K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)

Good Morning BD,

I like the pictures! And the walk!! The thing with LBH's non speaking scenes is though all actors have them, with LBH his eyes and expressions continue the story line, he conveys his part without the words. His story is ongoing without saying a word. If you watch close enough, you'll catch it. He never just "looks" sad, you'll see that his mind is working with silent words. And his facial expressions are never the same. The deep squinting of the eyes, his emotion is all there. The camera always does a close up on him in these scenes. I know why. He's that good. Take for instance, the actor playing Sunjae. I recently watched him in another drama and he looked and acted exactly like "Sunjae," his sad look looked like he was about to cry in some of his scenes. Exactly like in BD. So it seems that not all actors can pull off what LBH does.

The picture above reminded me of another way LBH expressed his feelings about Yonsoo getting sick on their honeymoon. When he sat beside her and leaned over to look in her face, he had his hands folded in front of him, the picture shows this. It was a very casual approach towards Yonsoo. Nothing too heavy, nothing too serious to let her see in his reaction to this crisis of hers. He appears in front of her to be calm and matter of fact, like this will soon pass. And he'd rather watch the scenery than walk around anyway. Is this guy perfect or what??

Sunjae's done a good deed? I can't remember what it is. Smoochie, he's all yours...

Good Morning BD Family emoticon

I've been away for a very long time, it seems to me. Life got in the way of my Kdrama. I hate when that happens. emoticon

Back to Sun Jae and his good deed. Sun Jae goes to visit his mother's burial site and finds Sunchun is already there. Sunchun is drunk and crying. He's come to tell Myungja about Min Chul's marriage to Yon Soo. He says how nice it would've been had she been there. This guy is still living in denial, I think. Sun Jae approaches him and places his flowers next to his. He tells him to please go now. He's not happy to find him here.

In the next scene we see Sunchun sitting on a bench outside, chugging soju from a bottle, with Sun Jae sitting next to him. He tells Sun Jae that his mother visits him in his dreams often and just cries. He feels she must harbor a huge grudge. Ya think?!? Sun Jae is stone faced and tells him not to talk about her. He starts to get up to leave, but Sunchun stops him. He tells him he's sorry, he was wrong. Sun Jae can't look at him, but Sunchun goes on. He asks Sun Jae to forgive him. He tells him he's not asking him to do anything, but he must ask for his forgiveness. He's weeping the whole time, through this. Sun Jae finally turns to look at him and tells him not to trivialize his sins. He can't ever be forgiven for what he made his mother go through. He gets up and starts to walk away, with Sunchun calling after him. Sunchun tries to get up, but he's too drunk and falls to the ground, crying and calling Sun Jae's name. Sun Jae stops and turns.

In the next scene we see Sun Jae carrying him on his back through the cemetery. Finally, we see him on a street, where he puts Sunchun in a taxi and sends him off. He stands for a moment watching it drive off.

Its hard to understand the expression on his face here. What could he have been thinking, bothering to pick up this man off of the sidewalk, who killed his father and caused his mother to commit suicide? Where did he get the humanity to do that? Was it a flashback to this man being his father for so many years? Was it just a good deed and nothing more? Something he'd have done for a total stranger? But, a total stranger may have deserved more sympathy and kindness than Sunchun does. I don't know.

Sun Jae gained some points here to me. emoticon

Moving on to the honeymoon night next. emoticon

I'll be back. emoticon

Rumor has it that she has a new guy in her life. I'd still rather see her on his arm, than on anybody's. Her new onscreen lover isn't too bad though, I must say. Still, for me, its LBH all the way. emoticon

See, how good they look together! emoticon

K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)

Good Morning BD,

It's so good to be back after having computer trouble. Looks like things are slowing down around here on the threads though.

