Re: K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)

Good Morning BD Family emoticon

What the hell happened to my pictures? emoticon You know how much I love my pictures!!

Jasy, good observation. First and foremost, Sun Jae shouldn't have shared the news with Narae and Sena about Sena being a possible match. I know he was excited, but being "almost a doctor", he should have kept his own counsel. Maybe if he'd gone all the way and became an "actual doctor", he'd have known that. The guy is a thorn in their side from the word go! What a nuisance he is. emoticon

When Min Chul approached Yon Soo that evening, he tried to act nonchalant. He was aching for her inside, but he came off as, "no big deal". We know he didn't feel that way and I have to believe Yon Soo knew that too. She knows his personality better than anyone. He couldn't even look at her and he's talking about her not painting, when she knew he was in pain for her. She had to bring up the results, he couldn't do it. I'm not sure if Sun Jae told him she knew or not. Seems Min Chul knew she knew. He knew she had to be devastated, so he tried to downplay it. Neither of them fell for his act. He did the best he could, but it was still really not enough. The reality for them sucked. He had no good news and couldn't come up with anything better than he did. I felt sorry for him.

When he left the room, he let his breath out, but I think he feels like he's failed her in some way. He feels like he doesn't have enough to give her and its killing him. He feels ineffective. Yon Soo is his life and his feeling useless showed in his saying, he'd give her his whole body, if he could. He knows he can't. They're both depressed and miserable over the bad news, but both are trying to put on a good face for the other.

In this instance, Yon Soo is holding him up, as much as he's holding her up. She gained some strength when she saw him feeling so vulnerable, in spite of his trying to be casual about it. She knows this man. She sees that she has to show him a more positive attitude, because though he's there to be her strength, he's as scared now as she is. Its interesting because, once Yon Soo realized, by his attitude how scared he was, she gained strength from that. So having Min Chul at her side worked even though he doesn't feel like her hero anymore. One way or the other he did come through for her. Even if it was just to make Yon Soo try to comfort him and put her own fears on a back burner to try to alleviate his fears.

It was sad to see them both so hopeless here. They're really alone now. I love Sun Jae telling Sena they could stay away, but its Min Chul who has to be there. Now? Now they can stay away? Maybe they could use a little comfort from someone outside the two of them. Now they're going to be isolated? Funny how he never knew enough to stay away before. This guy's timing is way off. Yon Soo needs some distraction, even now. It would probably make her feel normal to see friends, once in a while.

I have to go now, but as always, I'll be back.

Re: K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)

Good Morning BD Family emoticon

Going back for just a moment to the conversation between Sena and Sun Jae. Sena asks him if he's spoken to Yon Soo. Sun Jae admits that he couldn't bring himself to tell her. If he'd spoken to her he'd have lied. That's what he did when he initially knew about her illness. He kept the truth from Yon Soo. When she found out it was because she made a point of asking her doctor. So, he'd lie? Does he think that's the way to help her? Again its all about what's good for him and not really about Yon Soo.

This is where he says Min Chul has to carry the burden in the end. They can keep their distance and avoid telling her, but he can't. So this is what Min Chul's good for, according to Sun Jae. When times get hard and it becomes a burden its Min Chul's turn. Whether good or bad he has to share it with Yon Soo. He has to be there when she goes through the pain. It'll be very difficult. Sena says now he's finally starting to understand Min Chul.

I somehow feel, and maybe I'm wrong, that Sun Jae almost wants Min Chul to fail in being any comfort to Yon Soo. He knows how strong Min Chul is and I think he's resented, over the years, Min Chul's cool and confident demeanor. I think he's always resented Min Chul being unfazed by any difficulty. How no matter what happened at work or at home, he was able to take charge and make it right, without falling apart. He never let anyone see him sweat. He just handled it. Even their father, who terrified Sun Jae, didn't make Min Chul flinch.

Its different now with the love of his life, possibly dying. Min Chul is showing signs of vulnerability and fear. He's never done that before. Sun Jae never forgets to mention to him how hard this is. Min Chul knows its hard, so why keep saying this? I have to believe that Sun Jae wants the best for Yon Soo. I also have to believe that he gets a little twinge of satisfaction in seeing Min Chul so weakened by his own shortcomings. Sun Jae's lucky enough to have the option of staying away from Yon Soo now. He's more than happy to place, what he calls a burden, right into Min Chul's lap. The thing he doesn't get is that Min Chul doesn't see it as a burden. To him Yon Soo is him and he's her. They are one. Though he's feeling almost hopeless right now, he would no more leave her side than cut out his own heart. Sun Jae's the one who's turned tail and run away when things got tough. Just imagine what would've happened if Min Chul hadn't come back into her life when he did. If she'd had only Sun Jae the wimp for support.

I have to go now, but I'll be back to talk more. emoticon

K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)

Good Morning BD,

It's interesting to me that Sunjae shows his inability to face Yonsoo with the truth. And yes, I forgot that Sunjae didn't tell her the truth of her illness at the beginning either. Even when she asked. He rightly so was happy when he thought Sena was a match for her but disappeared out of Yonsoo's radar when the news turned out bad for her. Personally, I'm glad he backed off because it's none of his business unless Yonsoo or Minchul ask him to make it his business. But at the same time, I see that Sunjae was only near her when there was hope and when that hope got dashed, he's out of there and I don't care the reason.

