Re: K-Drama Fan Meetings! (Post, Discuss, and Arrange)
Ok .I hope I am not posting where I shouldn't ,but in the PIH thread ,
Tankersparks AKA Margaret mentionned the possibility of another fan meeting after PIH ends .
Actually ,at the BB family meeting last July - we had discussed the possibility of doing that again and periodically .
I am here to say that I hope it WILL happen ,and even more people turn up this time .If I can help with the planning ,please let me know .
I think the main thing is the PLACE .We all loved Koreatown Plaza ,but the food court was loud .We really need a smaller venue ,but I don't think we need anything else .If we were in a quiet restaurant ,we might not even need a private room .
I am posting this here so more people will see it ,and maybe Margaret can see how interested we are .
Thoughts ???
Ideas ???

Re: K-Drama Fan Meetings! (Post, Discuss, and Arrange)
Please note this fan meeting will be held on the West Coast, in the Greater Los Angeles area. class blockquote addie04 wrote:

Tankersparks AKA Margaret mentionned the possibility of another fan meeting after PIH ends .Thanks for posting this, addie. I noticed that Tankersparks (Margaret) mentioned she wasn't sure if she was able to "take it on" this time around, so perhaps those who feel inclined or able to help out in coordinating various items might like to volunteer to assist. People who wish to help out in the tasks of organizing and arranging can jump right in.
So, everyone please feel free to begin offering your suggestions, preferences, etc.

Re: K-Drama Fan Meetings! (Post, Discuss, and Arrange)
First off, why do we have to wait for PIH to end.... different K-Dramas are ending and new ones starting all the time..... we would have plenty to talk about.
There is a Korean BBQ place on the corner of Van Nuys and Moorpark Streets (in the S. F. Valley). I pass it quite often on my way home from work (when I go home that way)...... will stop in this week and check it out.
I thought the Korean Plaza was a great first meeting place as it was centralized for all. I thought it might be fun to move around the SoCal area. It's not necessary to go to the Vally first, if someone in Garden Grove or another part of the Southern or Eastern part of LA area has a place in mind-that would be great-we can go to the Valley the next time. I just threw that place out there, as it just came to mind.
Sorry, but I need to express my personal feelings.......
I do not feel it is appropriate to keep using the words "BB Family" or "the family". Fan Get-Togethers and drama threads are for ALL. I know I was uncomfortable when I started posting in the BB thread and even in the PIH thread as I don't know if I'm "one of the Family" as my opinions seem to differ from the majority. Also, because once I posted "hey, us non-family members....." (in the PIH thread) and NO ONE ever posted back that I/we are all in the Family.
I am also thinking of the many new posters who may want to come but also may not feel one of "the family". A lot of new posters seem to post for a short while and then stop..... maybe they feel left out of "the family", too.
I totally enjoy PIH even more so than BB - I have from the beginning..... this drama has more in-depth characters and great story lines. Other characters pop in and out for short story line arcs, too, which makes the drama more enjoyable and more like real life.
To newbies who want to join in the Get-Together..... it is not just for BB or PIH drama fans.... it is for ALL who enjoy K-Dramas!!
FYI - Once in the Japanese drama thread for Wakaba I brought up a fan get-together of visiting a Japanese garden..... I'm still working on that (though life got in the way) and will post in the W thread and a mention in this thread - all are welcome, including K-Drama fans. This, too, is a West Coast SoCal event.

Re: K-Drama Fan Meetings! (Post, Discuss, and Arrange)
Good morning Everyone and the best of the New Year to all
CantGetEnough.... I agree with just about everything you said. The Philadelphia group (Theresa) do try and meet in different locations. The two that I went to one was in Cherry Hill, New Jersey and the other was in New York City (not to far from Harold Square). So the Valley may not be a bad idea. The only reason I mention Garden Grove is because of the many Korean restrurants, grocery stores, and business. If we can take a census of who would be interested in coming than we can see where the most interests lies and take it from there.
The only problem with the Koreatown Plaza that I saw was the noise. I was shocked as to how loud it was. Shocked because I had been there many times and never relized how loud it is.
The east coasters have a name for themselves, the Hawaiian group also has a name SIDEBAR HERE: did you see the KBS drama awards last night? Did you see the BIG banner they displayed :SIDEBAR ends. I like the idea of FAMILY because most of us have experienced the isolation of being a fan of Koran TV dramas and not have anyone to talk to about it. It took over 10 years for me to find someone outside of the deaf community to talk to about KD's. That is my reason to want to keep the word "family" in any group endeavor we take on. We also have the advantage over the east coasters in as much as we have 2 channels on "local" tv to choose from. We dont really need cable or satalite. BB drama brought us together the first time so how about "Korean Drama Family group" ??????
So lets start posting locations and ideas and lets target March or April.
YAAAAAA looking forward to seeing everyone again and meeting more.
The great thing about this board, I find, is not the comments that agree with my ideas but the ones that have a different view point. Many times I will read a post and go "OH I did not think of that". So diverse opinions are always an eye opener for me.

One of the side features is it is kinda close to the Hsi Lai beautiful temple that Addie has spoken about in her trip thread if anyone would like to make a side trip there also. http://www.hsilai.org . It is just a though and a fun field trip too.Off-topic, but I was at the Hsi Lai temple on Christmas (my second or third visit), and it is indeed beautiful. Even if you aren't Buddhist, I think it's worthwhile to go and see it just to realize that a place like that exists right here in Los Angeles. Most visitors I saw were Chinese, of course, but there were also many visitors from other Asian communities as well as non-Asians And there's no charge: you can just park your car and take in the grounds.

I think that is a fabulous idea ,M's
I have not watched Kdramas for years and years ,but I did watch MSMD by myself ,and it can be kind of lonely .Here is this great story ,and you have no one to talk to about it .
During BB we found such a sense of community ,but it was never exclusive .
Everyone that posted was a member of the family - and when I could ,I would stress that .
I know curly carrot asked about being a member of the family ,and I think nsheldon and I said "you already are "
So let us put that to rest .
as far as an official name - I really like M's suggestion ,but anybody that reads my recaps knows I shorten everybody's name - so I would like to suggest
K D family
I also think rotating the place is a great idea .For the future ,the San Fernando Valley is loaded with Korean restaurants - many of which I have eaten in
I also heartily recommend a visit to the HsiLai temple .It is gorgeous ,and when I have shown pictures to people they can't believe it is right here in So Cal .I also bought some gifts there - I was looking for a Gwan Yin ,and they have a good selection .