In their hotel room and still on their honeymoon, Yonsoo has taken a nap after feeling ill. She's lying on Narae's lap and just has awakened to a very worried Narae. She asks Yonsoo if she isn't feeling well. She shakes her head no and says she's just upset. Yonsoo especially didn't want to get sick today she tells her friend. Narae is trying to comfort her and tells her that she can always come back, that once she's well she can go on many trips. Narae thinks they should go back home today because Yonsoo won't feel secure at Mr. Lee's. Narae's intentions are good but Minchul just married his Yonsoo for better or worse and in sickness and in health. She nows belongs with her husband. But Narae tells her that when she gets better she can move into Mr. Lee's. Above all else, Narae is thinking this might be the best for Yonsoo and I understand her concern. But Yonsoo is now Mrs. Lee.

Yonsoo says she has to go with Minchul. Narae's worried she might get worse but Yonsoo says she can't do that to Minchul. Yonsoo tells her this is their honeymoon once in their whole life and she has to stay with him. Case closed.

Yonsoo is now in the bathroom putting on fresh face powder when she stops and stares at her face. She really looks pale and sickly. When she applies her lipstick, the tears start rolling down her cheeks. She tries not to cry, holding in her sobs. All alone, she faces her reality once again by looking in the mirror. There's no mistake that she's really sick.

Right outside the hotel's doors are Minchul and Kumsuk waiting and anxious. A very concerned Minchul is tapping his foot on the ground over and over and over again. Kumsuk is blankly staring into space. No words are spoken. Narae finally comes running out to Minchul and tells him that Yonsoo has awakened and to go inside. Minchul heads to their room pronto. Kumsuk asks Narae isn't she well? I don't believe Kumsuk knows about Yonsoo's illness yet.

Minchul enters their room and heads straight to the bathroom door. He knocks. No answer. He quietly opens the door and sees Yonsoo looking in the mirror. She immediately turns around with a smile and goes to him, standing directly in front of him. He just looks at her, waiting for some kind of a clue as to how to proceed in talking to her. She tells him she's okay, she feels better after her nap. She doesn't want him worried. He's still focused on her face and I don't know if he believes her or not. She goes on to tell him that she was nervous about the wedding, that even healthy brides often pass out after the ceremonies. Come to think of it, I don't think he's buying it. He's still looking at her when she asks if he was bored waiting for her? She grabs his hand and says they should go out. Minchul gives her a little smile but tells her they should just rest here. She wants to go out. So wins.

Mr. and Mrs. Lee are walking arm and arm through a now deserted very large eatery, lots and lots of small tables and chairs with attached sun umbrellas on some of them. They take a seat across from each other but first Minchul places his jacket over Yonsoo's shoulders. Since the tables are really small, they are quite close to one another. Minchul puts his elbows on the table with his chin resting on his folded hands and leans closer towards her as he gazes into Yonsoo's face, lovingly. Minchul gives her a smile. Yonsoo does the same leaning her chin on her hands as she looks at her husband's face.

Without changing this pose, they both move in closer towards each other. Very close. Their elbows are almost touching. Looking into each other's eyes, Yonsoo asks him what does he expect from her as a wife? Minchul tells her that he doesn't expect anything, that it's enough that she is his wife. She again asks if he doesn't have any wants? He shakes his head. She tells him she has one...she wants him to eat everything she cooks. He tells her, no problem, he's not picky. Is he the perfect husband or what?? LOL Yonsoo then tells him it's his turn.

This is a great scene, I'd call it an exchange of wishes. Minchul thinks for a few seconds then tells her that first thing each morning, she has to smile at him. Awww...Yonsoo tells him okay. He tells her it's her turn. Yonsoo tells him not to look so suave to other women. He gives a little laugh and tells her he'll try but she shouldn't expect the impossible. LOL I love the look she gives him. He now has a big grin on his face. Still up close to each other, she tells him that when when she doesn't look her best, he has to tell her. Minchul's turn, he tells her she can't doubt his saying she's beautiful. You just gotta love this guy, no?

Yonsoo's turn again and she tells him to not worry about her when she's not around. Minchul's looking deeply into her eyes. He tells her not to shed tears when he's not around. With those words, her eyes fill up with tears.

