minchul stopped and looked at a sad Sunjae and then doesn't enter the church? I think he sees Sunjae's life about to turn for the worst when he hears the news and topping it off with Yonsoo's engagement might make him go over the edge.
Or do you think that he bails out of getting engaged because his father killed a man and he feels ashamed and not worthy?
Maybe both of the above? I think it's because of Minchul's thinking of Sunjae's non-ability to handle ALL of this.
The bathtub scene was the saddest thing and when he cried in Yonsoo's arms. I liked that he called her but then he couldn't talk. But it was good that she saw him like that because she now knows something big is going on and he's just devasted. I think because she sees him like this, she'll never give up on him now. This was a big thing for a man who closes off his emotions in Yonsoo's way of thinking. (not mine.) She'll never give him up now.
Since Minchul is wealthy in his own right, I very strongly believe that this apartment or penthouse is owned by Minchul. It's where he proposed and where he went to crash. Penthouses are always on the top floors. Smoochie, have you been to AC? We had a free room for one day/night from Trump and stayed in the floor below the penthouse which was at the very top of the building at the Taj. Even the corridor was more classy than the usual lower floors, sporting smokey glass walls.
The large room we stayed in had glass walls and ceiling even in the bathroom. LOL Never was in anything like it before and it wasn't even the penthouse. Phone in the bathroom, a bar (minus the liquor,) the whole works. Awww, it's so nice to play rich for one day!
Thinking this dejected twirp has called it a day forevermore, Sunjae turns up at Yonsoo's art school. His flip question asking her if she thought it was Minchul shows his mean persona. Of course she was hoping and thought it was Minchul. Why wouldn't she? What's it to him? Minchul's her man. Sunjae just won't disappear. He's totally disgusting as a human being. What is it he's trying to prove anyway? Who is this creep? Any problems between Yonsoo and Minchul are their problems, what's Sunjae sticking himself in the middle for? Who asked? Wait until he gets some truth thrown his way, we'll see how he acts. Now that the s...hit the fan, I can't wait for Sunjae's turn.
Yea, Sunjae could have talked to Minchul when he got out of his car. The kid with the big mouth, with all the answers just high tails it out of there. Sunjae has turned into a cold person himself. He wants Yonsoo. He despises Minchul because he has her love. He's so jealous it's eating him up. Even in Minchul's troubles right now, Sunjae knows that Yonsoo still wants him. Like I said before, Minchul doesn't even have to try. It's all about who Yonsoo desires.
At this point, when Yonsoo meets Minchul in the restaurant and he brings up the word engagement, Yonsoo is so head over heels in love with him she's one step ahead of him in knowing what he's about to say. She doesn't need an engagement she tells him. She'll do anything to keep him now, she loves him and she knows he still loves her. She can't imagine what has happened though. That's tough.
Minchul plays it cold but I don't believe it for one second. The saddest thing was when he told her he can't stand that she's there beside him. And when he had to pry her fingers off of his arm. We're going to see an about change in their relationship from now on. Yonsoo is going to do the pursuing and it's going to get even sadder. Minchul saw that she is wearing his engagement ring. What is he thinking? One thing for sure is he has to know that she truly loves him. No doubt there. He doesn't feel worthy of her now though.
I can't wait until Sunjae gets a dose of reality too. I want to see how he handles things with his mother. I wonder if he can do a better job with his mother than Minchul did with Yonsoo since he's so "perfect." We'll see.

Re: K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)
Good Morning BD Family
Jasy, I never really thought about Sun Jae being the reason Min Chul changed his mind. I think it was a combination of both things you mentioned. The fact that his father killed Sun Jae's and that he thinks he has nothing to offer her now. His pride got in the way. The fact that it was because of Sun Jae, makes me hate him even more. He's such a weenie.
You're right, I think he was going to go through with it, until he saw Weepy Willie. This loser has had the same look on his face since episode 1. Right now in episode 16 he's right to be sad and angry, finding out the truth of what happened, but what was it about before that? Min Chul has no fault in this. He should have gone on in. This guy is always in the way of those two.
The acting in this episode is right on the money. I can't say enough how impressed I am with LBH's acting ability. He really is an actor's, actor. He made me cry from the shower on. His expression adn demeaner were perfect. The scene in the cafe was so sad. He looked tired and done in and he had to say good-bye to Yon Soo. He made me feel so bad for both of them. His coldness toward her was so thought out and meant to make her hate him. Poor Yon Soo. Still no explanation.
