Re: K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)
Good Morning BD Family
It seems to be monsoon season here on the east coast. Its so depressing. Not one good hair day for so long now. I'd love to see the sun again and soon! I'm real tired of feeling soggy.
Jasy, I agree with you about Min Chul's reaction to Yon Soo's decision, but I think that as much as he's worried, he knows its her life and bottom line, her choice. Yon Soo doesn't seem to realize that its his life too. I think he'd never get over losing her at this point. Even though there's little he can do and is powerless to save her, if she died, he'd always feel as though he'd failed her. We know he did exactly what he was meant to do, be there with her and love her, but I know he'd never see it that way. Whether he'd believe it or not, he was exactly what Yon Soo needed.
I think that's why Min Chul would've waited for a sure thing, instead of going for the long shot. He wouldn't have opted for this transplant, but he will abide by and respect her decision, but not without a lot of trepidation. I feel sorry for both of them. Yon Soo for having to make such a desperate attempt to save her life and Min Chul for having to witness her desperation.
I don't know why she'd think by taking all traces of herself out of his sight, he'd be able to forget about her. If you remember, she also believed by not marrying him she could wipe herself from his memory. I don't understand these people. He thought, in the past, that by not being with her and suffering through his bad times alone, he was alleviating her suffering. Things just don't work that way if you love someone. If you love someone and they're suffering, whether you're with them or not you suffer with them, but from afar. Does she really believe that by getting rid of a few pictures, Min Chul can get over her death easier? I don't get their thinking.
Sun Jae dragging around that picture. I thought when I saw him throw it on the front seat, "where did that come from?". At least he stopped professing his love and telling her she has to live, which I found really out of place to say to a leukemia patient. Like she doesn't want to live!! He needs to tell her that!! Dweeb!!
When I saw her stacking Min Chul's shirts it reminded me of her getting Sena's clothes together before leaving the orphanage. She was making sure everything was ready for her absence. Min Chul got it and didn't want to see that. He wants her to believe she has time in the future to do such things as laundry. He puts it aside, I think, to indicate that.
The next scene with them talking is very sad and made me cry. I have to watch it again, before I'm ready to talk about it here.
I'll be back.
Later
This is worth clicking on! Only for those of us who love him.
Here they are having fun at a photo shoot, which turned out some very hot pictures. They sure are comfortable with each other, don't you think? Click on it, you'll like it.
How great does CJW look? She has to have a really good stylist, because she always looks beautiful. Stunning!!
Well, you know I have many, many pictures, but I'm going to stop here.

K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)
Good Morning BD,
Minchul is sitting beside Yonsoo now still on the floor where she was sorting hs clothes. He wants her to rest. She tells him she doesn't think there's even one day where she was a good housewife or married woman. She was confident that she could do a good job and she feels bad.
Minchul reassures her with a touch of his hand and tells her she can do all that when she recovers. She thinks she should have postponed the operation date, they're married but there are so many things they haven't done.
Minchul asks her, "such as?" Yonsoo thinks for a second and tells him they've never had a fight. He laughs at that and looks away for a second. Real seriously, he looks back at her and says he doesn't think they ever could, then he shakes his head no, "we're too much in love." It brings a smile to Yonsoo's face. She tells him that they say the more passionate the love, the fiercer the fight.
Minchul is really cute here. He nods his head with his eyes wide open as if he's learning something. "Really?" Yonsoo nods yes and says there's more. "We didn't go as a couple to any gatherings. Wives compare their husbands with other men." She's really smiling now and she's waiting for his reply.
I love the little games they play back and forth with their thoughts. Appearing deep in thought with an answer, Minchul plays along. He tells her she can't do that to other husbands. With a tilt of his head he informs her that the husbands wives will nag them to death. And he laughs.