Yonsoo's turn, she tells him not to hurt more than she does. His eyes are getting teary now and he becomes quiet. His eyes begins to lower, then he closes his eyes as his head is now leaning on his folded hands. Yonsoo never takes her eyes off his face and her tears are coming fast now. Eyes still closed, then opened looking at her, Minchul tells her not to leave him behind. He's quietly crying himself now as he wipes Yonsoo's tears. He tells her she promised not to cry. She nods her head and touches his face and he closes his eyes. She begins to wipe his tears away with her hands. He gives her a smile. They're both holding each other's faces in their hands as they look into each other's eyes.

This is such a great thought out exchange of words by the writers for the two of them. Each request made by Yonsoo had an involved answer by Minchul taking her request a step farther for himself. Such a clever idea and these kind of scenes are what make this drama so special and different. From what I have watched in this drama, you can clearly see that every single scene from the leads to the character actors, the scenes were well thought out and important to the story. Nothing was taken for granted by these writers. I'd have to say that the love story of Minchul and Yonsoo is one of the best.

I agree smoochie, about Sunjae taking the high road in helping Sunchun when he was passed out. I have mixed feelings about his words to Sunchun's feelings about his wife at the memorial site but all in all it was a good scene. Sunjae finally gets to face his stepfather in a more peaceful setting and although Sunchun is to blame for the whole mess, Sunjae sees that Sunchun is truly sorry even though he won't forgive him.

I liked how Minchul reacted to Yonsoo's getting ill when she came out of the bathroom. He waits for her reaction and words first, but he never takes his eyes off of her face. Sometimes in life, no words are the best words if that makes sense. He clearly is anxious and worried but he tries not to let her see it. But she does. So she tries to make him feel better with her words of why she got sick. They both play this little game with each other in trying to make each other not worry. They both play along and it works for them. But I blieve they clearly know what the other is thinking.

We get another glimpse of Sunjae with Sena but don't hold your breath for them to get together. And the wedding night is next...

Good Morning BD Family emoticon

This was a lovely scene. They're talking about their expectations. When you listen, you know each wants the other to be happy. That may be all they want. Min Chul wants Yon Soo to be healthy and to let him in when she feels scared and alone. He doesn't want her to cry when he's not with her. The place where he asks her not to leave him behind, made me cry. When he choked up on his words, that was it. Such a good job!! He really is the best at suppressed emotion. emoticon

Outside the bathroom door was another example of that. He hears her weeping inside the bathroom and so he hums and sings a little to himself, so she doesn't think he hears her. Its so touching how he wants to take care of her without making her feel like a burden. His eyes are filled with tears, so they're crying together, but he still wants to appear strong for her, so she can't know that. He's great in these scenes and so is she. Great writing too.

Its hard to imagine the Min Chul of the past in this caring, tender man we see here, but he's the same guy. He's still strong and tough and cool. That's where he gets the wherewithal, to do what he needs to do to take care of Yon Soo, without breaking. No matter what, he's going to make her happy and feel safe. She knows she can trust him, but I think it breaks her heart that he's taken on such a burden in marrying her. He has no such thoughts. He can't imagine not being with her through this. He wouldn't have a moments peace if he wasn't able to see for himself how she's doing, bad or good. He's there for the long haul. emoticon

I have to go, but I'll be back to watch Min Chul try to strike just the right pose. emoticon

I'm happy you're back Jasy. emoticon

K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)

Good Morning BD,

It's good to be back smoochie. It's amazing how much these Kdramas and this board have become a part of our lives. Take it all away and what would we do? LOL

I think the chance meeting between Sunjae and Sunchun at the memorial site was a good thing for the both of them. Though Sunchun is the worst of the worst, Sunjae gets to see him feeling sorry. And though Sunjae doesn't want to hear it, it's good he did. I think it brings closure for Sunjae and it allows the both of them to say what they needed to say to each other. This is the way the writers close their relationship.

Your right on smoochie, about Minchul's supressed emotions. We've seen it throughout this drama. Many scenes where he doesn't say a word. This actor doesn't have to. The director uses LBH's talents over and over like this. I love the way Minchul reacts to Yonsoo's distress. He never overdoes it with his own emotions in front of her. While he shows some tears in front of her, he remains the strong one for her to lean on. He never loses it. The table scene was very touching and the picture alone says it all.

I'll be back...

