Always Current Discussions of Different K-Dramas: K-DRAMA VIDEO CLUB!

I think that the Americans didn't want to have the whole town running away at the same time they are trying to evacuate it is really a we are taking care of our own ploy. The General brought all the people together so he and his men could try to protect them as the Chinese approach.

Okay, I'll admit it! I missed something important and you guys have to explain it to me. The Chinese are coming. I thought Gen. Kim wanted to evacuate the town to save the civilians. The Americans didn't want him to because that would give away the the fact that the Am. and Korean armies are retreating to the South side of the Han. So instead he gathered the whole town in one place for the fashion show and then let the Korean army start its retreat while the Chinese begin bombing the town? I'm confused...
My understanding is that the Chinese have started invading, and the Americans didn't inform Gen. Kim soon enough. Then the Americans asked Gen. Kim to evacuate quietly as they're afraid if the public finds out about it, it could complicate their mission. The Americans also passed on a direct order from Gen. MacArthur to "abandon the 4th position and re-establish a new defensive front in the south bank of the Han River by Nov 5." (The Chinese invaded on Nov 2). Gen. Kim refused and said that he cannot allow his people to be the wall of defense. He then barked an order to one of his soldiers to evacuate the residents and got up to leave. The American tried to stop Gen. Kim and threatened him with a court marshal if he doesn't follow Gen. MacArthur's order. Gen. Kim responds with guaranteeing the American men with a quiet evacuation as they asked but he and his soldiers are staying behind to protect their people. Later, one of Gen Kim's men warned that they won't be able to keep the allied army's departure under wrap; that people will notice it. Gen Kim then saw the fashion show as a way to distract the public as he quietly evacuates the allied army. However, the Chinese enemies arrived sooner than they had anticipated and started the bombings during the fashion show.

Fashion 70s

Looks like I'm quite behind on all the F70s talk already! I'll make a post later today as a few minutes into watching it, I fell asleep and I do want to rewatch it. ;)

Also the fashion designer has she been in any other K-drama beyond what buppy said? I thought I've seen her in some other K drama before. The same with dong young as a kid (I have not seen LiP yet). The girl who plays Joon hee, isn't she the little girl guest at the resorts in Prince's First Love?

The first few minutes were a little too exaggerated in my opinion. Like remember how excited everyone was that marilyn monroe was coming? All the soldiers were like dancing. The cook was like shaking his money maker and taping his backside....There was one clip where 3 of them were taking a leak and they were like boogeying and bumping each other side to side whilst that was going on. I thought that was a little odd. Then dong-young, a kid, on the base radio station was talking about panties? What?? I really, really doubt there would be such nonchalance and lack of naivitee by this group during the when was this part early 50s? I dunno, I know this is a military camp and a lot of these guys are soooo hard up and all, but wasn't this type of stuff way too flagrant for the 50s? If no, then I 'd like someone to show me examples of people shaking their behinds and taping it as dance moves of that era, because I certainly have never seen it before! ;)

I'll post more about ep 1 later today.

GL don't make me drag my dad to this site and have him tell you some stories about him and his army buddies. You do have to also try to have some fun to break up the seriousness of what you are there for. And if Marilyn Monroe or even a pretty girl in general was coming to visit they were pretty excited!

Actually pooka, I would find such stories rather informative! Ask him if they ever did some booty dancing/tapping. :P I still can not believe that being done in the 50s. Where's beaver and the cleavers when you need them!!!

By the way, congrats on post 500.

I assumed the setting was late 1930's to early 1940's before or during WW2 since they mentioned Gen. MacArthur and Allied army? I'm not good in history but that's my guess. Plus the fashion looks more 1940's to me than 1950's.

C'mon SR, by now shouldn't you be used to strange bathroom behavior / toilet scenes in these dramas? K-dramas celebrate going to the bathroom like no other drama I've seen. Image

No wonder that little girl (the one who had food strapped around her) looked familiar. Yeah, I think she was one of the little girls at Club July resort who gave Gun Hee a hard time on PFL.

I assumed the 50s as that was when the Korean war was. Plus since the title of the show is Fashion 70s, I assumed the later storyline would take place in the 70s when the kids were in their 20s? If it was any much earlier than that, those kids would be in wheelchairs! ;)

Haha good point about the bathroom behavior. lol

Ok your setting assumption makes more sense. So it was the Korean War, but to say ppl in their 40's need wheelchairs? Boy, you're really asking for it! Image

Uh oh first pooka ran me over with her wheelchair yesterday, and now a punch from pfl! I'm getting in hot water now!!! Where's my baby stroller, so I can make a quick get-a-way. ;)

Let me pose this interjection: Wasn't life expectancy in the korea in the 1940s-70s lower than today?

Even in today's day of modern technological/medical advances it is still a little low: http://www.paulnoll.com/Korea/History/South-Korean-compare-life.html (avg male 67 in Korea, while in hong kong or japan 76/77).

So from that one point of view, could one not say they were getting old faster back then? :P
