Re: K-Drama: 별난여자, 별난남자 (The Bizarre Bunch/Peculiar Woman,Man)
Yes, I agree with addie04. Haein IS likeable, but the fact that she treats Kiwoong so lowly is beyond me. I mean, I know she's a great girl, she really is, but must you have to put down a man so harshly? Just like when she told him she he had no dreams or goals. She never gives anything a chance. She would rather go for things that are easier and the best for her rather than taking risks. She's still young in her life, and she seems like she doesn't even want to have fun. That is why she contrasts Jongnam so much. That's why we like Jongnam alot more than Haein. Jongnam overshadows her because of good heart and fun spirit. Maybe THAT'S why we are not to fond of Haein because of the fact that Jongnam is just.......the greater character.

K-Drama: 별난여자, 별난남자 (The Bizarre Bunch/Peculiar Woman,Man)
Well said pmellia. I see no obvious "faults" in Haein. She might be a bit brash and offensive when saying things, like the incident in Jeju-do, but she's still a nice person. She doesn't go around pretending that "she's all that," which makes her a bit more likeable. It almost seems like we're comparing JN to HI and therein lies the reason why we might dislike HI's personality. JN is so vibrant, and fun-loving and that's the kind of person I could picture myself being friends with. HI needs to sort out her priorities. Her relationship with SH is very formal. They go out, talk, then come back home. They're emotionally connected at all. HI and KW, on the other hand, have that connection. She's just a tad mean, I guess you could say, from living under her father's influence all these years. She's a very very good version of Mija from Rosy Life. She wants the good life, and a good man, but she's not exactly looking for love to make her happy.

Yep -- agree w/all -- Haein treats Kiwoong like a pair of old shoes . . . comfortable, but definitely not socially appropriate. Plus, I think she's one of those passive-aggressive types who w/bite the hand that feeds her, and, I get the feeling we'll soon see her true colors.
Pre-empting for soccer, it's a good thing,
GO. . . GO . . . K !!!
but . . . w/o my daily dose of BB, it w/be like a day w/o sunshine

K-Drama: 별난여자, 별난남자 (The Bizarre Bunch/Peculiar Woman,Man)
I think Haein represents the cultural traditions of the East where marriage was not based on romantic love but was more a social position. Haein seems to love her job--she doesn't need Sukhyun to give her status, but she does need him to help her gain even more prominence in society. I think Nara has said the same--Sukhyun could have many Haeins. Jongaim , on the other hand, represents romantic love and the draw that it can have even when there is no possibility of social status being gained.
In my opinion, these Korean dramas are all looking at the cultural crisis going on in South Korea now--so much Western influence has occurred that has placed in jeopardy 100s of years of tradition. Remember Sukhyun said to Nara once--"I will never disappoint you." Good children do not go against their parents' will even if that means they must leave their true love. Younger people honor and respect their elders even when those elders unjustly slap them in the face. It's only here in Western society where we scream injustice when the rights of an individual are violated.
So while these stories appear to be stories of love--they are all framed within the present conflict of traditional ways versus Western ways that is now occurring. In Western cultures, the individual's rights are prized; in Eastern society things are much more interconnected because the good of the group outweighs the needs of the individual.
I'm sure true love may triumph here--but it will be a triumph not without deep sorrow and heartbreak for all involved. Haein is probably disliked by us because she seems rather unemotional, unfeeling. Life to her seems to be a carefully calculated exercise in which one does what is required of them--and marriage to the likes of Sukhyun is expected. So she dates him as is expected, and signs on to marry him because that is how she will fulfill the obligation of her life. Jongaim is the orphan, untied to the traditions of a society which has treated her very poorly and for which she had constantly had to battle in order just to survive.
Anyway that's my 2 cents worth.

Re: K-Drama: 별난여자, 별난남자 (The Bizarre Bunch/Peculiar Woman,Man)
WELCOME, lettle! Thanks for joining us!
My two cents on Haein.... She turned me off from the start the way she treated (mistreated) Kiwoong. She was either born without woman's intuition, or she doesn't care about hurting Kiwoong's feelings. In either case, I can't imagine anyone handling Kiwoong's proposal on Jeju-do the insulting, cold-hearted way she acted—especially after he made such an elaborate setting, the ring presentation and all.
Haein also represents (to me) sort of a baby version of Nara in the making (not the nastiness, but cold, unaffectionate, lacking the joie de vivre of life). She doesn't express positive feelings very often and more frequently takes the negative turn.
Example: When Sukhyun asked Jongnam why she wasn't asking him about why he was late, Jongnam was the perfect, non-nagging woman. It was unimportant, it didn't matter to her, since Sukhyun didn't do it on purpose. Haein would have zeroed in immediately on where he was, who he was with, he made her wait, etc. Just what a man hates most—being interrogated by the woman in his life—especially a man like Sukhyun, whose mother is the ultimate controlling nag. Not only is Jongnam a blessed relief but also she is pure joy to him in her innocent, positive exuberance in life.
Wasn't it yummy at the amusement park when he was staring at her face while she rested on the park bench? Reminded me of the scene in I'm Sorry, I Love You—adjushi's eyes, adjushi's nose...adjushi's lips....
Loved your comments on Kiwoong actor, star1. He really is very good at subtle facial expressions that could fill a page. Very sensitive. As I've said before, I've always liked this actor, and think he has a lot going on besides playing some of the seemingly limited roles I've seen him in of late. I'm very happy to see him in this role.
addie04, in my notes (which are sketchy), I have episode 52, 54, 55. However, it doesn't seem that we've missed anything much here. Perhaps they edited out the very beginning of episode 53 and combined it with part of 54, or even 52.
I have noticed that we've missed some scenes that have been referred to. Did we see the scene in which the photo of Sukhyun and Jongnam was taken at the park (the one Nara found)? (Maybe there was a lot more at the amusement park and they deleted all that.) Also, the scene that Okdoo tells Haein's parents about Sukhyun and Haein arguing about Kiwoong and sending him to China. (to China?) And what was the conversation at the café, where Okdoo and Loverboy talk about her niece marrying his son! (How did THAT conversation come about!?) I suspect we've seen all of episode 53 that they might want us to see, just not the beginning where it shows the episode number.

Re: K-Drama: 별난여자, 별난남자 (The Bizarre Bunch/Peculiar Woman,Man)
Hi folks -
I just joined your board. I am watching in NYC - WMBC Channel 63.....We are a couple of weeks behind - about seven pages of comments on this board. I enjoy reading all your comments and analysis. I am a new convert to K-dramas and I didn't see either this one or A Farewell to Tears from the beginning. I started with Japanese dramas but there are more of the Korean ones on here. Bizarre Bunch is on five nights a week and Farewell to Tears Saturday and Sunday nights. At first I had trouble figuring out who was who but I have pretty much caught on and really enjoy them.

Re: K-Drama: 별난여자, 별난남자 (The Bizarre Bunch/Peculiar Woman,Man)
Why does KBS take so long to transmit the drama peculiar man and woman ? The last few nights it's been 11:00 p.m.. I usually like to download my dramas in the early morning.
Thanx