Uh oh...Minchul has one too. He's looking intently ahead as if he's thinking how to say this. He clenches his lips for a second and without looking at Yonsoo he tells her "taking baths together." There! He said it. Without moving his head, one eyebrow goes up and he looks at her out of the corners of his eyes for her reaction. So cute! Her reaction? "Gross!" LOL Well, he tried. He tells her that married couples do that. She's speaking so softly now and looking a bit shy. She looks at him and says she doubts it. He laughs and he got a smile out of her at least.
Minchul lies down on the bed. He spreads his arm out and pats it for her to come and lay her head on his arm. As they are side by side now, he gets himself a bit more comfty with her close to him. He begins stroking her hair. They both look straight ahead as if in deep thoughts. The camera man zooms in on each of them back and forth while neither says a word.
Finally, very softly Minchul asks Yonsoo what she's thinking.
Yonsoo: When time passes, how you'll recall this day...I've been thinking of this...I hope it doesn't become a day you'll remember. I hope you'll remember this day vaguely thinking back saying I was anxious that day...I fear this day will be like a scar on your heart.
Minchul breathes deeply and still side by side "why would today leave a scar? It's a happy day. You and I will start a new life together." Yonsoo agrees with him, but I think she's agreeing FOR him. I think she feels differently but she tells him "Right. Today's a happy day, right?"
And Minchul, "Of course."
Yonsoo: I wish I could draw how I feel. The love I feel for you, how precious you are to me. I wish I could leave it all in a painting.
Minchul's eyes are filling with tears. He tells her he has that painting in his heart. Yonsoo tells him there's much more to finish and it will take long to finish. He tells her she can finish when she's back because his heart is all hers. She can come back and finish anytime. Yonsoo nods in agreement and Minchul pulls her closer and caresses her face. Their music plays. She closes her eyes very content in his arms.
This is such a sad scene but Minchul gives her the comfort she needs. Yonsoo's words are really sad, her saying out loud all the things she wishes they had done together. All her regrets. Minchul reassures her that they will still do those things but I don't know if she believes him. I don't even know if he believes himself. But he can't let her give up. And he won't give up either.
I'll be back...

Re: K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)
Good Morning BD Family
Thanks for the post on this scene, Jasy. I didn't have the heart.
This drama is coming to a close now and I'm sincerely going to miss it. I guess its the reason why its taken so long to get here. It really touched my heart how these two people had such a huge struggle to get to this point and how they've withstood it together throughout.
I've watched this again, and again I was mesmerized by the talent of these two actors. They took a scene that could have been over the top and made it subtle and heartrending all at the same time. Sometimes you watch something and don't know the affect it has on you, until all at once you realize you're crying. That's what this did to me.
Min Chul is again trying to downplay his anxiety and trying to make Yon Soo comfortable. He tells her other wives will nag their husbands if they went out as a couple among other couples. Obviously because he's such an exemplary husband, compared to others. He's teasing her to get a smile and he succeeds. He also cites taking a bath together as another thing married couple do. She laughs and says he's gross. He says, "Really, married couples do that." She's not buying it. Hopefully in the future she'll lose her timidity and try it. What could be bad about getting naked with Min Chul?
When they're lying side by side and talking, she talks about her love for him in such a specific way, its overwhelming to him. Him touching her hair, both of them looking straight ahead, his eyes filling with tears at hearing her say these words. Just perfect!! They're both in the same place, both worrying about the outcome and both trying to be hopeful for it to be a success. A perfect and powerful scene!
Her telling him she doesn't want this day to leave a scar on his heart was another one of those moments for me. His answer was exactly what it should have been. He was trying to sound positive right to the end.
There was a song that was used in some scenes in this drama as background music. It was playing in the scene where Min Chul broke up with her. Another devastating scene. The words were absolutely fitting for Yon Soo and Min Chul. The first line is, "Say goodnight, not good-bye. You will never leave my heart behind." No matter what happens the next day, Min Chul's heart will always belong to Yon Soo. She will not leave his heart behind.
