K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)

Smoochie, so that was a preview at the end of that episode! I never realized that. And I do remember Sunjae saying he wanted money. I thought the voice didn't sound like Minchul's but I think I had a senior moment. I thought it could be his voice because I knew Minchul was rich. LOL My senior moment...he's not rich anymore.

I like how you give Sunjae the benefit of the doubt about letting the others go see Yonsoo while he stays behind to "comfort" Minchul. I wish I could feel the same way. I don't know...the way Sunjae spoke to Minji by telling her how to behave in front of Yonsoo bothers me a bit. I know it's nice to be caring for Yonsoo at this time but I can still see Sunjae wanting to call the shots, as if she's still HIS woman or something. His concern doesn't sit well with me. It would and could be fine, maybe, but Sunjae doesn't go in to visit Yonsoo immediately because he wants to tell Minchul how to react in front of Yonsoo. Does Minchul really need Sunjae to tell him how to behave in front of his own wife, the woman he loves? Minchul has done quite well without Sunjae's input all along. He tells Minji how to behave and tells Minchul to take care of himself so he can take care of Yonsoo. I don't know...

Hey Jasy, I'm trying to be nice here!! emoticon I know you're never going to get over Sun Jae's past behavior and now you've flipped me back over to your way of thinking. So you're right, he's still controlling. emoticon So funny!! I'm such a weakling in the face of reason.

K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)

Good Morning BD,

LOL It's just that I don't find anything comforting in Sunjae's words to Minji or Minchul. Minji, who just found out needs a few moments to cry, wouldn't you think? And what's with Sunjae telling Minchul that many guardians pass out taking care of patients? Why plant doubts in Minchul's mind about caring for Yonsoo? I think Sunjae wants both Minji and Minchul to be strong for Yonsoo and not show any crying or hopelessness. Is it his business? What's so wrong if Minchul takes Yonsoo in his arms and they both cry together? What's so wrong for Yonsoo seeing her husband scared? It is what it is and Yonsoo knows what it is.

LBH played his part very convincing as an actor. From the moment of him sitting in the hallway to speaking to Yonsoo and then Sunjae this actor shows his many sides of despair. His frightened and aloneness in the hallway, his quiet subdued self to Yonsoo and his slight opening up to Sunjae about his feelings of hopelessness. Every scene by LBH is played to perfection, he has totally emerged himself into Minchul.

It was interesting to see as sick as Yonsoo is how she tries to sooth Minchul with an everyday type conversation. Mentioning her father-in-law's being shocked takes the focus off her if only for seconds. Speaking of the others and telling him not to inform them the next time she is in my opinion letting Minchul know there will be a next time and she'll come through that time okay too, no need to upset everybody. Though Minchul realizes she's making light of it when she tells him she's still here, he's devastated anyway.

The one good thing Sunjae told Minchul was when he said Minchul's presence gives Yonsoo strength. That is true. This latest incident has resulted in Minchul's taking a good look into Yonsoo's reality. He doesn't like what he sees and he is feeling hopeless and useless. Minchul can only feel good when he is doing something good to help Yonsoo. There is nothing he can do now except pray. And he does pray.

For Yonsoo, all she had to do was look at Minchul's face and body language and she knew he was having a hard time. She smiles at him and reasures him by talking normally about Sunchun and the others. She tells him she's still here. She tells him to go home and rest. But her emotions fail her too when he leaves the room, her eyes are filled with tears.

Here we have two people very much in love and each trying to be brave for the other. I think this could result in Minchul and Yonsoo feeling too alone though. Somehow it makes it all feel worse. I think it's best to hold each other and cry their hearts out and when they're all done, encourage each other that they can get through this. Regardless of the statistics. These scenes are so sad and Minchul's reactions are so realistic that you feel his pain every step of the way.

I'll be back with more and I hope it's all good from here on out.

Good Morning BD Family emoticon

Jasy, I think Min Chul is so despondent at this point that he has a hard time covering it up when he goes into Yon Soo's room. He was terrified that he'd lost her. I don't know how much he knows about this disease and what to expect. Sun Jae, if he really wanted to help, could have a doctor friend talk to him and advise him on what to look forward to in the future. Coming from Sun Jae it seems a little self serving. At least Min Chul could be prepared for the next time. You're right about the isolation they must feel being alone in this. A good cry together could clear the air and then they could move on together to take action against her illness.

