K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)
Good Morning BD,
Smoochie, you've outdone yourself again! I hope you have a really good picture you're saving for the end. LOL I know you haven't discussed Minchul and Yonsoo's scene at home yet and I'm game but I thought I'd go on to add Sunjae and Sena's scene at the river and then we can backtrack if you want.
Standing at the river are Sunjae and Sena. She's drinking a lot and he tells her to slow down. Sena thinks he must be so upset and so is she. She says this was the first good thing she could have done for Yonsoo and now she can't even do that. Sena tells him that they say God takes away the good ones first and asks Sunjae if he thinks it's true? If it's true, he'll take Yonsoo for sure. Sena starts to cry.
Sunjae says he doesn't believe that, if God takes away all the good people, the world would be a desolate place and he won't let that happen.
Sena asks him if he talked to Yonsoo. He has not. He couldn't bring himself to tell her. If he talked to her, he thinks he'd have lied. Sunjae says that Minchul is the one who has to carry the burden in the end. That's a strange way of looking at it in my opinion. If you asked Minchul if Yonsoo was a "burden" I'm sure he would say she is not. What else could the "burden" be that Sunjae is talking about if not Yonsoo's illness? And this illness is a part of Yonsoo and Minchul knew it going in. Minchul's having a hard time because he can't help Yonsoo right now. Sunjae says he and Sena can keep their distance and avoid telling her but Minchul can't do that. He says whether good or bad, Minchul has to share it with Yonsoo, he has to be there for her when she goes through the pain. Sunjae says it'll be very difficult. Sena gives him a little smile and tells hm that now he's starting to understand Minchul. Sunjae tells her he has no choice, before, they never thought on the same level, "we always had our backs to each other, but no longer." Sunjae says that they both feel the pain and hope for Yonsoo and he knows what it's like for him now. Sunjae has tears rolling down his face.
The "burden" comment gets to me. I don't think anybody wants to feel like a burden least of all, Yonsoo. That's why she didn't want to marry Minchul for a while back then. Minchul let her know she wasn't a burden and he wanted to be with her no matter what. He's having a hard time right now because he can't do anything for her and he's hurting for her. She's his soul. I doubt he feels like it's a burden being with her in her illness. He has too much love for her. He'll never let her go through this alone. I don't think Minchul is thinking about himself right now, it's Yonsoo all the way and how to help her through this.
I'll be back...

Re: K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)
Good Morning Again
I am going to back track. Mainly because I misunderstood the first time I watched this scene.
Min Chul gets home and cries his heart out before he goes in. He knows what he faces once he sees Yon Soo and he doesn't want her to see his fear and sorrow.
He goes into their room and Yon Soo gets up to greet him. He sits her back down and sits beside her. He doesn't really look at her. Instead he looks at the blank canvas on her easel. He asks, "You didn't paint?" She says she couldn't. Usually time flies when she paints, but today she couldn't. He looks at her for the first time now, but looks away quickly when she looks at him. She becomes quiet and Min Chul' hands are fidgety. He rests his chin on his hand, his face doesn't give anything away, but Yon Soo looks at him after a moment and asks, isn't he going to ask her the results. He looks at her quickly and looks away again. She asks if Sun Jae called him. He still doesn't look at her right away, or answer her. His silence lets her know, he knows.
He finally looks at her and grabs both of her hands in his hand. He tells her he's heard leukemia patients go through many such episodes. Some of them do find a match and the donor refuses to give. He tells her to think of this as a test and a chance to prepare her mind. Her disappointment is written all over her face. He's holding onto her hands and we see his frustration when he tells her, he wishes he could give her his marrow. Matter of fact, not just his marrow but his whole body. She sees his sadness at not being able to do more and tells him its okay. She says there are people in worse condition than she is and are in agony with it. She says she was being greedy. She admits she was hopeful while waiting for the results.
Min Chul tells her he's hungry, he hasn't had dinner. She tells him she'll get it for him, but he tells her, he'll manage. Once he leave the room, he lets his breath out and we see his utter disappointment for her written all over his face. He's put on the best show he could for her, but it was for her. There's really no good way to talk about this. He's as lost as she is.
Initially I thought Yon Soo heard the news from Sun Jae, just like he told everyone else. Yon Soo has been sitting all day with her phone in her hand waiting for that call. I don't know why he called everyone but Yon Soo. In my opinion, if he didn't want to be the one to break the news to her, the only call he should have made was to Min Chul, so he could be prepared for the worst when he got home. He should have NOT called Sena and Narae. That should have been left to Yon Soo and Min Chul's discretion. That could have waited until Yon Soo and Min Chul had time to absorb the bad news.