It was appalling to me when Sunjae told Narae and Sena that they can keep their distance but Minchul can't. Minchul never wanted to keep his distance, that's why he married her in sickness and in health. Is Sunjae thinking maybe Minchul is regretting now, that by marrying her he asked for it? After all, Sunjae "warned" him. And now in Sunjae's eyes Minchul has the burden. I'm surprised he said this out loud and I'm really surprised Narae didn't call him on it. There couldn't be a better man by Yonsoo's side right now, he's right beside her, he's not going anywhere.

Good pictures smoochie! They had a lot of fun posing for those.

K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)

We've been away too long smoochie. But at the same time I hate to see this drama come to its end. It's just too good...the story...LBH...Minchul...Yonsoo...

Minchul is on the subway when his phone rings. The caller asks if he's Yonsoo's guardian. Yes he is. The hospital is calling but it's a poor connection though he does hear that it's from the hospital. Minchul can't hear a thing now. The camera zooms in on Minchul's eyes. We know why the camera man always does that. His eyes tell his story. They dart around, he looks up, is this the all important call? Minchul looks very anxious right now.

The first stop the subway makes, Minchul gets off. His phone rings again. Another bad connection. He can barely hear if at all. He asks that they repeat what was just said to him. He has to ask over and over and finally Minchul hears "we found a marrow match for Kim Yon-soo. You should come to the hospital now to get tested."

The look on Minchul's face! His breathing gets heavy. The music begins. He races up a long staircase. Once at the top, he dials Yonsoo's number. His face shows a bit of relief and new found hope. He tells Yonsoo the good news.

Minchul and Yonsoo are sitting across from the doctor now. He's holding her hands as the doctor tells them they received a call from the marrow bank in Japan. Yonsoo clenches her hand. The doctor says it's not a perfect match and that means the risk is greater. A transplant's the best option for patients with chronic leukemia but he can't recommend it strongly in Yonsoo's case. With those words, Yonsoo has a look of worry on her face once again. The doctor tells them to consider the options carefully before making a decision. Minchul squeezes Yonsoo's hands even tighter.

Out in the hallway sits Narae, Sena and Sunjae. All very worried. Sena is thinking aloud, she says God is too cruel and she wonders if he gambled on a person's life. Narae says that Yonsoo's too softhearted to make the decision. She thinks Minchul will end up making it for her. She says Minchul must feel lost and frustrated. Sunjae is quiet. Sena asks Sunjae what he would do if he were in Minchul's shoes? Sunjae really doesn't know.

I'm wondering how these three found out about the match not being a perfect match when Minchul and Yonsoo just now heard it from the doctor's mouth. All these little mysteries here and there. I suppose Sunjae still has his connections. Funny though that he is pretty near speechless.

Back at home, sitting on the bed face to face are Minchul and Yonsoo. His hands are on her knees and he's thought deeply about what he's about to say to her. "I've been thinking and ..." Yonsoo puts her fingers over his mouth and tells him to please not say anything. She wants to decide on her own. Yonsoo explains that if he were to decide for her, she'd follow it "but one in a million, if something does go wrong, you'll regret it and blame yourself the rest of your life. This is why I want to make the decision." Yonsoo wants to be responsible for her own outcome.

Minchul never takes his eyes off of her as she speaks. As he says her name aloud, Yonsoo quickly tells him she'll go through with the transplant. She has quickly taken back the burden she thinks Minchul must feel right now. But Minchul doesn't feel that way at all as we all know. In any case, she tells him she will trust her fate. She says she lived this far without parents and she was so lucky to have met him, he who loves her. Yonsoo feels positive that she has good fate. Minchul nods ever so slightly. He looks a bit concerned and worried.

Yonsoo asks Minchul if he trusts her decision. His eyes are looking down and he gives another little nod. He is very silent. I think he is hurting for her so bad and it's such a terribly serious matter that he can barely converse with her right now. He reaches for her with one arm and pulls her close to him in a hug. LBH plays these parts so well, doesn't he smoochie? I think they're made especially for him. LOL Still looking downwards with his eyes, his fingers move along her shoulder as he pulls her even closer to him. Their music is playing. Minchul puts his other arm around her and he closes his eyes. He lowers his head into her shoulder. His other hand now holds the back of her head...

Hello BD Family emoticon

Sorry I've been missing for so long, but family stuff to deal with. Jasy, thanks for carrying on without me. I promise I'll be back in a day or two.

Min Chul and the phone call on the subway, was well directed and well acted. Very realistic. I remember hearing the train pulling into the station and thinking, "Oh no!"

I'll be back to talk more.

Re: K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)

Good Morning BD Family emoticon

I love that Yon Soo made her own decision about the transplant. She knew that no matter what decision Min Chul made for her, one way or the other, he'd always feel responsible if something went wrong. She removed that burden from his shoulders. I think it was Narae who thought Yon Soo wouldn't be able to decide and would leave it in Min Chul's hands. She was wrong.

