Re: Always Current Discussions of Different K-Dramas: K-DRAMA VIDEO CLUB!
I think the ending is great also, because it's so true to life as is so much of this drama. Many of the situations may have been ridiculous but the emotions were all very real, and that's why I love it so. I actually think the best quote from the whole show is this one: class center
"Sometimes I think we might break up someday. That's how love is. But I won't be afraid of it now. It's clear what I must do now. Bake cakes diligently and love diligently like today is my last...like I've never been hurt, and love myself, Kim Sam Soon, more."
The first time I heard her say "sometimes I think we might break up someday" it just killed me. Then I thought about my married friends and how often over the course of a marriage they think they might be headed toward divorce. These thoughts do cross your mind, and then you work through them. I'm sure KSS and Sam Sik will get married, that President Nah will finally, finally be forced by her own loneliness to cave in and do what's right for her only son. She said herself that she was so worried about him ever since the accident, that he would go off the deep end - she just needs time to see how he settles down with the mature and responsible KSS.
I've always hated the Secretary Sook character but think maybe I've finally figured out why she's there - it's to show what happens when you follow the path of least resistance, stay in the comfort zone and don't commit to love with the diligence that it requires. Hee Jin asked her what happened, 3 years earlier it looked like she was about to get married and the answer was something like "it was harder than I thought to move to another nest". Love and romance passed her by while she was nice and cozy and not paying attention to time passing as well.
My favorite two funny things in this episode have to be 1) Sam Sik's face changing from sooo self-satisfied that he's pulled the ultimate fast one on his mother: "she's pregnant" - to utter defeat when Pres. Nah trumps him with the best friend OB-GYN, and 2) the joke on all the bloody noses that we see in every single Korean drama - we even saw several in this one earlier! - when we see that the baby-making got so strenuous that they BOTH got bloody noses! And still, ready to go back for more! I laughed even harder at that than at the karaoke!
So now everyone can go read all the MNIKSS threads with no worry about spoilers, hurray! Last weekend there were something called the "Paeksang Awards" in Seoul, which appear to be independent awards (not affiliated with networks) given to movies, dramas and actors. Hyun Bin won a "Most Popular" award, and as far as I can tell the only award won by MNIKSS was for Screenplay. Hear, Hear, I say!

yahhhh, addie. Come on, we're getting sucked in to WS. It's not dated, it's "Classic". And we agree at least one guy is spoony (NOT Bae).

Always Current Discussions of Different K-Dramas: K-DRAMA VIDEO CLUB!
Oh you lovely people! Thanks for the concern everyone! I was able to watch a really fuzzy video of episodes 13 & 14 on youtube. The subs were excellent though! I'm done with the series and I absolutely loved it! No wonder it was so popular!
I honestly thought Jin Hyun was a jerk in the beginning because he cut Sam Soon's hair off and he seemed so cold. 15 episodes later my mind has changed! And has it! He's a hottie! The romance between Sam Soon and Hyun Bin grew and became very believable and touching by the end.
I have to say that I did not like the ending as much. I think one of the charming aspects of Korean dramas is how traditional everyone is -- getting married, having sex (in that order), having babies, respecting their elders.
I'm upset they were not married and the line about parting someday just seems like a real cop-out. It makes me feel like the writers are saying that women who are not perfect, not thin, not pretty don't deserve the best. If they can snag a good-looking, rich, loving man then be happy because you can't expect him to marry you and stay with you forever. As a mom, I just don't like that message. There's that old Korean saying that my father was oh so fond of saying during my 10-year courtship with my husband -- "Why he buy the cow if he alway get free milk!!!!"
But I do love her soliloquy at the end where she says she wants to love and bake cakes. I just love Sam Soon's personality! I wish I could find a friend like Sam Soon.

Yahhhh, bup! we're so glad you found a way to see everything. We were freaking!
LOLOL about your dad's saying! But OMG, I think it's the International "dad" saying! It crosses generations, too - my grandmother heard it and I'm sure one day your son's wife will have heard it! What a howler.
Sam Soon just said she thinks sometimes they might break up someday. There's no way that's going to happen. I think we all have bad days and think, "AAUUGGHHH! That's the last straw! I'm out of here!" Or it's her way of being prepared for what she considers reality, like car accidents and fathers who die suddenly. Of course, I refuse to think that Sam Sik could stop loving her! It's impossible. If they did break up it would be her decision.
I just hate that our viewing is over, I miss all the characters! I want to know what they're all doing now.

SR. SR! YAH! You know the answer to your question. You know this group. Which recent AZN dramas did we detest? "Secret" and "EOTS". For which recent AZN dramas did some of us drop out and/or complain about, in addition to dull stories, bad acting, dreadful music, terrible costumes, awful locations, cheap props and/or low quality of ironing - lack of spoony men? "Secret" and "EOTS". "Super Rookie" and "ROYOW", both busts for me - no spoons! As Meg Ryan said in "When Harry Met Sally" - you do the math.
BUT let's hear from everyone else.

I was horribly let down by the ending of EOTS. I won't spill the beans but you wouldn't believe it, not in a million years! All I can say is that some very sick sado-masochistic people conceived of, wrote, directed this drama! I did enjoy parts of it although absolutely no one qualified as spoony! Same with Secret, no spoon! And while we're at it, no spoon for Winter Sonata (although I"ve only seen about 4 episodes so far), no spoon for Super Rookie (although Eric is appealing, just not spoony). Definite spoon for Fashion 70's, Full House, Sam Soon (those dimples on that guy!!!hubba hubba)
BBstl, I too wonder what our characters are doing now! I'd like to believe that Sam Soon and Sam Shik (what a cute nickname) are married, that Samsuni.com is successful, and that old curmudgeon President Nah is cuddling a Sam Shik Jr. I'd also hope that Sam Soon did not put on the extra 10 or 20 lbs that every woman gets after having a baby, cuz that would make Sam Shik look like a toothpick standing next to her!