Here's Sun Jae's chance! Min Chul is out of the picture, right?? He should go for it. Only thing is he'd have to be out of Yon Soo's heart for his whining and stalking to work. That'll never, never happen in Sun Jae's lifetime.
It only gets worse from here on and I don't like watching it, but how can I not?
I'll be back

K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)
Good Morning BD,
At the restaurant, Minchul is done talking, he pulls his hand out of Yonsoo's tight grip. The camera does a closeup and it's the saddest thing, she doesn't want to let him go. She's crying and his heart is breaking. He walks out with tears in his eyes. Outside he stands beside his car, leaning on it. I wonder what he's thinking? Maybe he thinks he let her down, he was supposed to go to the end with her. This isn't the end though he thinks so.
Yonsoo is crying but gets up to run after him. She catches him when he's about to get into his car and she grabs him.
Yonsoo - You can't leave me like this. That's wrong. You've already wronged me by making me wait and worry. You can't do this without giving me a chance to forgive you. (she screams her last words)
Michul feels awful, he's looking down at the ground.
Minchul - I don't want you to forgive me.
Yonsoo - You have to. Not for you, but for me. You know how hard it is to hate someone you have to love. You should know, since you hate your father. (she shouts at him) You seem to be the same with your father now. What you're doing is worse than your father. At least you had a reason to hate him. I have to hate you without knowing the reason.
Minchul - I have a reason. I abandoned you. What other reason do you need?
Yonsoo - You didn't abandon me.
Minchul - I did. (he's going to remain steadfast in his reason. He does something with his hand towards her but it's out of camera range)
Yonsoo, voice raised, "Don't say that. You and I can't give up so easily. It's time to be happy. You and I have endured lots to get to this point. Did you forget that?"
Minchul - I want to release you because it's only going to get tougher, why don't you get that? (raising his voice with those last words)
Yonsoo - I can endure it. As long as you're with me, I can take anything. (she won't give up or give in. Notice how she never wavers or pauses when he throws out his words at her. She intends to be with him til the end. She loves him that much)
Minchul - shouting, "I can't! I can't do it!"
Yonsoo stares into his eyes so sadly with tears falling. He's looking into her eyes.
Minchul - he gently says, "You're too weak and kind. For a man, he has to protect and take care of you. To watch out for you. To make you stop crying. To keep you from being heartbroken. It means that always should be careful. I thought that's what I wanted in my life, but now it's more than I can handle.
Yonsoo is crying.
Minchul - There's no room to take care of you too. I can't stand the burden. It's too hard for me. I'm abandoning you.
Without taking his eyes off her face as their music plays, he tells her "You're bad. You shouldn't have made me say this."
Yonsoo - Still, I can't let you go. Even if it's hard for you, I can't let you leave me. (she grabs his arm) Even if I'm a burden, please don't leave. You love me. If you love me, bear that much.
Minchul - (with his guard up) Stop talking about love. Love may be all to you, but it's not that to me. (again he pries her hand off of his arm and starts to turn away from her)
Yonsoo is in a panic, her eyes closed, mouth clenched, she yells "Mr Lee" while holding her hand up showing his ring on her finger.
Yonsoo - This ring...You gave me this. (he turns away from her but he doesn't move) Not a year ago or months! Just a few days ago. You asked if I'd have you till the end? Till the end! Remember what you said to me then? You've got my answer, that I'd share your fate. How can you do this to me now? (she's screaming her words) This isn't the end.
I feel so sorry for both of them. She is really crying. After a pause, Minchul tells her "To me, it is."
Yonsoo - Then this ring is useless to me. (she holds out her hand to him) You gave it, so take it back. (testing him? yep! He doesn't move)
Yonsoo crying, "Why can't you?"
Minchul - You put it on yourself. Take it off yourself too. (he pulls his arm out of her grasp once more and gets in his car) Music is playing, he never looks at her, starts up his car and takes off)
Yonsoo runs a few steps yelling "Mr. Lee!" as she watches him disappear out of her life. She's just about destroyed, she cries and breathes heavy.
Minchul is on the highway in his car driving, eyes full of tears...Yonsoo is walking on a busy sidewalk, heartbroken and staring straight ahead... Minchul, still driving, is crying... Yonsoo crosses the street and almost gets hit by cars...Tears are falling from Minchul's eyes, he wipes them away while new tears form, he puts his hand to his forehead. He knows what he has done to Yonsoo and his love. The camera gets up close to his eyes. Those are real crying tears, red eyes, no eye drops here. He keeps wiping his eyes...and that haunting music...who's singing it Smoochie? Sunjae/Zero??? LOL
I have to say this scene showed CJW and LBH at one of their best times acting together. Their exchange is so real like I wonder if they even followed the script. They both have lots of experience under their belts and they're so good together in their encounters, it could pass for the real thing, ad libing.