Yon Soo gets her strength from Min Chul. During this whole time of waiting and hoping, Yon Soo learned to put on a brave face for him. She knew he wanted to do everything he could for her, but she also knew his limits. It pained her to see the sad and hopeless look in his eyes when he realized he couldn't save her with only his heart.

I think it took a lot of courage on Yon Soo's part to tell Min Chul the decision was hers. He didn't try to argue the point. He respected her wishes. I think he'd have said no to the transplant, if it were left up to him. I think he'd see it as too dangerous and would want to wait for a better match. Yon Soo convinced him by telling him how good her fate had been up to now. She had a very positive argument in favor of the transplant.

We see Yon Soo packing a box of personal belongings. She packs her portrait of Min Chul with loving care and packs their wedding picture on top. She caresses Min Chul's face tenderly. She covers the box and puts a sticky note on top which says, "Send to Narae". She's preparing in case of a bad outcome to her transplant. She wants to spare Min Chul the agony of having to see these things if the worst happens. Once done, she sits alone and weeps.

She's sitting in a cafe, in the next scene, waiting for Sun Jae. He sees her through the window and stops for a moment to look at her and he looks sad at her appearance. He greets her in a more upbeat way. He tells her the sun will rise in the west tomorrow, because she asked to see him. He asks her the date and she says she goes in tomorrow. He'd heard she chose to have the transplant. He tells her to have courage. She asks if he's doing well, he says he is. She asks about his work with Sena. He says she's very dedicated. Yon Soo wants to see her on stage again. He tells her by the time she recovers she'll see Sena everywhere.

She says she has one request, that he be happy. She tells him only if he's happy she can look at him without guilt. She asks him to promise to be happy. Sun Jae's holding back tears, but he promises. This sounds like "good-by" to him. He gives her a gift of the song that he wrote. He says its a promise that she'll survive. He drives her home and she thanks him for the ride. He tells her he was happy she wanted to see him.

The next scene is with her and Min Chul. Its very touching and I'm not going to do it now. I want to watch it again before I talk about it.

I have to say the makeup here is excellent. Yon Soo does look pale and wan in these scenes. She's also very beautiful.

These scenes to me are Yon Soo tying up loose ends. We know she's terrified, but she's trying to take care of the people she loves and is putting up a good front for them. She never lets Min Chul see her fear. She wants this to be as easy as possible on him. But, no matter how hard she tries, Min Chul is terrified with her.

We're almost at the end now. The next couple of scenes are heartrending. The acting is so great in these next few minutes. I want to take my time to get it just right.

I'm going to really miss this drama. emoticon

Let me add, the camera work when Min Chul was on the subway was stupendous. The shot of Min Chul's eyes was the best. The camerman held that shot for a long time and was right to do it. Nothing speaks quite like LBH's eyes. Perfect! emoticon

I'll be back. emoticon

K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)

Good Morning,

I also think Minchul would have said no to the transplant. I think he may have been really worried if it all went wrong and worse, if she died. He'd rather wait for the sure thing. It's just by his reaction when she told him she'd go through with it is what makes me come to my conclusion. He's very serious looking. I like that he respects her wish and just holds her close.

When Yonsoo takes the empty box down from the closet to fill it with her most precious momentos, she's crying. She places inside her drawing of Minchul and their wedding picture. Then there's framed photos of her with Sena and Narae. And it's all to be sent to Narae if anything happens to her.

I don't quite understand though. If she were not to survive her transplant, does she not want Minchul to have any reminders of her? She's giving away a drawing she made herself. I'd think he would want to keep that. And their wedding picture. By doing this, does she really think she'd be taking herself out of her husband's mind if worse comes to worse? In any case, I'm sure Minchul would open the box first before handing it on to Narae. It would be his final decision.

When Yonsoo asks Sunjae to be happy, the look on his face was not agreeing even though his words did. He says he's been alright and she's glad. She has no idea that he's been close by though on the sideline all this time and that he has known what's been going on all along.

After taking Yonsoo home and she goes inside, he pulls out the old drawing she did of her and Sena when she was a kid in the orphanage. He looks at it intently and tosses it in the passenger seat and drives off. He sees it as Yonsoo's gift to him. He must have had it in the trunk of his car all this time.

Once inside her apartment, Yonsoo is stacking Minchul's shirts. He comes home and asks what she's doing though he very well can see what she's doing. He doesn't like that she's exerting herself. She's feeling bad and guilty because she thinks she hasn't been the wife she should have been for him. Minchul immediately takes the shirts and puts them on the side. He tells her she needs to rest for tomorrow.

Yonsoo has said her goodbye to Sunjae. She's packed her most cherished things to be given to Narae. Now she is putting Minchul's clothes neatly in stacks and doing what she can for him. She is getting her house in order, perhaps for the last time. I'm sure Minchul knows this and he stops her. Instead, Minchul has her lying on the bed next to him and they talk...

This has to be a very scary moment for the both of them, both trying so hard to make the other not worry. I think it best that they just stay side by side and hold each other and talk. Exactly what Minchul is doing now. He always gets it right, doesn't he?

I'll be back...
