Re: K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)

I know I gush and awful lot about this actor, but I believe he's always prepared. I can't imagine his giving an interview in English without being fluent in the language. He's supposedly fluent in French and Mandarin too. When he was filming Dream Racers many years ago in Russia he picked up some of the language and it was said his accent was flawless, so maybe he just has an ear for language. I thought the interview was interesting, because he was speaking so casually and didn't seem nervous about it at all.

I saw him in the film, a film I'd never see under any other circumstances, and his English sounded stilted to me, though perfect. He sounded like an actor who learned only those lines in English, but didn't really speak the language. I realized later that he was playing a character and so spoke that way purposely.

I'd heard him speak English in other dramas, like All In and Dream Racers. I've heard that he spoke fluently, over the time I've been following his career. I was happy to see he didn't embarrass himself in the interview and in fact did really well.

I think that actors who want to act in Hollywood need to learn the language to do that. I think that may be what kept Kwon Sang Woo from getting the role in the Green Hornet movie.

I was impressed with Lee Byung Hun's extemporaneous speaking in that interview. He completely understood the questions in English and answered as a native speaker would. Any accent was nearly imperceptible. Nor did he falter looking for an appropriate word or phrase to use in his answers. It looks as though he might have the best chance at making a mark in Hollywood, though it is very tough for Asians for a couple of reasons. Daniel Henney has got his big break in landing a TV series here. But then, his image and language are more American than Asian and he fits the mold better of what casting directors are looking for.

I can just see you in that movie theater, Smoochie! LOL! And why not? You have just as much right (probably more) to see and enjoy what you want on the big screen. Well, not so big anymore. Wasn't it great when the 'big screen' WAS big?! We still have a few large-screen theaters around LA, but most movie theaters here are multi- or mega-complexes (some 25+ screens). Anyway, I would do the same as you. When you really want to enjoy someone like LBH, it's better to go alone and not be bothered by a companion who just doesn't understand your enjoyment of such a work of art!

Nchristi,
Its too bad about the passing of the really big screen, but you do what you gotta do. It was big enough to enjoy his appearance. I never thought I'd get the chance to do that.

My obsession with LBH is my guilty little secret from those around me, so of course I went alone. No one else would've gotten it, especially another adult who'd never heard of him. It goes like this; "Who's your favorite actor? ". My response, "Lee Byung Hun." Their reaction, "Who?" emoticon

Plus, although it was a joy to see him on screen in this country, Storm Shadow wasn't his greatest work. How would someone else get it? Me sitting there drooling over an Asian actor, only I'd ever heard of. Now, seeing Bittersweet Life or The Good The Bad and The Weird would really be a dream come true.

So I went, and I went alone. If you're a fan, you can't only talk the talk, you must walk the walk. I'm a huge fan, because I hated the movie and I sat through the whole damn thing, just to see LBH, till the bitter end. emoticon

I worry that in Hollywood they won't know what they've got in LBH. He's not just another Asian who knows Tae Kwondo. I don't know if they see him as an actor with real talent.

Daniel Henney will do well here. Everytime I've seen him in a Kdrama, I've seen him as an American. I'd be happy to see him succeed and I think he will. Plus, American fans can get a glimpse of how gorgeous he is. That's our secret, how beautiful these Asian guys are. I don't know if I'm ready to share.

K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)

Good Morning BD,

That was a very interesting conversation nchristi and smoochie. You must know smoochie, that you're not the only adoring fan of LBH. You saw all those posters lately falling all over themselves with LBH compliments. You are certainly the ultimate fan though, sitting through a very long movie all alone and which the contents you had no interest in just to see your hottie on the big screen. LBH would tell you, well done smoochie!

I've read many interviews with LBH and posters remarks but I've actually never read him saying that he is from a wealthy family. I know later on in LBH's life, he has said that he had to work hard to pay off his deceased father's many debts. He once said in an interview that he has felt towards his father how Minchul felt towards his father in Beautiful Days.

Wealthy or not, I tend to think LBH's smarts in language speaking has more to do with his very high IQ of 155 rather than maybe learning English possibly from someone early on in his private life. He also speaks other languages quite easily.

There are many types of intelligences of which include linguistic and verbal which is good with words. The interesting part of his interview in English to me is that he had no accent whatsoever and his English speaking voice is not as deep as his native Korean. That floored me at first. What I always love is his deep voice and his very deep laugh. His English speaking voice is so average that some GI Joe movie goers were saying that his voice was dubbed. But it wasn't. That's really him speaking.

If LBH could read all this chatter about him smoochie, he might say as another poster said in her post, "what, you thought it was easy to be me?"

Speaking of David Henney who I enjoy watching, (and he's such a nice guy,) there will be another Korean hottie gracing one of our American stations if all goes according to plan.

JUNG WOO SUNG...he will star in a TV series, City Hunter for American TV. It will be written in English, but the majority of scenes will film in Seoul and Tokyo. There will be Hollywood and Korean actors in this. This info was announced in January and I've read bits and pieces about this project. I have no idea if it's still a go.

Jung Woo Sung is one of the few actors and maybe the only actor of the same generation/age range as LBH who can hold his own against him. They've known each other a very long time and worked together in the early Dream Racers and again in The Good, The Bad, The Wierd. In the latter, I had to root for them both. I just couldn't take sides. They are two top notch actors with no doubt.

About Beautiful Days, the first 3 months of telecast, it rated a high of 25% and according to Neilsen, it rose to 30.9% ratings for the last episode.

CJW has said in an interview that the person she most admired is Lee Byung Hun. "I had learnt much from him from the kissing scene we shared in "Beautiful Days."