Let me say, CJW is super gorgeous in this scene. LBH isn't too bad either. I love him in casual clothes. We hardly ever see him this way.
Its really hard to leave these characters. This has been a labor of love. I know I've said that before, but I really mean it.
I'd love to see these two hook up in the future to do something new. They are so great together. Probably the only hope is a movie. LBH isn't likely to do any dramas after Iris. It would be a blockbuster hit immediately. They are referred to as the Prince and Princess by Korean fans.
I'll be back.

K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)
Good Morning BD,
I'm with you smoochie on your sentiments of Beautiful Days. I could do it all over again. There is something extra special about this drama that I haven't seen in any others. It didn't hurt to have Lee Byun Hun and Choi Ji Woo star in it either. Actually it's because of them that this story is so good. Like you said, many scenes could have been done over the top but we're speaking of two great actors here. They compliment each other to the fullest and they play off each other perfectly.
Thinking back, Minchul had quite a few crying scenes. His heart has been heavy throughout most of this story and he always knew exactly how to play it. He was very interesting to watch. I guess that's what a great actor does to you. Who can forget Minchul crying in the tub and when Yonsoo held him in her arms as he cried? Remember the tears when he was driving and how the camera captured his eyes close up? You know I can go on and on.
It was great when Minchul proposed to Yonsoo inside the flower heart in the penthouse. How nervous he was! LOL The opening of all those drapes like it was the most important thing he had to do and taking that drink. I hope the writers got their due when their job was over. They deserved an award. So did the cameraman.
The music played a big part for me. There's not many TV dramas of which I end up loving the music. But this is one of them along with BB. All I have to do is put in a disc and hear that music in the beginning and I'm totally into BD. That's what the music does for me. Besides their spoken words, the words of the songs played at precise moments throughout, further what the actors are thinking. I regret not knowing Korean.
Well that's pretty funny that Yonsoo should reconsider the bathing thing. LOL And thanks for all the pictures smoochie. They added much to our summaries.
But we're not done yet, there's more to come. I'll be back...

Re: K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)
Good Morning BD Family
Jasy, you're right, the casting of these two leads couldn't be better. Both of them are on top of their game here. Everyone knows how I feel about Lee Byung Hun or they've not read my posts, so I won't gush here. CJW is at her best here too. She could've played Yon Soo differently. She was exceptional as Yon Soo. She brought her A game to Beautiful Days.
We have to remember too, the veterans. As much as I had no sympathy for Myjung, Lee Kyeong Jin played her to the hilt. Her part in this added a lot to the drama. She was outstanding. Lee Jeong Gil as Sunchun couldn't have been better. He made me despise him and I was supposed to. He was almost unrecognizable in this, compared to other dramas I've seen him in. There's something to say about seasoned actors. They're usually the backbone of any drama. Though these actors weren't part of the background. Each was important to the storyline and each came through big time.
I'll always remember the scene between Min Chul and Myjung in the garden. Where, after living together for so many years, they had a warm and heartfelt conversation for the first time. It made me wish they'd done it earlier. It would have made both their lives easier.
I caught a bit of Phoenix on MBC late last night and there was the actress who plays Narae (name?) and Min Chul's assistant (name?) hooking up again. So funny. These two are destiny.
The pictures? We'd have to do this drama about four more times for me to post all of my LBH pictures. Hey, when you're a fan, you should be a fan! That's what I think anyway. I hope everyone enjoys them, but they're mostly for me.
I'll Be back.

K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)
Good Morning BD,
Such great pictures smoochie. I don't know how I will ever let this love story go. I checked up on a few things. The screenwriter of BD, Yoon Seong hee who did a beautiful job here also did Flowers for my Life, Smile Again, Magic, Shoot for the Stars and Dating Now. Not sure if there are any more.
I also love Jung Myung ja. I've seen her in so many things and she usually plays someone's mother. I'll bet she can write a book on mothering...what not to do. She's just wonderful and so real.
