I'm way ahead as you know, but we watched SR last night and today. There was a real shocker at the end of the episode I watched today.
cap, what episode number did you watch today?

Towards the end of ep 4, after Mi-Ok told Kang Ho not to act too familiar with her at work and yap about her and Bong-Sam, Kang Ho was so indignant about her remarks and immediate departure that he chased after her. After trying to get her attention by screaming "Yah!" and her name, and Mi-Ok still wouldn't turn back, he called her "Bong-Sam's booty call". I couldn't believe it. At least that was the translation on the version I saw. What did your subtitles say?

...Some general comments about the first two episodes.

The first scene was hilarious. I admit I didn't understand it at first. In that scene, Ho Kang is depicted as a know it all, super brain, but then following that he is exposed as a goof/not very smart. I didn't get it at the time...
Wasn't Kang Ho dreaming while asleep waiting for his interview? He dreamed (wishful thinking) that all the questions the interviewer asked pertained to topics he knows so much about like comic books and card games, lol. class blockquote GL05 wrote:

...Mi-Ok strikes me as a naive goody-goody. She's really cute, but maybe I'm being ultra shallow but the mole on her nose just sticks out like a sore thumb...
Now that you've said this, the mole is all I see now every time I see Mi-Ok.

So Kang Ho is not completely talent-less. He qualified to be a dance instructor. Unless in Korea, they just about hire anyone to be dance instructors?

What was priceless for me in ep 1 was the humiliation of the mom in front of her friends to whom she has lied about Kang Ho's employment status. She represents that stereotypical Asian mom ashamed of her underachieving son. She told them Kang Ho has a job that's why she hid him and her husband in the bedroom to pretend they're not just slacking, hanging around at home all day. But Kang Ho had to expose and humiliate his mom when he went out of hiding to use the bathroom. Then when the mom's friends left, both husband and son got a beating from the mom, lol. What a family!

Now that I've seen ep 1 again, I'm kind of confused about who invited Kang Ho and his friend Sung-tae at that get-together that Bong-Sam had with his high school friends. Didn't Sung-tae get a phone call and told Kang Ho they're going out to drink and Bong-Sam was paying? Then at the restaurant, Bong-Sam announced that Kang Ho and Sung-tae showed up uninvited. Did he just pretend in front of everyone he didn't invite them or he really didn't? Then who called Sung-tae? Anyway, Kang Ho and Sung-tae acted well as a pair of boors freeloading from Bong-Sam. Kang Ho had the nerve to smack Bong-Sam on the head as he coaxed him into confessing what his real relationship is with his date. Eric and the other actor did a really good job acting as two ill-mannered, clueless guys.

Another question I have now is how Bong-Sam even found Mi-Ok attractive enough to date her in the first place. Mi-Ok is so opposite in appearance to his current interest (LK's CEO's daughter) and Bong-Sam's character doesn't seem to be the type to go for Mi-Ok's type. Bong-Sam was really harsh to Mi-Ok in the car when Mi-Ok rehashed their break-up. One of the things Bong-Sam said to Mi-Ok that I couldn't forget was "You can think whatever you want to make yourself feel better." Wow! Boy, he sure was a jerk.

Re: Always Current Discussions of Different K-Dramas: K-DRAMA VIDEO CLUB!

Ok I stoped on the way home and picked up a bag of fried chicken (because that is all the Kang and Sung-tae ever eat, well that and ramen) and went back through episodes 3 & 4.

I love the family interaction, I love that we start seeing Min's outbursts at the table with his mouth full of food. I wonder what kind of oil they put in that poor guys hair!

Now I am going to stick up for my poor mean Bong Sam and not just because he is sooo good looking it is just not right. In ep. 3 we see some of his childhood. I felt so bad for him getting beaten by his drunk father and sitting outside clutching his mother's shoe sobbing. Now we know just like Kang told him in the bar that he just tried to trade up with the girlfriends to improve his image, but he still obviously has feelings for Mi-ok. I think he told her to believe whatever she wants to make herself feel better to just get her to get over him and be able to move on. I don't get the attraction either but he was poor himself when he met her. Also we see how the new rich girl treats him like he not good enought to hang around with her and her friends. Also we hear a bit about his stock trading while he is at the car dealership. Bong Sam's apartment gives me a headache, it is like a box of crayons exploded in that place. Image

I love the temps sizing up the new recruits in the bathroom. They say that they are just as good looking as Jang Dong Gun and Won Bin!! Oh my I wish! As the one girl said "There are some doable dudes in this bunch". LOLOL!

Bong Sam's dream is one of my favorite parts of the whole series (if you have the extras disc check out the outtakes from that scene , very funny). I love Kang and his band of fools with their eye patches that no one needs. I also like that Mi-ok gets her revenge there, and when Bong Sam wakes up he checks his hair and his chest. Ah my poor shallow Bong Sam.

