Re: Always Current Discussions of Different K-Dramas: K-DRAMA VIDEO CLUB!
We are watching or trying to watch an hour tonight. I might have to steal the earlier DVDs and scan through them on the computer to remember what happened.

Re: Always Current Discussions of Different K-Dramas: K-DRAMA VIDEO CLUB!
Wow, you guys are already on p. 2 of this thread. You are right, captiva. PFL is my fave K-drama.
pook, Bae Young Jun from Winter Sonata did a nude scene with Bong Sam's gf in that movie you're talking about (remake of Dangerous Liaisons)? Hmmm, I didn't think he did those types of things.
Anyway, back to Super Rookie. Very interesting observations so far. Mi-Ok is played by the actress Han Ga In. It's funny how GLO-ah is griping about the mole on her nose. Is it that big? A lot of people find her very pretty and like her acting, though. I personally think she can be cute at times though I don't consider her a stunning type. As for her acting, it's so-so, imo. I think Min, the brother, is a riot. He's so jealous of Kang because he feels his parents pay more attention to him. As for Eric, I saw him in 2 episodes of Phoenix and wondered what the draw was to him. Then I saw him in this drama and I thought the role suited him more and I finally understood why so many girls/women find him charming - though he's still not on my spoony list. He is rather cute in this role.
--- I do as I please.

I pretty much agree with your observations about Mi-Ok completely.
Yes her mole always distracts me..I don't know why. It's not the mole it'self, it's the placement or something.

Re: Always Current Discussions of Different K-Dramas: K-DRAMA VIDEO CLUB!
okay, first and most importantly - I hate you all! There are at least 4 of you talking about this remake of Dangerous Liaisons and not ONE of you thought to mention it earlier? Now it may not be repeated on AZN's schedule and I may have missed it??? And you're happy having a discussion about whether it is or isn't risque, etc without me? Fine. You have to live with your thoughtless selves, I'm just embarrassed for you.
Aiisshhht, honestly.
Second, I like Miss Mole-Nose. At first it surprised me that the tiny little mole hadn't been removed over in the land of plastic surgery but pretty soon I didn't notice it at all. I think she's really lovely and I think she's doing a good job in these episodes of playing a girl who's so broken- hearted and broken-spirited that she's afraid of everything. She's so poor, she wears socks, people! She can't even afford pantyhose!
The one who I think is slow to react is Bong Sam. I'm waiting to see what is so dynamic about this guy that makes him the big star recruit. Or maybe that's just it, to really be a star recruit, don't be too dynamic? Is he just handsome and dumb? It looks like he's mean. We'll see.
I loved the part of the first episode that was on the MBC download. It was so funny that I couldn't wait to see the rest. Now I'm not too sure about Eric or the smart friend, for me they're playing the humor so broadly that it's almost slapstick. Their mugging takes away from it for me.

Re: Always Current Discussions of Different K-Dramas: K-DRAMA VIDEO CLUB!
Hey the movie thing is my fault , I had to go and bring it up. The listing on AZN said To be announced so I didn't tune in till after it had started. I didn't think most of you had seen it because it is too late for you. BB don't get mad because we saw spoony's buns. LOL!
I like Moley (that reminds of Austin Powers ..Moley, Moley, Moley) She is ok, as we find out more about her you like her more. She is sweet, give her character time. Poor Han Ga In was planning and having a huge wedding as this show was filming, so I don't blame her for not giving 100%. If you got the set with the extras you can see part of her wedding. So she wears socks because she is poor? I just thought she wore them because she liked them.
I am like Pfl I just never believed Eric as the big romantic lead in Phoenix, I just don't get it. But I really think that comedy is his thing. I really liked Kang and felt for the character.
My poor confused Bong Sam. He is a bit mean and arrogant, but you will find out why soon enough and might even come to like him by the end.
I love all of the assorted players, the bar ladies, the office crew, the family and the friends. But if Kang's friend is so smart why can't he ever get a job. Or is he only smart when he is drinking? Ever time I watch this show I want ramen and fried chicken!! That is all that guy eats. Speaking of I better go find some dinner so I can see episode two and catch up.....

Super Rookie
Yeah the movie was listed as TBA on my cable box also, I ran into it by accident after Emperor of the Sea ended that night.
bbstl, as far as Ms Mole Nose, I think you don't notice it sometimes by design. As far as I can tell, on some episodes it's covered up with make up. Still, while she's no stunner as a lead actress, I still do like her role and her acting abilities though.
Kang's friend can't get a job, in his words, due to the economic problems caused by the downturn in the US economy that affects the Korean economy as well. Not to mention the diminishing "middle class" due to the multinational corporations. Remember when Kang stole that speech in episode 3? Hilarious!
Overall, I think this has the best supporting/extra cast in any K drama I've seen so far though as far as quality and quantity.

Re: Always Current Discussions of Different K-Dramas: K-DRAMA VIDEO CLUB!
The humor is corny in a lot of places and if this were an American TV show I probably would have put it in the trash. Since it's Korean though, I will laugh all the way through it because it's new to me. I might not be so forgiving if I had been watching Kdrama for a long time. Speaking of having my limits, how is the Pirate show going? I did give it a shot but then decided I just could not take anymore.
Her mole bugs me to for some reason. Not certain why because it's not big or anything. I just have the urge to run and get my concealer and dab a bit on the screen when they are doing close-ups. I guess maybe it's distracting because her skin is flawless otherwise
We are on Ep. 15 now. I am not certain how many there are. I have and still do feel sorry in some weird way for that pathetic Bong Sam.

Always Current Discussions of Different K-Dramas: K-DRAMA VIDEO CLUB!
I think Emperor of the Sea is awesome. I consider it in the "epic" class of tv series, in a similar way that I view phoenix. The story is extremely serious, rich and detailed; however, since it's a very long series, it is presented very slowly and perhaps with more detail than some would like. One could make the arguement that a number of scenes could be toned down or cut out in order to trim the series.
There's some comic relief provided by the merchant and his father, but that's about it for comedy.
I really think Emperor of the Sea is more geared towards us guys, personally. But I think you ladies would enjoy the romantic story aspects.
If you can stick through the battles, and the serious nature of the story, I think Emperor of the Sea is extremely rewarding. I had grave doubts about it from the onset but they were quickly diminished. People who like historical novels or movies will love it. Also people who like a lot of tactics, machinations, plotting for power and territorial expansion storylines, political drama, etc. will enjoy this series. But again, I still feel this series appeals more to guys.
As far as the Super Rookie comedy. I agree it's corny, and certainly I do think I'm also more forgiving as well... but to me it's more about context. I don't think western actors of our day could pull off these same comedy scenes with the same level of panache/style. I have a hard time envisioning it to work. The same with say Gweng Pil's scenes in PFL. I am reminded of the british comedy legends, like Benny Hill or Abbot and Costello. A lot of the scenes there are corny, but in that context, with those great actors, their works just end up as unparalleled.
