Always Current Discussions of Different K-Dramas: K-DRAMA VIDEO CLUB!
Episode 27 was just explosive!! I was floored by it. Episode 28 was a bit of a letdown after that but I was glad for a happy ending for somebody, anybody, after all of this! I cried my eyes out. I really felt like I had gotten to know everyone on this episode. The acting was phenomenal and the characters were so likeable. I even got to liking KH's mom in the end, especially when she had her soliloquy by the river bank where she went for her swim.
That scene with KH leaning into DY, looking so tiny and terrified was strangely touching. I mean, she deserves to be punished for running away from the house and leaving her father to die without telling anyone that he had swallowed all those pills. But she looked so fragile. No wonder DY felt so protective of her. Then when she walked into the execution chamber shaking, I felt so unbelieving that these producers could kill her off this way. She was so alive, vibrant, lovely and then to see her without makeup, in jailhouse clothes (although they were oddly chic on her), and imagining that she would look pale and expressionless after her execution...even though she's not a real person that really got to me.
It made total sense to me that DY would feel guilty about being with Dawmy while KH was going through her ordeal. But then again, isn't KH showing her ultimate selfishness this way? She knows that the only way to win DY's heart is by dying, because it would cause him so much regret and guilt, and these would be strong enough to override his love of Dawmy. Then by her father's death, she would not have to change her name back to Kang Hee. She was able to "take" her mother away from Dawmy by having her admit that she loved KH more than Dawmy and Dawmy lost her job at Chang Bong Sil's. Then finally she is able to complete the destruction through her death and take everything else from Dawmy: her boyfriend, her father, her job at Chang Bong Sil's, and also herself. What a pip!
I loved this drama. It was truly incredible and I was so addicted to it.
Joong Dog Deyo!! (Which means I am addicted.)

Re: Always Current Discussions of Different K-Dramas: K-DRAMA VIDEO CLUB!
It worked on my computer DVD player! I just finished watching the last 2 episodes!
What an emotional rollercoaster for the final 2 episodes.
Kang Hee wanting to die was a little annoying. Didn't she give a speech to her mother a few episodes back to face the consequences and not to flee from life? She did the exact same thing by not explaining the whole story or appealing the verdict. It was obvious she was ashamed, and has lost her will to live and just wants to end it all. Still, the way the father just died like that was disappointing and sad.
KH and Tumy's mother resurfaces! It's like she's the ultimate comeback-kid, or old hag in this case. ;) Everyone else keeps suffering, but she manages to survive them all. I did feel bad for her amnesia though. It was sad to see her confused looking for the real Kang Hee, wondering who tumy was and why she remembered Jun Hee for some reason. Her mind is all warped now.
The final episode was great though, because it tied up the loose ends with almost or pretty much all the main characters. It was good to see a good ending done right! I would have been upset if they left loose ends. I also liked the posthoumous show for Kang Hee's designs in the opening of serim. It was also touching to see Chang Bong Sil give Tumy the nod of approval after their break up a few years ago.
I too was annoyed that KH left like that. Her final letter to Tumy was she can't give up her name or DY. After all the things Tumy went through (the one who was robbed in the story), did KH have no compassion for all the hardships Tumy went through.
The final scenes really brought the story full circle with both DY, Tumy and the mother going back to Man-kol Island. What an ending. However, I wished there were words exchanged between DY and Tumy, after those 3 years of separation it could have been more powerful in my opinion - the way Phoenix handled the ending was far far better in my view. Also did the ending remind anyone else of Phoenix? I was getting shivers, in a good way.
This has been such a great series and it's been great to experience and discuss this all with you!

Re: Always Current Discussions of Different K-Dramas: K-DRAMA VIDEO CLUB!
I had to think about episode 28 before I could post ,I swear ! This was such a great series, but I just wonder how they could live happily after all this trauma >And the irony of the mom getting alcoholic dementia, and thinking that Duomei was KangHee !
Duomei took her mom to Menggu Island for her health . It kind of bothered me that DY ran into her on accident .He left her fashion show without being seen ,and I'm like - DY ! Weren't you going to call her or anything ? I wish they had had more dialog at the end ( and I wish DY would have put his luggage down when he hugged her
I think the strongest character was Duomei .I think all the emotional trauma she went through could have killed her otherwise . i admire her capacity for forgiveness -even to DY ,who left her when she needed him most. I can just picture DY waking up screaming now in his sleep - I would if I had gone through the last bit with KangHee . The guilt was definitely put on him, undeservedly or not !
Was he ever going to see Duomei - was it all an accident ?
I knew it wasn't going to work out with Bin .I was so glad that his arm was healed ,and though he was unhappy ,I'm sure , I hope his character stays strong. He had a good business ,and travelled a lot. There was healing in the relationship with his mom.He would meet someone else.I thought he was gonna be ok.( and as you all know ,I was worried about that )
I am really glad we are doing a comedy next !!!!!!!~

Whooooooooooo. I feel like the air is slowly being let out. Buppy, I'm a lot closer to understanding DY's actions after reading your post, thanks. I watched 17 and 28 again and had to consider the gravity of DY watching KH go through the trial for her life, her refusal to hold on to life, and most of all to witness her hanging would shake him to his core. He saw his part in her tragic story from the day he smoothed her hair when they were children. If only, if only. If only his selfish love for Toumy hadn't happened. So he had to banish himself until he had enough time to deal with the guilt and then Peen's visit released him into action. Is that what happened?
On a very related note, I found two websites that I really like about Confucianism (hilariously, I first googled "confusianism"!):
religion-cults.com - then select Eastern, then Confucianism
and
www.crystalinks.com/confucianism.html
I read them (among others) in that order and it worked well for me; one sort of warmed me up for the next. They really fleshed out the questions we had earlier in our F-70s discussion for me.
In a real-world connection I read in the WSJ that the CEO of Glovis, an affiliate of Hyundai Motors, has been arrested along with a lobbyist, basically over whether they used company money to influence a govt. decision to rezone an area of Seoul that allowed Hyundai's 3-story office building to become a 21-story building, currently nearing completion. In addition the Hyundai offices were raided on Sunday, along with three Hyundai subsidiaries including Kia, and 10 execs have been barred from overseas travel during the investigation. The entire Hyundai/Kia/Glovis/etc. group is 60% owned by Chairman Chung Mong Koo and his son who is Pres. of Kia. After you read about Confucianism, this story is a lot more interesting!

BBstl, yes, I think you hit the nail on the head! I think the other reason why DY would feel so guilty is that he spearheaded the effort to find the real Jun Hee. If he hadn't gotten so far and done his job so well maybe KH would still be alive and had not spiralled so far down as she had. She seemed to have been upset but not suicidal with DY leaving, but once she felt like her father had abandoned her for Dawmy, that was the breaking point.