The subway ride shows Min Chul at his loneliest. He has nowhere to go with this. He's supposed to be her hero and he wants to be, but he's too aware of his limitations and that's what's killing him. He can't do anything for her, but be there. He doesn't know that's possibly the one thing that gets her through, but he wants to do more than just comfort her. He wants to save her life. He wants to cure her. So he feels useless. Min Chul, the Min Chul we know is a man of determination and action. He's decisive and cool and driven to succeed. This Min Chul is starting to feel beaten, before the real fight and Yon Soo is the one trying to take away his fears. She tells him she's still here. She tells him "next time", because she knows there probably will be a next time and she doesn't want him to be so shocked if and when it happens again.

These two have a network of people around them, but seem so alone. They are everything to each other. Its very, very sad. emoticon

I'll be back.

Later emoticon

Re: K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)

Good Morning BD Family emoticon

Everyone of Yon Soo's little network has been tested for a match. They're out recruiting others to be tested. Min Ji goes to her art class, where Yon Soo is the teacher, and asks her classmates to be tested. Narae goes to Min Chul's office and gets everyone to agree to be tested. The only holdout, Team Manager, has to be guilted into it, but in the end, she agrees to do it too.

Sun Jae leaves the hospital with possibly good news. He goes to Narae and Sena to share it. Sena may be a match!! Narae and Sena are very grateful and thank God. They're smiling and hugging. Narae says, Sena and Yon Soo have some fate. Even siblings marrow doesn't always match. But, the final results will take a few weeks. Narae asks will Yon Soo be cured after the transplant? Sun Jae, ever the pragmatic, is honest and says that's not always the case. The transplant may fail and the recurrence rate is very high. Narae and Sena look disappointed and scared again. Sun Jae seeing he's burst their bubble, tells them that having a transplant at all is a blessing and they all have to pray the results are good. Narae and Sena immediately fall to their knees and we hear Narae praying, "I beg of you. Bless us with this miracle."

Yon Soo is out of the hospital and sitting by the water with Sena and Narae. Its a pretty day. Narae's asking Yon Soo if she's feeling better. She says a person is like a flower, you need sunlight to be happy and strong. Yon Soo is quiet. Sena asks if its difficult for her. She says Yon Soo doesn't want to see them or talk to them on the phone. Narae says, Min Chul said she feels better, but she looks so dispirited. She wants to know what Yon Soo is thinking. Yon Soo says she's never been happier in her life. She has the love of her life, who loves her back, a family who worries about her and a nice sister. But, she's sad. She's so happy she doesn't want to let go of this happiness. She wants things to stay the same, but she gets angry for getting sick. She's afraid she'll ruin this happiness. She realizes she's made Narae and Sena worry and tells them she's sorry. They should talk about something cheerful.

Narae can't take it anymore. She's been warned not to tell Yon Soo about Sena's marrow as a possible match, but she says she doesn't care, she's going to tell her. Sena tries to stop her, but Narae's mind is made up. She tells Yon Soo she doesn't have to be sad. Sena's going to save her. Sena looks away, annoyed that she told Yon Soo. Yon Soo asks what does she mean. Sena's still trying to stop Narae. She reminds her that Sun Jae said not to tell her until its confirmed. Narae says that Yon Soo's so depressed and feeling sorry for herself that Sena should tell her. Sena relents and tells Yon Soo that her marrow may be a match and they're doing the tests right now. Yon Soo is surprised and asks, really? Narae asks if she's still depressed. Yon Soo asks Sena would she really do this for her. Sena teasingly says, maybe she shouldn't. Yon Soo warns her that it'll be painful. Sena says she has no choice. If she doesn't do it Sun Jae and Narae will hate her for the rest of her life. She tells Yon Soo to be nice to her, because God takes the pretty ones first. The mood has changed for these three. There's hope. Every one's smiling.

Min Chul and Yon Soo are in bed. They're snuggled up, her head on his shoulder, him stroking her hair. She tells him how excited she is that she might be getting a transplant. She tells him its like hanging a stocking and waiting for Santa. Min Chul tells her he hears recovery is difficult. She says she can bear anything to get her health back. Every one's trying so hard for her, that's the least she can do. Min Chul is very quiet. He's afraid of her having her hopes crushed. He tells her he's confident she can make it. She asks how long does he think recovery will take, six months, a year? He says it depends on the individual. She's confident that she'll get better really fast. She read that the younger you are, the faster the recovery. She tells him she's young and more important she has him. He gives her a pat on the shoulder and a small smile.

She asks what's the first thing they should do when she recovers. Should they take a second honeymoon? He tells her, he'd love to. She tells him she wants to continue drawing and to support Min Ji, so they can both become artists and have exhibits together. She says she'll be forever grateful to Narae, Sun Jae and Sena for what they've done for her. She wants to live thanking everyone. Its like getting a new life. She thinks she can live as a better person.

