Yahhhh! Sr and addie are awesome to wait! That was my quandary the first time, to satisfy the agony of knowing why he didn't come back - versus the agony of MNIKSS ending even sooner. Waaaahhhh! I want to go to Seoul and live with these characters.
I didn't think Hee Jin was using anorexia to try to break up KSS and JH at all, it was an involuntary result to her real heartbreak. There really is plenty of pain here to go around for all three characters as they work throught this, and enough for Henry, too, althought we don't get to see his so much. We did finally get to see a glimmer of hope for Henry when he told HJ that he thinks she feels something for him in her heart and she said to herself in Korean, "oh, so that's what you're saying" even though she denied it to him. And, boy, could Henry have looked any cuter than when he was holding that pillow? You could almost hear the sighs echoing all over Korea during the original broadcast, no wonder Daniel Henney was such a hit.
Well, on to our ending, happy or not!

I'm back late I was visiting relatives for the big Easter Sunday dinner. I decided to watch the final episode after dinner and a few of my male cousins my age were wondering why I, a guy was watching this. As the final episode went on, more and more of my relatives who have never seen asian series in their lives started to slowly gather around and really got into this one. By the final moment, around 15 of my relatives of varying age and sexes were glued to the tv! My cousin liked it so much I let her borrow my box set, also a guy cousin my age borrowed my dvd recording of Emperor of the Sea. Talk about a K-Drama Easter event!
Where's everyone? I expected to come home late with lots of discussion about the final episode. I guess everyone else had Easter things to take care of.
Episode 16 was charming! Great quote bbstl, I think that sums up the final episode well.
So we finally found out Heon was gone for 2 months and did not even call her! SS and her family were so pissed. Heon decided to travel the US to learn more about the hotel industry as he toured the US and stayed at varying hotels to study how they are run, so he can eventually take on the family business. But apparently he's been sending all his postcards to the wrong address and he did not want to call her for fear he would get weak and go back home. Needless to say he comes home puzzled at her and her family's anger (since he couldn't figure out why she never got the postcards). As he returns, he comes back to her about to go out with that guy, the one heon interupted twice before. Must be fate that this is happening for a third time! The scene where SS details to Heon all the pain she's gone through in the last 2 months of not hearing from him was quite powerful. Perhaps for me, the most powerful scene of the series. My eyes were getting a little misty. ;) Only slightly misty. We guys can't cry, especially in front of the crowd. But at this point some of my relatives were really moved by this scene as well.
President Nah's assistant, orphan taken in also decides she wants to quit, travel the world and perhaps settle down. Is she ever ice cold in this episode. She's so apathetic looking, does she even have any feelings? Other than when she hugged Mi-joo. The scene where she leaves and Pres. Nah was sad was quite touching. I felt for Nah here. I felt her impending loneliness.
Hee Jin and Henry resolved their relationship nicely whe she asked him to wait for her. I liked that. I grew to like both characters by the end when I initially did not.
The scene with SS's sister and Chef lee were hilarious, but I thought way too underdeveloped. Did my dvd have problems or was the last scene with them where she threw out the stuffed pig and he vowed to return the next day. A little too abrupt and unfinished for my tastes as far as that relationship went.
The scene where SS and heon were about to do the deed was funny and sweet. Sweet as far as how she got him to profess his love, where he never could prior. I guess he has our male genetic inability to talk about our feelings. I can relate!  Then the funny scene where she wanted some protection...and he had to go around looking for it since some places didn't have it or were sold out.
Eventually they go to get Pres. Nah's blessing. They also tell her SS is pregnant. Nah fired back by saying ok, let's go to the OBGYN tomorrow. HAH. I love her character. Her brother was also present at the house (CEO from Funny Wild Girl), he's also sooo funny. When heon and ss told them it's trendy to date older women, he thought about doing the same. Now that Pres. Nah uped the stakes of the condition for her blessing, heon and SS went to do the deed to hopefully get pregnant. After which a touching scene where SS dreams of her father happens. They talk and he straightens her out, the quote where bbstl mentions up there takes place. Basically he wants her to live life in the now and enjoy it as much as she can instead of worrying about the past and future.
Now here comes my second and biggest gripe of the final episode. Some might disagree with me, but eventually the story takes a more narrative account of what happens. They continue their lives, SS and heon, but at the time were not able to get pregnant, nor get Pres. Nah's blessing, nor did they get married. The scene closes with the picture bbstl has up there where they kiss and the show comes to an end. However, there was no resolution. It's so open ended that it leaves the viewers wanting more or leaving it up to their imagination. I am reminded of the ending of Ruler of Your Own World here. But considering the style and pacing of MNIKSS I wanted the cliche, happy ending with a resolution - in other words, I expected some kind of a verified statement that it all worked out for both of them. That may be just me, but, I still felt I wanted to see more and less open ended.
Inspite of some minor gripes, I loved this. Another great, fun,and uplifting MBC series. I'm starting to think they are the masters of these types of dramas (this and Super Rookie). This is one of the few k-dramas along with Super Rookie where I intend on watching start to finish once again very soon, so I can catch all the little details now that I've seen the full scope of the storyline.
That's my take, I want to hear what you all thought!