For Sin Min ah, BD was her very first drama. She's a well established actress now and I love watching her in anything she does. Lee Jung Hyun, aka Sena did an historical TV drama last year. I'd pass on that...but, we have to give her a thumbs up for her interpretation of Sena. What happens to you as a child has a way of following you throughout life. This singer turned actress played her role perfectly in showing all of the insecurities an orphan might have. She played it so well, we hated her. Good job!
And are you sitting down smoochie?? Our most beloved Narae, played by Lee Yoo jin, is at this very moment appearing in Two Wives. Yup! The drama I don't care to watch and I'm sure you don't either. Before this, she hasn't done anything since 04. I'm sure she's been around on TV though, on those variety or talk shows. She's one actress I really enjoy watching.
I've read so many wonderful reviews of BD and the great acting by everyone involved. LBH, CJW and Ryu Shi Won all won awards for BD and LBH won a best actor award along with CJW who won some other special award. Of course. They were that good. Many times I described a scene of LBH's and made the observation that I didn't know if he was acting or if it were for real. That's how good he is. I've read this same thing many times about his acting by critics and they say very good things about him.
As Minchul, many times it was hard to separate the character from LBH and that's because his emotional transition of his character is done with such ease. He plays off his different emotional expressions just by a little facial expression or a small gesture. It's been wonderful watching him and what he does with his character. Up and coming actors should take note.
I'll be back...

Re: K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)
Good Morning Again
You remember The actress playing My Jung as Jaeok in BB. She was great as Jongnam's mother in that. I think she's exceptional as the sad, misguided and guilt ridden stepmother in BD. She made me so disgusted with her character and left me with little sympathy for her. That was until her scene with Min Chul in the garden. To his credit, LBH made me feel sad for her, finally, by his treatment of this scene. His understanding and sadness for her, made me feel what he felt. Both performances in this scene were stellar. You've gotta hand it to them, fine acting is fine acting.
Lee Yoo Jin, (Narae) sometimes stole the scene. She's so natural and good in everything I've seen her in. We see her again and again in supporting roles. Why hasn't anyone come up with a part for her that shows her skills. She's a talented actress in her own right. You're right, I'm not going to watch Two Wives. The smell of gun powder is still too strong!
LBH, what can I say that I haven't already said? More gushing? I will say that seeing him play such a complicated character as Min Chul, so beautifully, just confirms everything I think of him as an actor. I love the guy! To me he's top of the line. No one does suppressed emotion like him. He uses his whole body. Sometimes his face is showing nothing and you'll see his body shake with unexpressed sobs. Who does that? I'll never get over the scene where he comes home and knows that Sena's not a match for Yon Soo. Before he can go into the house to face her, he needs to pull himself together. The picture of LBH/Min Chul sobbing into his hand will stay with me always. So impeccably played! So heartbreaking!
I can't wait to see him play crazy in The Good, The Bad and The Weird. I know with his acting chops he's going to make crazy look easy. I know I said I wouldn't gush, but I can't stop myself. Sorry. Just love the guy!
Shin Min Ah was his co-star in his movie Bittersweet Life. He and she went to the Cannes Film Festival with that one. She was great in that and of course he was stupendous. The same director as in The Good, etc. Anyone who hasn't seen him in that, should.
All in all I had a lot of fun doing this drama. It wound up just me and you, Jasy, but it was worth every minute. You made it great. Thanks for sticking around with me. I think we did exceptionally well, just the two of us. What do you think?
We're headed for the last few minutes. I know we could have done it already, but I think this drama deserves its due. Let's finish it with style and grace. I don't feel the need to rush through it. Not like we rushed it though, have we?
I'll be back.
Later
His diversity shows in these pictures alone. I know hair and make-up play a role in this, but his sensibility plays a more important role. This guy has nothing to do with Min Chul.
I'm really going now.