Min Chul hasn't said much of anything so far. She looks up at him and says he doesn't seem too enthused. He tells her they don't have the final results yet. He just doesn't want her to be disappointed. She tells him not to worry, everything will be fine. She says its Sena's marrow. She's certain its a gift from God. He pats her shoulder again and pulls her closer to him and tells her he's sure she's right.

I see these scenes as role reversal. Sena being the mature one here, doesn't want to give Yon Soo false hope and Narae, who should know better says what she's been specifically asked not to say. Yon Soo is of course very grateful for even a glimmer of a chance to be cured and grabs onto that hope and keeps it close to her heart.

Min Chul has been there trying to be her strength from the moment he knew about her illness. He's been positive and has tried to make her feel postive. I think his shock at seeing how sick she can be, has taken some of the wind out of him. He's still her strength and always will be. He'll never let her see his fear. But, he's very fearful. Yon Soo on the other hand has become the positive one. Min Chul is worried about that, because he sees how hopeful she is and is scared of the outcome. What if the marrow doesn't match? His heart will be broken for her. Her heart will be broken. She's begun making life plans. She's allowing herself to dream again.

I'll be back. emoticon

K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)

Good Morning BD,

I thought it was really jumping the gun to tell Yonsoo about Sena's real possibility of being a match. I know Narae wanted to put her at ease and make her feel better but the only problem with that is if there isn't a match, the letdown will be even harder. That's just the way it is. I'm also taken aback by Narae's telling. I would think that it would have been Minchul's place to decide to tell her or not. Narae, meaning only good intentions for her friend got caught up in the moment of seeing Yonsoo's depression. But what has she done? Has she given Yonsoo false hope? Sena was absolutely right in not wanting her to know yet.

I see Minchul as being fearful too. He wasn't the one who told Yonsoo about the possible match. He was absorbed in waiting for that phone call first. He tells her they haven't gotten the final results yet, he doesn't want her to be disappointed. That's a biggie. The feeling of lost hope and a big letdown that will surely come if the news is bad, well Minchul wants to avoid that for Yonsoo. Minchul sees the need for taking this one step at a time and he's right. The possibility of not being a match coming true will be very depressing and scary.

Sena and Narae are home waiting by the phone for the results that should be announced today. Narae wants to know why Sunjae isn't calling. I'm guessing the result will be told to Sunjae, the self declared in-house doctor. Narae is beside herself and can't take the suspense. She's calling him. Sena grabs the phone back and tells her Sunjae will call.

Yonsoo's at home with her cell phone in her hands, she too is waiting for that call. It's 5 o'clock and the workday is over. She looks at her wedding photo of her and Minchul. She's sitting on the floor and is very, very quiet and anxious.

At the same time Minchul is in his office sitting at his desk. He glances at his wedding photo, then his eyes look straight ahead. This usually very cool in charge man is having a rough time waiting. His hands are folded in front of him. There must be a thousand thoughts running through his mind right now. He must be praying. He doesn't move a muscle. He can't.

Minchul's phone rings and he answers saying it's him. And then he listens. He listens never saying a word for close to a minute. He stares straight ahead. The music begins. Just by looking at his face I know what the message is. Minchul reacts by not reacting. He looks frozen in the moment. His world has stopped. His hopes have been dashed. His prayers have not been answered. How will he tell Yonsoo?

At home, Sena and Narae are crying. They've also been told the bad news. Narae asks if there's no possibility at all? Sena yells at her that she told her not to say anything. Yonsoo will be devastated. Sena wants to know what they will do now. They're both crying. Sena picks up a framed photo and begins crying harder when she looks at it. Narae puts her arms around Sena and they cry in each others arms.

This is all so sad. I'm glad the writers spared us from seeing Sunjae's first reaction to this news. I'm glad we just don't see him. Has he been elevated to doctor status or something here...I'm assuming and I'm probably right that he is the one who relayed the stunning news. The writers show everybody crying or upset but not Sunjae. Interesting...

Minchul, after hearing the news has reached his apartment and is walking very slowly towards it. He stops just before the doors and looks up at his window. He has to face Yonsoo now. How can he do this? What can he say when his own hopes were dashed? What can he say to make her feel hopeful and at ease when he doesn't feel it? How can he make her hope again?

Before the doors, Minchul stands. He's thinking really hard. He does that little jerk movement with his body, that shoulder/body thing that's always a picture of what he's going through, what he's feeling at the moment. His shoulder twitches, he swallows hard, he breathes out and looks down at the ground. Still standing in the same spot, he turns around. He knows he can't go in. He tried to muster up the courage but his body lets him down. He can't handle this right now until he straightens himself out first. He has to be brave for his Yonsoo and he isn't feeling brave right now. He slowly walks away.

