Re: K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)
Good Morning BD Family
We agonized about finishing the last 10 or 15 minutes of this drama. Neither of us wanted to let this go. It was wrong, so wrong to leave Min Chul waiting such a long time for news of Yon Soo's condition, but I know he'd understand our hesitation at saying good-bye. I want to say something about the last minutes too, or I'd feel I didn't do my part. Leaving Min Chul covering his mouth trying not to let Yon Soo see him cry, tears running down his face, was unforgivable, so I have to make amends here.
The sound of the doors to the surgery room opening startled Min Chul. He must have been standing in the exact same place for hours. He'd promised to wait right there and he did. He looked at Yon Soo's face for a sign as she was wheeled past him. He was frozen to the spot until Yon Soo's hand opened, seeking his hand. He heard her say, "Are you still there?" He rushed to catch up to her and took her hand in his and said, "I'm right here." He was holding her hand tightly and a small smile passed over Yon Soo's face. He let her hand go and stood there as she was taken away.
He stood completely still absorbing the fact that his Yon Soo had survived. His eyes were full of tears of relief and gratitude. He was smiling and crying at the same time. He wiped away his tears and stood there soaking in the reality that Yon Soo had made it through. A big smile lit up his face and he put his hands on his hips, threw his head back, as if looking at the sky. Maybe he was giving thanks. Maybe he'd learned to pray.
Sena's concert was, I guess three or four months after Yon Soo's recovery. A great night for everyone concerned. Narae had become the manager she'd always wanted to be. Sena had made a successful comeback and Sun Jae was recognized for his music, without using a pseudonym. It was all good. A victory!!
Seeing Min Chul and Yon Soo in the audience made me smile. He looked happy and very handsome and in love. Yon Soo looked happy and very beautiful and above all healthy, also in love. They looked like a normal, beautiful married couple, if you didn't know the heartache they'd been through, just to get to this place. Looking at them now, who'd know that? They made it and all's well that ends well.
We see Min Chul standing side by side with Sun Jae. Min Chul has a beautiful, bright smile on his face, happy and proud for everyone's accomplishments. And Sun Jae? Well, Sun Jae, being Sun Jae looks constipated. It was the best he could muster up for the event.
I'm going to miss this drama. Its my number one favorite of all times. I'm going to miss the characters, especially Min Chul who'd made the biggest transition. Watching the last few minutes again it hit me that I wasn't watching an actor playing a character, but Min Chul is a separate entity, thanks to the fine acting job of LBH, so I'm going to miss Min Chul. I'll always follow LBH, so matter where he goes, but I have to leave Min Chul for now.
I find it bittersweet to see this end. We've dragged it out as long as we could, without looking absurd. Okay, maybe we looked absurd, but give us a break. We really had a hard time letting go.
So ends Beautiful Days. I hope all of the lurkers enjoyed the ride as much as we did.
Pictures? Did you say pictures? You know I have them and I'm going to share them for all of you LBH fans. I'll post them separately for you and most of all, for me.
I'll be back.