Wow SR you were brave to watch this one in front of your family! My family could care less, it is great that they showed some intrest. But you took a risk to see this episode in front of others, you might have gotten that strange wind in your eye again!! LOL!! Even thought I had seen it a couple of months ago I was prepared with a drink and some emergency chocolate to stop my crying. Well at least slow it down some. LOL!
Ep 16-- Well SR you hit a lot of the high points already so lets see what I can add. Well we have Ki-Bang (or Hairry as Chef Lee calls him) giving poor In-Hae her first kiss!! I can just hear Cap gagging as In-Hae sits on that gross bathroom floor to cry about the crappy kiss! This episode had so many great lines that just make you stop and think about your life. You really have to thank the writers for doing such a fantastic job.
SS looking at the poster at the bus stop made me cry and then blind date guy shows up!! Now we should know better by now to think that date would turn out ok. So JH shows up finally. I love him and 50,000 sitting in the car trying to figure out what to do. I agree that the conversation between JH and SS before they straightened it all out was very touching. I also liked her speech to him in bed explaining to him why you have to tell the people you love that you do love them and not just keep it in your heart . Then she had to choke an I love you out of him. LOL! The condom scene was great, he looked like he was going to die when the school girls came in to the 7-11. Now HJ calls SS to thank her for making the food for her and for letting JH bring her back to the states. It also gives a chance to tie up her and Henry's relationship. I see that HJ is selfish all the way up to the end. Henry just tells her that he is getting to go do what he has always wanted to do and then she askes him to wait for her! Hello how long has this poor guy had to wait for her already! She is really the only character I don't like that much in this series. She just bugged me!
So when SS has to go see Mrs. Nah to try to get her blessing we get to see the Uncle( old nose picking guy from FWG) again. He had me laughing when he found out it is trendy to date an older woman and then he says maybe he should get an older woman too. Oh man are there that many 100 year old Korean women looking for a man? LOL!! So JH has to resort to the SS is pregnant story again! His mom sure caught him with that one fast, hey let's go see my OB-GYN friend! So after the emergency marathon baby making fest they both have bloody noses! LOL! Again I start to cry when SS is talking to her dad in her dream. He was so sweet to her, I love his words of wisdom along the lines of you can't worry about what might happen just try to be happy life is too short. Check out BB's quote above for the exact words.
Now as for the ending when I first saw this I told BB I was mad at the ending but after a big deep breath and a little bit of letting it sink in I really loved the ending. I think for me if it had ended up in a wedding or baby it would have been less meaningful for me. I, like the rest of Korea like the realness of SS and her situations. This ending was real life not every situation has an easy or happy ending. They are just moving ahead like the rest of us, trying to be happy. I was glad to see they were still together and still in love but like all of us they have their ups and downs. In my own mind I think they will have the big happy ending but I like the fact that they leave us with an open ending. Now I am done crying for the evening and can't wait to hear some other views....I am sure I will have to add to this later.
But really I don't think we get to enjoy shows that are much better than this one!! BRAVO Sam Soon!!! My Hero!! AZA AZA!!!

I thought his reasons for not calling were very lame but it made for an interesting twist.
I loved the ending. It was realistic. I usually don't like them since I am the biggest fan of Cinderella endings. Since Sam Soon was never perfect, the ending seem to fit.
P.S. Pook - Thanks - I almost forgot about the kiss in the bathroom. LOL Nice.

I certainly meant to post before this . I kept hanging back last evening because I wanted to be sure everyone had seen it .
What a finish ! I don't know yet how I feel about it .I guess I was not surprised that President Nah would not give consent .Maybe it would take a lot longer for SS to win her over .I'm not sure why she is so rigid .After all ,SS had a hand in MiJoo's recovery AND with JH's now working for the hotel ...personally , I think a 3 year age difference is nothing. I also know there are cultural factors that I don't totally understand >SS personality would have won me over !
I felt so sad for KSS when she was at the bus stop. I couldn't believe JH didn't call or write - was he a complete cad ? On the other hand ,that scene with the spoony blind date was hilarious .How could it be the same guy ?( 3 strikes ,buddy ) That was a funny twist ! Anyway ,JH's explanation was plausible ,especially once she got the postcards .
There were a lot of loose ends ,but I don't know if they will do a sequel (does anyone ?) The chef and the sister were totally unresolved . And while I was ok with the ending with SS & JH ,I would hate to think they would NEVER get to get married .
Man < those K M-I-L's how scary .
I also wanted to mention the relative who was Pres Nah's assistant who decided to hit the road .That actress was really interesting > I think SR said she was cold ,but I always thought she was sedated .Her character seemed totally out of sync with what was going on ,and nonreactive to same . She made me think of someone who is on drugs .I wonder where she was going with that portrayal .Certainly she was unhappy ,and I felt sorry for her when she said " I got old ". I think it was good that she went on that trip.
Henry & HeeJin : I started pulling for Henry pretty early on ,but thought he deserved better than Hee Jin >What a nice guy ! Henry was nice to the end ,but he still gave HeeJin an ultimatum. I'm glad she finally got it .(He's a keeper ) I'm glad Henry was going to wait for her . I think they make a nice couple .
I'm glad this show is in my library .I know I will be enjoying it for years to come ! I could start it over now !
Sr - good on you ! I hope you made some Kdrama converts .That is exactly how it starts ,you know . I was in Hawaii ,flipping the dials ....got a look at Lee Dong Gun in "Sweet 18 " and the rest is history >>>
Did anyone try to watch "Jewel in the Palace ?" I made a discovery about myself .I don't know why ,but I don't like to see Korean traditional costume unless somebody is getting married !  It is a fault of mine !!!

addie, I know Captiva tried to let buppy know she can watch her missing episodes on youtube right away without a complicated download, but buppy's PM box is full. I know the youtube subs aren't very good, unfortunately. I'll send her my 7th disc if no one can advise how to burn one, but I know it'll get there faster from one of you guys nearby. I'll leave word on the gen disc thread also.