Minchu has walked over to the playground I believe it is. The camera man focuses only on Minchul's face. He is crying. Very hard. Minchul's hand is covering his mouth trying to hold in his sobs to no avail. Tears are rolling down his face and he's crying his heart out. The music is still playing. His hopes have betrayed him. Minchul is devastated...

I'm back because I forgot to talk about something that I think is important here. Was that Sunjae's voice we hear on the other end of the line calling Minchul at his office? Could you tell smoochie? Or was it a real doctor?

We see Sena and Narae being told about the possible match by Sunjae first, as soon as he leaves the hospital. Shouldn't he have told Minchul first?

Earlier, Minji, Sena and Narae are shown giving blood. Almost right after that, Minchul is on the subway when he gets a phone call. Either he couldn't hear because of the crowded subway noise or they got disconnected. Who was calling him? The real doctor? Sunjae? Why did the writers make this phone call a point to be shown when there was no connect? Could a possible match by Sena be realized so quickly? Is this what Minchul's call about?

Regardless, if it were Sunjae calling him, he didn't bother to wait and call again before telling Sena and Narae. What is the protocol, the rules of conduct for spilling the beans like Sunjae did? There has to be a protocol since Sunjae acts like he's Yonsoo's doctor. No? Was Sunjae acting the doctor or as a friend in telling Sena and Narae? It's my opinion since up to this point he's been acting the doctor so he should behave like a doctor, he should know the spouse should only have been told.

It looks to me like a scene has been cut. After Sena and Narae are told, we see Minchul waiting by the phone to see if there is a match of Sena's marrow. So we have Sunjae telling Sena and Narae, Narae tells Yonsoo, and next scene is Minhcul in bed with Yonsoo discussing it. And judging by Minchul's subdued reactions to Yonsoo's excitment, Minchul would not have told her just yet. So right to the end, Sunjae still makes me mad because he's such a busybody.

I wanted to say that the first picture of LBH is a really good one smoochie. They all are great but that first one is especially good...

Re: K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)

Good Morning BD Family emoticon

Every one's waiting nervously. As I'm watching this, I see the clock says 5:05PM. The end of the work day. I know its horrible news to have to share, but every one's on pins and needles here!!

How did Sena become the sensible one? I know how much Narae loves Yon Soo, but her judgement has been impaired. Sena's smart enough to not to call Sun Jae.

Min Chul is sitting at his desk, looking at his and Yon Soo's wedding photo, hands clasped in front of him, possibly praying. I don't know. His whole body is tense. He's waiting for the phone to ring. When it does, its Sun Jae with bad news. How do we know its bad? Because LBH is a very fine actor and purveys it with his body language and facial expressions. We see him at attention, listening. His body is rigid, his eyes staring, listening intently. We see his eyes change first and then his body looks like the wind was knocked out of it. Lastly the look in his eyes has changed to sadness and defeat. Every thing's right there. Without one word spoken.

Sena and Narae are next on Sun Jae's call list. They've gotten the bad news too. Sena tells Narae they shouldn't have told Yon Soo and is very upset. I know Narae surely regrets it now. They're holding each other, crying.

Min Chul arrives in front of his house and is hesitant to go in. He doesn't know how to face Yon Soo. He's having a very tough time pulling himself together. He can't let her see the hopelessness he feels right now. She can't see how scared he is for her. He needs to console her in a positive way. He knows that. But, Min Chul doesn't feel positive, so how can he pull it off?

He finally sits outside. He cries for Yon Soo and how empty and lost she must feel. I cried with him. He looks so beaten and inconsolable. He cries for a long time. Finally giving in to his grief for the first time. He knows what they'll have to face together. His sorrow is palpable. emoticon

This one scene is, to me, the most touching in this whole drama. LBH is stellar here. Every time I see it, I cry again. He's so on target and I don't know what he calls up to be able to pull that off. Just quiet and desolate. Sobbing into his hand, tears running down his face. Just the very best. emoticon

Min Chul has come face to face with the reality of what he can and cannot do for Yon Soo. He can be there at her side, he can love her, he can give her hope, he can support her, he can make her laugh. But, he can't save her. I know he feels helpless. He wanted to be her hero. He doesn't feel like a hero anymore. He needs to wake up to the fact that Yon Soo sees him as her hero, nevertheless. Aside from all of the bad things happening to her, having Min Chul there definitely helps her to face it all. He doesn't feel that's enough. She knows its what gets her through.

I have to go now, but I'll be back. emoticon
