I spoke with mike(?) @ KBSLA this pm.He said that BB would not be preempted this week,and his notes said they are showing eps 57-61 this week. He did not know what happened with the skipped episode. I told him I belonged to an internet discussion group ,and while it was ok with the one episode ,we noticed .
He said " C/J/K forum ? " .I said yes .
We then talked about the fact that they have a lot of non-korean speaking people watching their programming,although he said they really don't know how much because they don't have a monitoring system such as Neilsen . I told him I thought it was a lot more than they think . I know I was watching Kdramas for a year before I found this board. Anyway ,he wanted me to convey to you that they appreciate us,and that they are starting a new variety show in May on the weekend.It will be totally bilingual/subtitled ,and it will be along the lines of "American Idol " The winner will win a management contract in Korea. there...message delivered.
Back to BB . I am counting the minutes ! I feel like we're back in MSMD ,without the angst (although that could still happen )
Pooka -I just want "our " Kiwoong to be happy, The Ice princess does worry me .
We will have to wait and see . BTW ,if I have to share Kiwoong ,I'm glad it's with you

AHHH, 10 more minutes till TBB, it's killing me! I'm introducing my friend to Korean Dramas since she was an avid fan of J dramas. I'm about to watch this show with her now, and I'm excited! I think more people will come to this board sooner than you think!

I had given up on writing here because so many of you are so far ahead. However, tonight's episode (ancient #48) was too much for me not to say anything. YOu guys may not respond to it since it's old news for you. But, I'm going to write anyway.
Kiwoong was SO irresponsible.
For those of you who aren't Korean - Kiwoong embarrassed not only himself, but his own parents, in front of his cousin, sister, aunt (JOngnam's mom) - in front of Haein. In fact, he embarrassed his grandmother - the eldest member in the clan and hence, the one person who is never to be made to lose face!
While I can understand the fear he had in disappointing his grandmother, it was his responsibility to make her aware before such an event occurred. He placed Haein and Sukhyun and S's parents in an extremely awkward position.
Whatever fracas that might have ensued ("thankfully" Grandma simply fainted) would have been Kiwoong's fault. If Grandma had thrown a fit, the only thing the other adults could have done was to tell her to calm down. In a western setting, I could see adult sons raising their voices to the tone of "commands" to settle an unruly senior citizen. This is quite hard, to put it MILDLY, in a Korean setting.
Kiwoong's failure to settle this INTERNALLY without putting his cousin and Haein on the spot ruined what was to have been a happy family occasion - the birthday party of Sukhyun's father. For once I can't blame Sukhyun's mother for being critical towards Kiwoong. This time, he BLEW it.
OK, back to your regularly scheduled programming. Where are you guys now? Episode 60? 65? 70?

HappyAJushee, I'm on episode 48 as well. I agree with your interpretation on what Kiwoong did. It was irresponsible, and Haein should not have been blamed at all.
Jongnam and Sukhyun! Chicken Feet! Messy Face! Amusment park ticket! HUZZAH! I really love the interaction between these two characters so far. Lovin it Lovin it Lovin it. Sukhyun is so playful around Jongnam. It's quite adorable.

Your whole 2 cents worth was very well-worded, Professor. Thank you for acknowledging the Asian culture versus the Western culture. Speaking as a Korean-American experiencing life abundantly with great pride in both cultures, I see Haein symbolic for "love as a duty" and Jongnam representing true, genuine, passionate love.

No, really, it's the over-achiever type of upbringing. I can understand because I have certainly lived through that with my own strict father. My father was very dominant in the household - his way or the highway. My mother remained silent most of the time, but had a great knack of healing my emotional wounds with her soft, patient and wise words. Boy, did I rock the family boat when I announced my serious romantic relationship with a Caucasian male and how he and I wanted to marry. I was the family rebel. There were many times when my father was very, very harsh to my then-fiance-now-husband. My husband was very understanding of my father's actions and words because he is a human being with a big heart as well as being culturally aware of the Korean values and belief systems. Through these harsh times I was the one who defended my husband while defying my father and bruising his ego. I was the communicator and tried to be the peacemaker for all ('sigh' very tiresome, of course). After many obstacles and tears of sadness, my husband and I finally shared a blessed wedding filled with tears of joy witnessed by Koreans, Caucasians and all Americans.
Hopefully, Sukhyun will continue to stand up for Jongnam despite differences in social class, etc. I am hopeful that Nara will see the light the more her son fights back for his true love and happiness. Hopefully, Haein will learn from all of this and become a better lover/partner for someone else. Maybe if she opens her arms to Kiwoong, he will reciprocate the favor and gladly make amends.
