Always Current Discussions of Different K-Dramas: K-DRAMA VIDEO CLUB!

Hey Super Rookie, I do exactly the same thing! EOTS first then Super Rookie until I'm so tired I have to go upstairs and go to sleep! It's nice that EOTS and SR are soo different because I can't mix up what happens. I usually end up posting at night after watching them because otherwise, being so elderly, I won't remember the next day!

About banchan -- there's always kimchee and some other hot pickled thing like lettuce or cucumbers, a soup like Korean miso or seaweed soup or a plain radish broth, fried egg ommelette, and some vegetable like spinach, mung bean sprouts, or regular bean sprouts. Sometimes there's a meat like a fried fish or bulgogi (like bbq beef) or anchovies or fishcake. It's a lot of work getting a Korean meal on the table, but it looks like the Kangs don't have very elaborate meals. It looks like rice, kimchee, soup, and maybe a vegetable. I checked out a good Korean cooking book from the library called "Eating Korean." The recipes look pretty simple and authentic.

I don't know how long Eric lived here I just know that he went to high school in Fullerton. I am 10 years older than him so I wouldn't have been around the HS crowd. A lot of kids move into our area and go to HS and then go back home afterward...
I take it Eric wasn't born in CA then? I'm assuming he's one of those kids sent to Fullerton just to attend HS because in his dream shown on the last part of ep 14 where he spoke English fluently, I thought I detected a slight accent.

For side dishes served along side bop or bap (rice), it varies depending on which restaurant you visit. Kimchi is always one of the items. I've seen spicy pickled radish (daikon), seaweed, bean sprouts sauteed in sesame oil, sweet and spicy dried little fish, sometimes there's even potato salad. Just go to any Korean BBQ place to get an idea. BBQ places usually provide a lot more side dishes than say a place that only serves hot noodle soup - at least that's what I've experienced.

All I know is I've eaten more noodles of all kinds since I started watching K-dramas! And now I eat even Italian-sauced pastas with chopsticks. It's pretty strange, I tell you.

Thanks for the food information.

I should look into finding a good korean restaurant to go to one of these days, I've got an inkling. ;) Thanks for the information on that buppy and pfl.

I missed episode 17 last night so I'm going double today to make it up and will watch ep 17 to catch up and 18 today as well. Will post more as soon as I see these.

Super Rookie Episodes 17 and 18

Yeah March 1 is good. Though I wouldn't mind starting on Feb 28 either.

Edit - Update

Ok I just watched the two episodes for yesterday (ep 17) and today (ep 18).

Episode 17

BS asks for Kang to forgive him for what he's done. He even went down on his knees to the ground to beg for Kang's forgiveness. But at the office the next day BS acts all arrogant and tells Kang of his foolishness and that his childhood was no excuse to do what he did to Kang, but then he goes and says "But the thing that's the hardest thing to bear is that I got on my knees and pleaded with a loser like you. I'll never live that down." How does he expect Kang not to turn him in when he says things like this?

BS then goes to Song asking for help, Song turns him down and says it's not his concern and that BS is on his own.

Mi-Ok finally started to open up and show her care. She goes to Hyun-ah to ask for Hyun-ah to intervene and use her clout to save Kang. She even swallowed her pride to ask for Hyun-ah's forgiveness just so Hyun would help kang. Hyun-ah is so wishy-washy. When she found out about Kang's situation she didn't really care, or want to help until Mi-ok begged her. Mi-Ok desperately was looking for Kang after he was fired. But once they met, she finally opened up to him. They're an item now, officially. emoticon

The other momentous scene was another family dinner event where Min complains that his parents don't care as much for him. These scenes are so great. Min cracks me up so much with how he says things, how he acts and the little sounds he makes. Like in that scene he makes a scoffing sound saying Kang bought a new suit for summer. One part Min was asking his parents for a new suit, for his get-togethers with his friends. The mom smacks him and says "You good for nothing. Get togethers my behind. If you've got time for get-togethers, use it to find a job."

Now that Kang is jobless Sung-tae, himself, min and gweng pil from pfl (what is his name? I think it's joon or something) come up with a plan to get the mastermind behind the frameup (Song).