And LBH has said of his famous kissing scene with CJW, "I didn't want to act for the sake of acting, even if it's fake. I want it to look real. As such I had to pour my entire feelings into it to project the right effect to the audience, anyway, Choi Ji-woo has no complaints."

And smoochie, we know she had no complaints after watching the extras from EHS. LOL

One of the cutest scenes I enjoyed was when Minchul and Yonsoo were sitting on a bench and they were discussing what Yonsoo should call him. He thinks for a bit and very seriously comes up with "sweetie." She gives him a look. Yonsoo starts giggling and I laughed. LBH begins laughing with that deep, deep laugh. He then tells her it doesn't fit him, huh? LOL

Scenes like this made BD a delight to watch, the interaction between these two, all the ups and downs. Such a perfect couple.

Great pictures smoochie. I'll be back.

Re: K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)

Good morning, Jasy.

Yes, I'm a big fan, but not as big as the Japanese woman who forced her husband to buy the house next door to LBH's. Now that's a fan, and a very understanding husband. emoticon The fact that he's hardly home these days must make her sad, but I guess its worth it when she can catch a glimpse of his comings and goings. Now if only I had a husband.... No never mind.

He's said in an interview that he goes to Busan to hang out with friends and drink, and sometimes when he comes home in the middle of the night he finds fans still waiting outside his home. Imagine? Isn't Busan CJW's hometown? I think so. Hmmmm.....

I don't think the Hollywood crowd knew who they were travelling with until they hit the airports in Japan and Korea. The furor and hundreds of fans waiting to catch a look at LBH was very impressive. I know he must have been gratified to see his fans waiting for him and it must've made him really proud. His co-stars said it was like travelling with Elvis. Again, I ask Elvis who? He had a good showing of fans in Los Angeles too, which must've been surprising to them.

This picture was from an interview promoting GI Joe. My little hottie looks really tired here. But, still hot. emoticon

I'll be back emoticon

Good Morning BD Family emoticon

I was remembering the beach scenes with Yon Soo and Min Chul. They were great and I think it was the first time Min Chul relaxed in a very long time, maybe ever. Yon Soo, who was so non-demanding, made him feel safe and comfortable. She wasn't as comfortable around him, though she tried. He always made her feel on edge and a little off balance. By the way, I'm sure it was something he was aware of doing. Being emotionally bankrupt, as he was, it made hiim feel in charge of the situation.

Such great memories. emoticon

I hope that Jung Woo Sung speaks Korean in the series he's doing for American TV. I saw a clip of his upcoming drama, A Good Rain Knows When to Fall, where he's speaking English and it was really, really hard to understand a word he said. I'd hate to see his debut in America make him look bad, though I can't imagine his ever looking bad, he looks so good.

As much as I love him as an actor and as a hottie, I don't see him in the same light as I see LBH. His body of work isn't as diverse as LBH's, so its hard to judge them side by side for me. I've seen him in some really wonderful things though and I do think he's a fine actor. And I also think he's hot as hell. emoticon That's me with my tongue hanging out. emoticon

In the Good The Bad and The Weird, both of these actors were great, but the actor who stood above both of them, for me at least, was Song Kang Ho. He's a really fine actor whom I've seen in many movies. The fact that he's not a hottie, by any stretch of the imagination, makes me forget what a talent he is. This movie helped me remember that. I watched the movie for LBH, got JWS as a bonus and then was most impressed by Song Kang Ho's performance. See, you never know. emoticon I think I first saw him in Secret Sunshine, a movie which won awards at the Cannes Film Festival, including the lead actress Jeon Do Yeon, winning an award for best actress. His latest film, Thirst, also was shown at the Cannes Film Festival and won the Jury Prize for best film of 2009. I've always been pleased by this actor's good work and am always glad to see him.

At the end of the day, its still LBH on top of my list. I like when I watch something with him in it. He has the ability to make me forget its him I'm seeing on the screen, because he defines the character so distinctly. That's what an actor is supposed to do and as far as I'm concerned, nobody does that better than LBH. emoticon Plus, he's so damn hot!! I'm just saying......

Image

Image

Image
What's better than this? He doesn't even need to show his face!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Image

That's it for now. I know some of my pictures are going to be repeats, but some things are worth a second and even a third look. I think this actor deserves to be looked at again and again, even if only by me. emoticon

I'll be back. emoticon

Later emoticon

K-Drama (SBS): 아름다운 날들 (Beautiful Days)

Good Morning BD,

The series that Jung Woo Sung is supposed to star in will be in English. Like I said, I don't know if it's still on but I hope it is. I haven't checked into it lately. I've read that he wants to become a film director for movies and TV dramas eventually. Behind the camera?? No, no no. But he also has other things planned so we're not losing him yet.

There are so many great Minchul and Yonsoo scenes in BD it's hard to go back and remember them all. Everytime I watched them in scenes together, I always thought that scene is the best so far but I had to keep saying that throughout the whole drama. That's how good they were and their scenes were. This drama is definitely a keeper.

The cherry blossom scene was an example of excellent leading up to"the" moment with the theme song and the sound of the drum beat getting louder and louder as Minchul begins walking, then picking up the pace and finally begins running to find Yonsoo among the crowd. Once he spots her and she turns around and sees him, and as he goes to her and embraces her, the camera swirls around and around them from above. It was an intense scene among the beautiful display of cherry blossoms. The camera man certainly earned his pay.

LBH is signed on to do the sequel for GI Joe and will begin filming at the end of the year in Hollywood. It's a sure thing. So our LBH will be spending more time in Hollywood again. I'm glad he's left us with Iris and I Come With The Rain. We have lots to look forward to.