The office is filled with great characters. We have Director Koo (Kevin to us PFl folks), Mr. Moon and the Vice President guy. The interaction between Director Koo and Mr. Moon gets funnier and funnier as the show gets farther along. The other thing that made me laugh in the end episode 4 was when Koo and the VP try to convince Kang that he is qualified to work there. I love that they tell him that he is the prodigy that will lead them into the 21 st century. I also like the funny looks between Bong Sam and Kang they are so jealous of each other. Well I am caught up for now and ready for ep. 5.
Oh Pfl I have the same set as Cap so we got ex-gilrfriend not booty call, Ithink he would have gotten slapped if he had said booty call.Image

Did you catch the part when Kang Ho fell asleep at Sung-tae's place after eating fried chicken, and Sung-tae saved all the drumstick bones and put them to simmer with rice soup which they ate the following morning? Eeew. LOL. I guess that just shows how hard-up Sung-tae is and why he doesn't care how he behaves when it comes to eating free food (e.g. at the get-together in a restaurant with Bong-Sam and his high school buddies; remember when everybody left, he stayed to eat the remaining beef pieces left on the grill.) class blockquote pooka67 wrote:

I still have to re-watch ep 2 & 3. I understand Bong-Sam had an unpleasant childhood. I don't know maybe I'm sensitive, but he could have said it another way to mean this. class reveal Image class spoiler Anyway, later on Mi-Ok uses the same line on him.Image class blockquote pooka67 wrote:

Yeah, I wonder why the person who subtitled the version I saw used "booty call"? That label is an insult but "ex-gf" is not. I'm now wondering exactly what Kang Ho said in Korean if it was more insulting or not.

LOL, pook, on comment about Bong-Sam's apt. looking like exploded crayons.

Always Current Discussions of Different K-Dramas: K-DRAMA VIDEO CLUB!

Ay ya! I'm back! Those pesky DVDs are here and they're working! Never ever going to buy from this particular seller ever ever ever again!!!!!
I have to admit this series is very addictive! I couldn't help myself and got to #7 tonight. Technically, we should all be at episode #5 by Monday night. I'm going to give it a rest for a couple days so that I don't get too far ahead.

I really Mi Ok's socks. I hope they do a makeover on the poor girl soon. I find the mole distracting too, mostly because it's soo teeny. It looks like she forgot to wipe her face completely. Love how they made sure to put two very Korean looking stars (Hyun ah & Eric) with 2 very western looking stars (Mi ok and Bong Sam.)

Also, didn't you find it interesting when Sung Tae and Eric were talking about the Korean recession and when they blamed it on the US? I remember at the time that the US blamed our recession on Asia!

How in the world does Bong Sam have such a nice car and apt? Those exploded crayon furnishings & accessories must not be cheap!

Episodes 4/5

Ok, I'm finally caught up again as I watched episodes 4 and 5 last night to catch up and be on schedule.

Is there a site that has pictures/names of all the characters? I keep losing track of their names other than the main 4 characters.

Episodes 4 and 5 were great. I have to say so far episode 5 is my favorite amongst all of them.

A few things that jumped out at me were, remember when the boss and the software computer guy (manager from pfl forgot his name in SR) brought in Ho Kang to the conference room. And he kept asking them if there were mistakes. The computer guy kept making all these hilarious faces. I couldn't stop from laughing. They kept treating Ho Kang like a bum now, cause they realized he was the guy that got in by mistake. One of the bosses (forgot his name) who interviewed Ho Kang seems to have forgotten the good impression Ho made in the interview and he was called on it by the computer/software guy.

Also the scenes with the female co workers, the chubby one and the nosy one who's always following Bong Sam and Ho Kang around. They are priceless! What are their names? Remember that scene where the chubby one confronted Mi-ok and told her off? She told her she saw through her silent facade...

Episode 5 was my favorite one by far. The whole training scenes were priceless. My favorite scenes so far in the show. When Ho Kang got escorted by that japanese business man, and he refused his offer but got to sell his stock of women's underwear. Then after that whole event, one of his bosses alleged that he was cheating - then he goes, but what do I do with the order for 2000. Everyone was stunned.

Another question I have is, I get the impression so far that Hyeon-Ah is the daughter of either the owner or one of the top executives of LK?

Another funny scene was where Ho Kang's friend (what's his name?) was tutoring Min. And Min couldn't get it and he said to Min he would have thought he'd be at least smarter than his brother.

Remember the scene where one of the top executives arrives? He spoke some english, and he also helped congratulate the new LK graduates. Who exactly is he? The computer/software guy (guy from PFL) keeps talking to him as a superior.

Kevin from PFL is Director Koo and Kang's friend is Sung Tae. The superior that shows up is another vice president who has been inthe USA, he will be trouble later for everyone. He and Kevin's boss hate each other.

That's Director Koo and I think the Supervisor's name (the one who watches Dir. Koo's moves and is nice to Kang Ho) is Mr. Moon? Any1 know the VP's name? class blockquote GL05 wrote:

class reveal Image class spoiler She is the daughter (if I recall correctly, illegitimate too) of LK's President/CEO. class blockquote GL05 wrote:

He is one of LK's executives who seem to be at the same level as the boss to whom Director Koo kowtows. I think he got transferred to the branch where Kang Ho works.
