I actually hate Haein's father much more than Haein.
It's disgusting how he treats his wife as if she is his slave.
Even in the Korean culture, most Korean men don't act like that (at least not to that degree).
If I was his son, I'd beat him over the head with a bat every time he treated my mother like that.
Anyway, I totally agree that Jongnam is the most likable character.
And why does Sukyun's mom (Nara?) have so much power over her husband. Does she own the company?

My absolute favorite character is Haein's mother. She cracks me up. I love her personality and I think she's really cute, too. As for her husband, he's only as tyrannical as she has allowed him to be. We've seen him cooperate and loosen up now and again when he's put to the fire. For all their complaints, they both feed off each other and enjoy it on a certain level, in my opinion.
So far, I haven't seen a girl that I'd match up with Kiwoong. Jongnam should be with Sukhyun. Haein? She's trophy wife material—the prim and proper and pretty wife who will never break a sweat, fitting perfectly into Nara's plans. I can't really see her in Kiwoong's household.
I think Sukhyun is already beginning to see (ever so slightly, at this point) that Haein is a total drag compared to Jongnam, who is introducing him to the idea of stepping outside his box. Sukhyun is even imitating Jongnam's behavior, like with dipping Haein's food in the sauce, as Jongnam had introduced to him.
Haein seems to be someone who doesn't want to be put outside her comfort zone, or experience new things. Sukhyun would have had much more fun with Jongnam walking the rocks, and seemed a little annoyed by her weakness and complaining about her discomfort.
Why does Nara have so much power? I think we're still waiting to find the answer to that one. I don't recall that the home shopping network company belongs to her family, but that may be true. Still, there is something else that Nara has over the others. The most troubling scene to me was when the Grandmother was ranting at K-Mom, telling her that she owes Nara big time and should be bowing and scraping to her. Since Nara hasn't really showered any wealth or favors on Kiwoong's family (that we've seen, anyway), there must be another reason for her power.

How, sorry about that spoiler thing Nchristi. I was a little too excited at that point.
At this point forward, I see there is more of a Sukhyun and Jongnam relationship developing more than Haien and Kiwoong.

I didn't start watching until this week. I've read everyones' posts, so I think I'm caught up. I haven't been watching any of the dramas as I've been catching up on some dvds of jdramas and kdramas. I like the characters so far and with so many storylines, maybe it won't get as tiresome as MDMS and OMR was. I'm hooked! I gtg on program the vcr!

I still do not like SukHyun too much. The unfolding of the plot thus far, however, has made me like him more than Haein.
Although SukHyun is arrogant and proud, he is also calculating - as Haein apparently is as well. The episodes seem to focus more on his calculating than on hers, but at least SukHyun appears to have a bit of a conscience. His locking Jongnam in the studio was despicable, and he may have been cowardly in buying her dinner and perfumr and paying for her hospital bills, but at least, he tried to compensate for his actions.
(As well, when SukHyun and Haein had lunch at the cafe where Okdoo works, SukHyun bluntly told Haein not to hurt Kiwoong. He explained that his cousin is not a calculating person (in other words, he's innocent and clueless). Haein had no response.)
I frankly cannot see Haein showing this kind of remorse. I don't know that I'm not being too harsh - as I've written before, Kiwoong took her all the way to Cheju Island for a fun day, and she had the affrontery to tell him to his face that he has no future. One would think that with a good friend (a decade-old friendship) would have known Kiwoong well enough to phrase such comments without being hurtful. Haein didn't care.
The two people I am crossing my fingers to get their comeuppance are Haein and Nara.
Oh, and Okdoo is SO annoying. I know dramas exaggerate everyday life, but the way she talks (so princessy and with an overdone femininity) ... if I were her older brother I'd yell at her as well. ANd to think this is a 37 year old divorced woman. non-Asian, or Caucasian-American viewers probably don't see women older than 16 who talk that way.

Well,folks,it's about to hit the fan on two fronts : K's family is going to find out that H is really going with S
and Okdoo is going to find out that S father ,Jaeman ,aka "Mr Kim " is not a widower after all ! I also believe if Byongdoo gets even an inklng that Jaeman is still a playboy,,,well he would withdraw his approval so fast !! It wouldn't matter if H& S were truly in love(which I doubt-don't feel much passion there )
Which brings to mind other questions
1) why is this courtship moving so fast ?
2) if Nara controls the money(she already wears the pants) will she divorce jaeman after this latest comes out ?
3)does anyone think H's aunt has the sense to keep her mouth shut
?
4) do I ask too many questions ?

Hello everyone! I'm a new member here, but I've been following your posts for quite some time now, and I just wanted to say how much I appreciate your thoughts on all the dramas. I'm in SoCal btw.
Just some of my thoughts on the drama so far..
It just annoys me the way Nara talks about Jongnam, as if she has no right to be a part of the family. This also happened in My Sweetheart, My Darling, where the mom treated IY the same way, because she was rich and IY wasn't as wealthy. I wonder if Nara is heading down the same path..
SukHyun only seems to be dating Haein out of convenience, and to please his mom. I think they're hinting that he has feelings for Jongnam, because he was thinking about what she said at the mall right before he fell asleep.
I felt sorry for Kiwoong, how he couldn't tell his family about Haein because his family was so happy. =(
It'll probably be interesting when SukHyun's dad meets Haein's aunt at the family meeting. I can't wait to see their reactions!
I think Nara has so much power partially because she was rich from the beginning (I think). If you look at Kiwoong's parents, and Jongnam's mom, they're not as wealthy as Nara and Jaeman. So Jaeman probably became wealthy because of Nara. However, I don't think Nara's wealth is the only reason why this family seems to owe so much to her. I mean, they seem to all listen to her.
Does anyone know what Jaeman's occupation is? He seems to have a lot of free time going to the cafe and acting all poetic..
Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed the "opposites attract" in korean dramas and then the daughter-in-laws having to suffer under the jealous mothers? lol
