K-Drama: 별난여자, 별난남자 (The Bizarre Bunch/Peculiar Woman,Man)
HappyAjushee--I think you did get both posts in--you are so right about Korean culture and language being tied in together. I got hooked on these dramas at the beginning with My Precious Child and I watched because I like learning about other cultures and I was fascinated by the reserved nature of those in love--there is very little public expression of affection--that's what got me hooked at the beginning because the dramas are a bit cliched--the same things tend to happen in all the dramas--like a get gets lost; someone gets hurt and is in a coma for awhile; lovers are separate etc; you always meet to talk at cofffehouses; there'salways an evil stepmother--but I like the stories, and I love the cultural difference. I love their breakfast that looks just like their dinner--rice and side dishes--I keep screaming--where's the eggs? Ah silly Americans.

K-Drama: 별난여자, 별난남자 (The Bizarre Bunch/Peculiar Woman,Man)
Professor972: I presume you are not Asian. I am Pilipino and I grew up eating rice morning, noon and night. But I could not imagine having soup in the morning. I went to China last year and they do serve rice soup called "congee". It was very delicious and satisfying. I always like something hot in the morning like a freshly brewed cup of coffee, if none, I could go for congee.
But I also got hooked on k-drama because of less sex & violence. Although most of k-drama tend to overplay the love triangle, rich vs. poor, evil mother-in-laws, etc. , I still like the story that love conquers all. Also, I have not seen a k-drama where the children, mistreated or abused their parents. No matter how bad the parents are, they still get respect from their children like that drama "Beautiful Days" starring Lee Byunghun and Choi Ji Woo.

Re: K-Drama: 별난여자, 별난남자 (The Bizarre Bunch/Peculiar Woman,Man)
Just saw tonight's episode (#28).
I will remark about SukHyun, but if you read it - it's a spoiler.
class reveal class spoiler SukHyun appears not to be the heartless, cold, immoral wretch he may have seemed to be. As I said earlier, he has a conscience.
class reveal class spoiler He felt genuinely sad and hurt when he spotted his own uncle (and in Korean culture, this is HUGE - to see your own dad's brother toiling away at a menial, humbling job). I liked it when he stood up for his family against his mother and had the guts to tell her he was disappointed in her - he has shown more spine than his own dad towards Nara.
class reveal class spoiler Jaeman showed his decent side for the first time by proactively reaching out to Minsook. (Oh - and the earlier spat in which Kiwoong's grandmother scolds Minsook over money showed that indeed, Nara came from a wealthy family.) And the fact that Minsook showed none of the resentment she's shown to Nara shows that Jaeman at least hasn't been as arrogant as his own wife.
class reveal class spoiler My heart went out to Jaedo. He must certainly have felt very badly about his mother and daughter and brother finding out all at once he was given an 'early retirement' and had to park cars to feed his family.
class reveal class spoiler Dajung finally showed a little judgment. Seeing her crying away on the computer keyboard after she learned of her dad's situation finally (apparently perhaps) made her realize how spoiled and selfish she's been. I only wish the producers had shown that scene when she yelled at her dad about not getting promoted and when Minsook slapped at her for her dad not having even one decent suit.
class reveal class spoiler Finally, Minsook was vindicated. Her mother- and brother-in-law all thought Jaedo was doing this because of Minsook - but she had nothing to do with it.

Re: K-Drama: 별난여자, 별난남자 (The Bizarre Bunch/Peculiar Woman,Man)
About Episode 28 again:
class reveal class spoiler As for SukHyun's conscience - when he learns the watch JongNam lost was fake and he learns it cost a measly $100 dollars, his guilt at JongNam spending all her money to repay him must have shook him internally.
class reveal class spoiler I also liked it that he didn't mind telling Byungdoo the truth. I predict this honesty will at least partially warm Byungdoo towards SukHyun.
Oh, and class reveal class spoiler Nara is DESPICABLE. I hate class reveal class spoiler her even more than I hated Kijoon's mother in MSMD.

Re: K-Drama: 별난여자, 별난남자 (The Bizarre Bunch/Peculiar Woman,Man)
Interesting comments ,Happy A ! About tonight's episode in LA ,anyway ,I will just say OH SHOOT ,and ah chihuahua. I guess I shouldn't have thought that all this stuff would come out in one evening.
And now, I'd like to say a word about breakfasts.I've been lucky enough to have travelled a lot . It's been fascinating to see ( and try to eat ) what people eat in other countries. In Ireland and Britain-eggs,bacon,sausage and tomato..plus porridge and bread.(after that I coulg go plow a field) In Scandinavia-pickled herring and wasa bread. In germany-black bread liverwurst and cheese.
New Zealand was a real trip because they tried to please everyone- eggs, sausage tomato, baked beans (spam?)rice ,miso, vegemite, peanut butter,TABASCO(yes, that did my Angeleno heart good ) plus much more.
I'll be ready when I go to Asia !

FYI, episode 28 is not considered a spoiler on this board because Southern California has already air it. But it's always safer to use the spoiler icon so people can have a choice to read it or not.