I'm still not sure how Yon Soo got the results, but I have to think hospital personnel, or her doctor called her. Or she called them. This wasn't clear to me, until she asked Min Chul wasn't he going to ask her the results. That's what let me know, that she knew.
Seems that Sena has come to the realization that she does have a debt to pay Yon Soo. At least she knows how much Yon Soo did for her. Yon Soo didn't do it for anything, but her love of the unlovable Sena. She didn't expect any payment, except for Sena to get on the right track and be happy.
Sun Jae's use of the word burden irritated me too. Min Chul has never seen Yon Soo as a burden. He see his own uselessness as a burden. He wants to save her and he can only be there. That's enough for Yon Soo. That's what keeps her going. It frustrates Min Chul not to be able to do more. Its getting harder and harder for him to put on a confident face for her, but she's a burden? NO!
I think Sun Jae wants Min Chul to feel that way, so he could think he'd be the right one at her side. I think he always likes to remind Min Chul of how hard it is. He's said that to Min Chul a few times already. And it is hard. But, its like he's saying, "I told you so." He should know, he'd be just as useless and then even more so, because Yon Soo wouldn't want him there. She'd be pining for Min Chul. That's who has to be there for her, as hard as it is. The only hard part for Min Chul is his own inability to do more for her. Like he said, he'd giver her his whole body if he could.
At least he's come to terms with the fact that Yon Soo and Min Chul are a married couple and they have to share this time together. Its none of his business and he has to stay out of it.
I'm going to go now, but I'll be back.
Later

K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)
Good Morning BD,
Actually I did read your post yesterday smoochie but the pictures steered me another way. I have to say that I'm in agreement that Sunjae had no business telling Sena and Narae the news, at least not at that moment. He sounded like a busy body first spreading unfounded good news than the bad news. Minchul was at work when Sunjae called him and he hadn't even gotten home yet with a chance to talk to Yonsoo before Sunjae spouts off his mouth to Sena and Narae. All of a sudden they're his buddies. Hah! All the more Yonsoo got hurt because of it, it raised her hopes then dashed them to the lowest point in the end. All because Sunjae has a big mouth.
I also think Sena feels she owes Yonsoo in some way. This was her chance but it doesn't pan out for her. She's devastated. You know that old saying, you don't know what you have until you lose it or something like that. Sena is definitely going through these feelings now. The letdown is so much bigger if that's possible because it's hit Sena personally. Sunjae gave her false hope when he spilled the beans that she might be a match. And then Yonsoo was told. Sunjae's big mouth didn't do anybody a bit of good. Minchul was the only sensible one again. As always.
Do you realize that because of Sunjae, everything Minchul went through, his crying alone and getting up the nerve to face Yonsoo was all entirely because of Sunjae? We can tell that because Minchul's whole little talk with her after he came to his senses was about rejection, how leukemia patients go through this and sometimes the matched donor won't give and that this is just a test. This conversation wouldn't need to be said if Sunjae kept quiet.
Now we don't know for sure but the real doctor may have called her and told her there was a possible match from Sena. She was waiting by the phone for a result all day. But she could have been waiting by the phone for any match to be called in to her. We don't really know. Maybe the call was to inform her that there was no match among any of her aquaintances who went for testing. But we know that Narae and Sena told her about Sena's possible match. So Sena has to be who she had her hopes pinned on. And it's become all the more personal with everybody knowing this. All because of Sunjae.
Yes, Sunjae always likes to remind Minchul how hard it will be. Ususally you'd give the caretaker, whether husaband or wife confidence and encouragement. I think up to this moment of the rejection, Sunjae still thought he was the one who could do best by Yonsoo. Now after the rejection of Sena's marrow, he realizes differently. He woke up. He tells Sena he couldn't bring himself to tell Yonsoo the bad news, that if he'd face her he thinks he might have lied. He admits only now that he knows what it's like for Minchul. Though it doesn't matter in the least, Sunjae for his part has failed Yonsoo in her biggest moment. He admits he couldn't face her. And here is where Minchul comes through for her again. After absorbing the awful news himself and taking a little time out, he goes to face Yonsoo and though he has a very hard time of it, he doesn't lie to her. They're both side by side hurting together. That is what Minchul has done for Yonsoo.
When is Sunjae going to take a hike already? He's so annoying...