Re: K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)

Good Morning BD Family emoticon

After posting that picture on the BB thread this morning, something struck me about one scene. Though I realized it at the time, I didn't realize the depth of it. I'm going to post the picture here and then tell you what I mean. emoticon

Image

Okay, see the picture where Min Chul is standing watching Yon Soo? That one picture tells the whole story of these two. He seems to be just looking at her, but he gets everything that's making her feel insecure in that one look. Min Chul always studies Yon Soo and did right from the beginning. It was his way of knowing what she was feeling and what she was needing, from him, at any given moment.

If you remember this scene, you'll remember that he walked up to her, after studying her face for a moment, and took her hand. He asked her if she'd eaten lunch. He asked her if she was tired, (they'd been at the beach all night). He apologized for not calling her the whole day. he said he was so busy, the time got away from him. Saying those things and asking those questions, he wanted her to know that the night before was not a fluke or a lark and that she meant something important to him. He zeroed right into her fears and dispelled them. Once again he made everything right. AND THEN HE KISSED HER!! HE KISSED HER!! emoticon That kiss will go down in Kdrama history, for me, as my all time favorite kiss. emoticon LBH brags that he has good kissing skills. YES, YES HE DOES!!! emoticon He also made a comment that CJW had no complaints. I'll bet!!

The real value of Min Chul, aside from his kissing skills, is that he's totally tuned into Yon Soo and this carries into their relationship throughout. He pays attention. He listens. He watches. He looks into her eyes. He takes nothing for granted. He knows what she needs and he does everything in his power to give it to her. Even when it only means to let her be. He lets her be.

Right now, when she's so sick, he's doing it still. He wants her to be secure and comfortable with him, but he watches and waits for her cue. He doesn't take a step without it benefiting Yon Soo. I love him, because he always pays attention. And Yon Soo never sees him sweat. He makes sure she knows he's strong and will take care of everything, without ever being overwrought, or showing he's afraid. And he is afraid.

This actor can do anything as far as I'm concerned. Just in case you didn't know. That one scene was done quietly and without overacting. Just the look on his face in that picture tells the whole story. You can see the character taking stock of the situation and knowing what to do, for her to feel sure about them. For her not to feel shaky. Min Chul's my hero!! emoticon

Okay, just one more example. This scene was gut wrenching to watch. Yon Soo crying and Min Chul crying with her. He was smiling with tears running down his face. Yon Soo never knew. He'd never let her know how sad, or scared he was for her. He didn't let her know, he knew she was crying. He had to keep up a strong front for her to feel hopeful.

K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)

Good Morning BD,

You hit the nail right on the head smoochie. Your explanation of his acting/character was exact. That's what I love about LBH so much. I don't know how many times I said it but I'll say it again. He never has to talk. I've read articles where his eyes are described as totally expressive showing all the ranges of moods. He's very good at this.

I just love the pictures of these scenes. Lucky for us, they're scattered throughout this drama. I can't get enough. Another example of the depth of a scene of Minchul's is at the beach house. Remember when he walked in and she was on the floor? She looks up at him and he doesn't move and doesn't say a word. He stands silently before her in the semi-darkened room, alone, just the two of them. He knows he loves her but he never stoops down or reaches out to her and he never helps her up. But he's looking at her. What he is doing is waiting to see if she'll come to him. He knows what he wanted out of this night but he isn't sure what Yonsoo wants. He lets her make the move. This was an important scene, it was to finalize the emotions between Minchul and Yonsoo. Taking them a step further, showing their meaning to each other. The director was very clever with this remembering Yonsoo's personality type. There was nothing hot and frantic going on between the two at this moment. It was slow and thought out and meaningful, all by Minchul's lead. Minchul is there for the taking. He was game. When she stands up and faces him he knew. Minchul looks at her and with his hand, he feels her face all over while he's gazing at each part he's touching. I always called this his "studying her face." Maybe a better phrase would be his "seducing her." What is just a common before the kiss touch, Minchul easily turns it into an intimate connection from him to her. He does this in the way he looks every inch of her face over. Such an interesting technique! Great acting...or was it acting??

I'll be back...