They're both so sad I just want to hug them. Minchul needs Yonsoo now but he doesn't want to do that to her. He doesn't want to drag her into the mud that's sure to come. She's too kind and weak for that he feels. Yonsoo can be tough when she has to be though. She would endure anything for him, just to be with him. That's how much she loves him.
Yonsoo arrives home and sees Narae on the roof waiting for her. She asks Yonsoo if she met Minchul and if he told her why he didn't show up. Yonsoo tells her yes, but she can't really say. Narae asks if it was a big enough deal for him to miss his own engagement. Yonsoo shakes her head yes. Narae says as long as she's okay with it she can always have another engagement party, a bigger and better one. Narae is a wonderful friend, isn't she? She tells Yonsoo she comes first with her over anybody, even Sena. Yonsooo tells her not to worry about her, just concentrate on Sena.
Narae, being Narae tells Yonsoo she should show Minchul who's the boss. "When a man makes a hugh mistake you have to seize the opportunity to gain the upper hand. Pretend to be angry and give him a hard time. Then he knows you mean business." Words of wisdom! LOL
Narae wants to go to sleep but Yonsoo tells her she has to wash up first. Narae goes inside. Yonsoo just wants to be alone in her misery...
They love each other so much it makes you wonder how Minchul could give her up. He has too many problems right now and he is overwelmed. The knowledge that his father killed Sunjae's father is like a knife twisting away in his chest. He almost can't handle it. He needs to be alone in his misery. It's so sad. I wish he'd let Yonsoo be with him, just to be beside him. That's all she wants.

Re: K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)
I figured right about now we could all use a treat.
Jasy, thanks for the recap. I have to say this is a killer scene, if possible worse than episode 16, which was bad enough. Both actors were on top of their game.
Watching Yon Soo beg made me so sorry for her. The anguish in her face was almost too much to see. I know he's trying to save her from a lot of stuff that's coming up, but I don't know how he resisted wrapping his arms around her and soothing her. I get why he's doing, what he's doing, but he has to be really strong to turn away from her right now.
When he tells her she's too weak and kind and needs to be protected and taken care of, I got it. He has enough to think about, without having to care for her at the same time. He can't think as it is, so he can't put her into the mix. Something or someone else for him to worry about. He can't handle that right now. Its not a small thing he's struggling with. He's just found out his father's a murderer. He's still trying to swallow that information. His heart is breaking and now he's breaking her's. He tells her he can't take care of her. Its too hard for him. I understand this and I don't want to. Along with Yon Soo's heart, he was breaking mine too.
She wants to be with him. I know all she wants at this point is for him to give her some sort of hope. She's frantic and hysterical and he's trying to be as cutting as he can. He wants to seem unfazed and cold. He wants her to hate him. He wants it to be easier for her. He thinks the more unfeeling he acts the better off she'll be. He's very wrong. I don't think he knows how strong she is.
When he told her, referring to the ring, "You put it on yourself, take it off yourself.", I thought he hit a new low. I know why he said that, because he couldn't bear to take it from her, but that was a real blow to her. If he was trying to prove to her that it was over, that alone should have done it. We know how he was grieving, but she couldn't possibly know. She really wants to know what happened to make him so desolate and hopeless. She thinks, that if she knew, she could find a way to convince him not to leave her. That she'd be there with him. She'd try to rationalize it for him. Min Chul isn't close to ready for that. He can't spit out the words.
After he left her and he was driving and crying, it brought me to my knees. We see him cry a couple of times in this drama and if he's not really crying he's fooling me!! Tears running down his face, him wiping them away. No over-acting here, just tears and obvious despair.
He is a truly fine actor. I know I say this all of the time, but he just proves it to me again and again. And you're right Jasy, these two together made this scene so real to me. I think this performance by both of them is beyond anything I've seen them in. Choi Ji Woo was outstanding here too. This was such an emotional scene and they brought it right across to us. Yon Soo crying out loud and bereft, Min Chul heartbroken, but in control enough to do what he thinks is best for her. Great!! Just great!!
I watched this whole episode and I have to watch it again. Its a crucial part in the story. It only gets worse from here and I'm grateful to know someone else is suffering with me.
I'm going to watch some more LBH. I'll be back.
