Haha yes I thought about the same thing at that scene. In our DVDs they type it as "Silla" or something.

Re: Super Rookie Episode 7
class blockquote GL05 wrote:
...This show has the best facial expressions ever! Just seeing all their surprised and funny faces has me in stitches...I agree! Mr. Koo is my favorite character so far. I admire the actor who plays him. On PFL, he played this serious, level-headed, uncle-like figure to Gun Hee, but on this show, he's this uptight, high-strung boss trying to cover his tracks. I was really surprised to see him in this character because I've gotten used to his character's personality on PFL. He really made the two characters distinct such that I had difficulty recognizing, at first, that it was the same actor. I didn't realize he could be so funny. The second character that cracks me up is District Manager Kim. He and Director Koo make a hilarious pair.
I was laughing so hard at the scene when Sung-tae was tutoring Min. The look on his face as if he was ready to kill Min was just too funny. Then he lightly hit Min on the head out of frustration and he hurt his hand, but Min was unfazed, lol.
I can't believe the office violence on this show like when District Mgr Kim threw all his paperwork at Director Koo after getting rebuked for sending a rookie (Kang Ho) to an important negotiation. I wonder if employees in Korea actually put up with such treatment or such behavior is acceptable or expected from their superiors. Imagine, Mr. Koo is a director yet he is still subjected to such humiliation. Judging from the show's description of LK, for Mr. Koo to be a director in a world-class company like LK, he has to have top-notch education and respectable background (cream of the crop). Then only to be treated the way District Mgr. Kim treats him when he has erred is just so undignified and well, makes for a better comedy.
It turns out that the leader/boss of the group demanding $5 million compensation from LK is the same guy that Kang Ho replaced to fight that Miyazake guy whom he eliminated with one roundhouse kick back in ep 2, I think. So Kang Ho's friend (Gweng-pil from PFL) knows this leader and told him to pay his respects to Kang Ho. He then told the group leader that Sung-tae will show/clarify for them why $1 million is more than enough as compensation for his party. I suppose because the party leader owes Kang Ho one, he had to cooperate and accept the $1 million compensation from LK.
No wonder Bong-sam hates Kang Ho so much because Kang Ho and his friends used to steal Bong-sam's only meal back in elementary/high school days and tease him about his mom abandoning him and his drunk dad. Then after years of working hard to improve his life, Bong-sam finds himself in the same level (in his eyes even lower level) than Kang Ho (a slacker with a lot of luck) in society. That's why he's so bitter!
--- I do as I please.

Always Current Discussions of Different K-Dramas: K-DRAMA VIDEO CLUB!
Apparently it's a double joke about Min studying - not only is he dumb, but it's also a joke about the Korean method of teaching memorization for tests. There have been, and I guess continue to be, many objections that Korean students have facts and figures drilled into their heads in order to pass the college entrance exams but can't actually apply knowledge in the real world. So that's why it's so funny that Min continually picks some idiotic fact out of what he's reading or what Sung Tae says and keeps repeating it, trying to memorize it even though we can see it's meaningless.

Episode 8
Thanks for the insight on that bbstl. I don't know much of Korean culture so that was informative contextual information.
I watched episode 8 a bit earlier this afternoon instead of waiting tonight for the normal viewing. I couldn't wait. I thought this was one of the weaker episodes. It wasn't as comedic or as eventful, but in the lowkey moments it was laying the foundations for a lot of future potential storylines with the Song and Bong Sam meetings.
Things picked up in the end though when the focus shifted to Mi-Ok's firing. I really liked these chain of scenes with Ho Kang helping her and marshalling the troops to fight against the decision Moon and Koo made. I'm a little annoyed that Moon, Koo and the other staffers are so heartless and uncaring at this point. Maybe i'm too much of a humanist and optimist. ;) Anyway as I've said before I really like Ho Kang's character. He's like the archetypal funny, humble good guy, underdog mold. I really like that he's sticking up for the people he cares for. He's just "cool."
I can't get enough of this show. It's the ultimate fell good show I've ever seen.
I type this as I've had the Super Rookie track 6 - Shi Jak - Choi Jin Young track on loop for the last 3 hours. Anyone else addicted to this track? It plays during the end of the episodes (I think).
Speaking of which, does the actual show have previews/credits? This DVD set pooka, captiva and I got doesn't have much of an intro/no ending/no credits list. Was it like this or did they just edit it out?

Re: Always Current Discussions of Different K-Dramas: K-DRAMA VIDEO CLUB!
class blockquote The next day she did find the note where Kang had written that she was BS ' ex and if you notice the drawing of BS had huge ears!! (BB and Cap I can hear you laughing now!!)You guessed that right! It was too funny!
B - Did I say Mr. Moon was cute? But you're right. He is attractive.
I am off to try and find out what I can. The supporting cast was so great, it's a shame that we don't know about them. In the PFL set and MSG movie all the credits are in Korean.
Right now I'm watching American TV. We taped the season finale of Arrested Development. Anyone else watch it?

Re: Always Current Discussions of Different K-Dramas: K-DRAMA VIDEO CLUB!
In the Arrested Development episode I watched tonight there was a part that everyone would have found funny. In the show series there has always been a frozen banana stand. It showed a flash back to earlier days and showed a Korean employee that helped out at their banana stand. All of the employees were let go and then it showed him selling frozen bananas on the N. and S. Korean border . Later in the show a little boy showed up in present day time and they explained he was a son of the man they sent back to Korea. They said his name was " anyong haseyo" but his real name was "hello" . I broke out laughing because YAY! I got the joke!

You know I'm not sure what happened at the construction site that helped Kang Ho resolve the dispute either! It was very confusing and there was no Korean spoken that helps illuminate the situation. I think they cut some scenes out or there's something else going on, some background info or cultural info that we're just not getting b/c we're in America. I don't understand how Gweng Pil's gang could dominate over that gang of toughs that look like Korean Mafia.
Captiva, thanks for the cast list!