Mr Maruyama visits LK as they need him for a joint project. He visits to see Kang also and asks for him, but they lie to him and tell him Kang is away on assignment. Song, Koo and Kim are astonished how someone of his status is friends with Kang.

The episode ends as Kang, and the trio (his friends and min) with Mi-Ok's help go into LK to try to start their plan.

Episode 18

Mi-Ok got them some ladies cleaning outfits as disguises... You can guess that that means. emoticon Gweng Pil and Min are the funniest looking ones in those outfits and make up on. Have you all noticed Min always walks hunched over with his butt sticking out, sometimes he walks backwards too. He looks so goofy. (GPil) goes to the administrative floor and digs around at BS and Koo's desk. He looks so hilarious with the make-up and outfit on. Koo tells him "My, you're a big lady..."

Kang later goes to BS to try to make peace with sorts with BS and gets him to join Kang in the caper to take down Song. BS agrees and it looks like they're on good terms now. BS finally does something magnanimous, after all Kang didn't turn him in.

This episode is one of my favorites in a long while. The whole series of caper scenes was hilarious. It reminded me of a lot of good tv shows we used to have here in the US in the 80s. They don't make these kind of gems anymore, sadly.

The scene where sung-tae and kang ho pull the caper against Song and the S-Corp person in the restaurant scene was great. Song was a nervous wreck after he started to fear Maruyama might be after the framer (him).

Koo and Kim see Kang the next day at the LK offices and they kiss up to him and try to get his favor by promising they'd give him his job back. Kim asked Kang to help them get to Maruyama. Those two are so cheap. They only treat Kang well if they need him, otherwise he's like dirt. It was nice to see them grovelling though.

After that meeting Kang meets Mi-Ok and they overhear Moon talking to someone on the phone. Moon was talking about Kang and was sounding very suspicious over the phone. Is Moon a bad guy afterall? Kang sneaks a peak through the blinders, but Moon spots him... End of episode.

I love these dramatic cliff-hangers. I can't wait to see what lies next with the final two episodes. I'll don't want this series to end. This has been too great an experience. I've never enjoyed watching a series this much and now the end is near. emoticon

A few pages back, buppy mentioned that K-men like women who are innocent, unassuming, wilting-flower girls. They don't like go-getter girls. Mi-ok is such a girl and must be Kang Ho's type not like Hyun-ah who's aggressive and bold. class blockquote SuperRookie wrote:

...Speaking of the presentation, have you noticed when Kang speaks english he keeps adding another letter to his words, like brand becomes brand-eh, and purpose is purpos-uh, is becomes ishu. Just a side note...
That's how Koreans speak English with a Korean accent. class blockquote SuperRookie wrote:

...In that series of lines, the mother says "A woman should be sweet first and foremost..." Then she looks all innocent and then does the "Min hair toss." I could not stop laughing....
That is particularly funny for the mother to say since she herself is no sweetheart and is rather cantankerous.

Always Current Discussions of Different K-Dramas: K-DRAMA VIDEO CLUB!

Thanks for the recap SR. Always helpful! If Kim & Koo weren't so darn funny to watch I would really hate them too! But all the bad guys, even Bong Sam are so human that I feel for them too. Did anyone get why the men were laughing after Song stared at Kim at the urinal? I don't understand....
Didn't Min looks so pretty with his makeup on as a cleaning lady? I'm so relieved that he finally found a talent in espionage! Do you think that maybe he would be a good fit as Murayama's employee? I think so! I hope that happens later in the show and I sure how Sung Tae finds a job too. I feel so sorry for him. I bet he's modeled on a real-life guy in Korea.

Super Rookie ep 17/18

Thanks pfl for clearing that up! That makes more sense now as far as the relationship aspect. I too can see why that would be attractive as well, but in Mi-ok's case, she's usually always moody towards Ho Kang. It was nice to see the love-birds finally go on the same wavelength in the last episode or two though. emoticon I'm a sucker for happy moments.

As far as the mother incident, exactly my thoughts. emoticon

buppy, as far as the bathroom scene... I believe they were making fun of Song's smaller "size."

I agree, that scene where Min solved the problem with the meeting place was great. He's going to be on Sweet Spy 2, just wait. ;)
