Re: K-Drama: (The Innocent Woman)

Back in the beginning, Namgi had gambling debts that he owed to a loan shark. They were after him and beat him up, that's why he disappeared with Ilhong's money. In the note he left, he told her he was sorry and would pay her back. This isn't in defense of Namgi, but I always had the feeling that he really liked her. Most of his marks (if not all?) have been older women that he took advantage of. Ilhong is much younger. Well, no matter what, even if he did/does like her "as a woman," he did ruthlessly scam her and made her life exceedingly hard with her children.

I can't recall how Namgi and Ilhong first met... There's a vague memory of him being destitute on the street and asking her for a handout??? I think she might have given him her last dollar for something to eat. They bumped into each other a few times, then later they were both at the model home place and the older daughter took a dump in a show toilet (with no plumbing hook-up). Namgi didn't want them to get caught so he cleaned it all up for her while Ilhong and daughter escaped.

Wasn't that where she met Mr. Seo, too? He was furnishing some items for the model and Ilhong amazingly fixed up a scratch. Mr. Seo was very impressed and gave her his business card if she needed work. She eventually showed up at Furniture Master (his company), he hired her and also let her stay rent-free in the company "dorm" (an abandoned living quarter) with her two daughters. She discovered she was pregnant during those days and others (namely Eom) thought Mr. Seo was the father. That's why she was driven out of his company by Seo's wife. Ilhong then returned to her old neighborhood where everyone welcomed her with open arms. She was allowed to stay in a work "shed" and started fixing up and selling furniture she found in the trash. This expanded to doing custom work for local housewives who wanted old pieces spruced up, leading to her successful company that we see today.

In the meantime, Namgi was still scamming older women, living off their money. During Okbun's "down time" (she was running from creditors), their paths crossed as she watched him flattering an older woman, using her financially. That's why Okbun hates Namgi so much. Sometime after that, Namgi was sent to prison for scamming and was just recently released, as we saw.

I sort of see Namgi and Okbun as similar people. Both are golddiggers who simultaneously seem to "love" Ilhong and the old guy, respectively. Okbun loves the old guy but she is at least equally as interested in collecting financially from him and being set up for life. Namgi, too, seems to like/love Ilhong but is still seeking to harvest easy money from her business.

It's all pretty weird to me. But it is a comedy, after all!

K-Drama: (The Innocent Woman)

First night without Innocent Woman and family : ((
BUT I've found ALL episodes of LIkable or Not at veoh and since I've only been onto that for awhile, I could go back to ep.1 and see all the action! My butt is falling asleep, tho! (oops, sorry)

But a question; what is the determining factor if a family sits on the floor to eat or at a table? And same with sleeping on a futon or sleeping in a bed? Both seem to cross the socio-economic lines.

Is the old man that ill-mannered (so gross watching him eat ribs and talk at the same time) or is he trying all means to get wifey to divorce him..tis time using humiliation.
Designer Guy sure has mellowed in his rigidness since the beginning of the program. The earlier Guy would have left the table out of disgust and his inability to accept the "untidiness" of it all.
Namji is down right annoying but once the truth is revealed about him being the father of the youngest daughter, he won't get blamed for ditching them since Ilhong never made any attempts to find him and let him know. Even though he is the father, I can't see all of them becoming one happy family.
Mr. Seo seems like such a nice guy...I see him ending up in the birch forest all alone, but content.

Re: K-Drama: (The Innocent Woman)

Dang, how long was Mr Seo going to kneel in front of Ilhong while she was sitting in the chair he made her? Ayeong already told DG that she thought Ilhong was playing her father. Now that DG and Ayeong walking in on Mr Seo kneeling in front of Ilhong it looks to DG like Ayeong was right in thinking her father is being taken in by Ilhong.

DG had such a MAD MAD look on his face!! And I loved it!! I really like DG.

Ilhong is a talented furniture maker. They have her playing a smart business woman. BUt she is so incredibly (I hate to use the word stupid).. .... Now Old Man is in her house to see Liz and Sarang. Ilhong wants her secret kept about Sarang so why has she allowed herself to let these people in her life? And Namji... She wants her youngest child's identify to be kept from Namji ... yet, she hires him to work for her. Is she so dumb to think all this won't come out?

I do NOT like Namji but he sure is good with the kids. He plays with them like he is their age (which isn't far from the truth). He seems to have a genuinely good time with the kids. He likes them and they like him.

looks like oldest daughter doesn't want to even think of the possibility of her mother dating DG. I guess our little girl has her own crush on DG.

I like DG, too, but he was so much better looking 8 years ago when he didn't wear glasses! I'm sure oldest dtr has a crush, especially since he's gotten so nice to her. When he smiles at her, it's so genuine! Dirty old man visiting Liz at home is a hoot! What a houseful! Poor Ilhong, what a burden to have four men lusting after her heart, or whatever! LOL!

There seems to be some really bad blood between designer guy and Mr. Seo. I don't remember...can anyone refresh my memory as to while those two are so tense around each other?

It's primarily a matter of personal choice these days. Sitting/sleeping on the floor is traditional Korean style, using chairs/beds is the Western influence. Koreans traditionally heat their rooms through the floor (even in many modern buildings), thus sleeping and sitting directly on the floors is warmer in their very cold winters. Today, it's probably also influenced by how one grew up. In "Likable or Not," Sua sleeps in a bed, while Granny sleeps on a futon on the floor. I would guess Granny slept in bedding on the floor most, if not all of her life. class blockquote curly carrot wrote:

I only remember some generalities. Mr. Seo provided furniture from his company under contract to DG's model projects before Ilhong entered the picture. There were some problems with that (scratched furniture, etc.), but mostly because of DG's intolerant, arrogant personality. I think DG basically dislikes Mr. Seo's personality—he's too meek and nice. Plus, DG has stated that Mr. Seo is a "loser" because his company went bankrupt. Then throw in the fact that Ilhong really likes and deeply respects Mr. Seo, giving him a job, etc., and it presses DG's male superiority/territorial buttons. (How can Ilhong not only like this loser, but like him more than me?) He's flat out jealous now. It doesn't matter if Ilhong sees Mr. Seo as a father figure. DG can't stand any of her approving attention going to Seo on such a personal level. Also, as a male, DG may sense that Mr. Seo is interested in Ilhong as a woman, consequently "hates" him even more.

As for Mr. Seo's feelings towards Designer Guy, what man wouldn't be incensed on some level at being treated so disrespectfully by a young punk who is still wet behind the ears?

thanks, nchristi, you hit the nail right on the head re floor activities. I had no idea the floors were heated and I wondered how comfortable that would be!

Re: K-Drama: (The Innocent Woman)

nchristi: Thanks for trying to bring me up to date on this drama; but I think it's too little, too late. Still too many blanks. And, although I really like comedies, this one stretches credibility too far. I can't even begin to believe so many men would fall for such an idiot (Ilhong). I know that's harsh, but she really is. Yes, she's kind and loving, but that's all the good I can say for her and she even misplaces that.
Luckly, there's still Daughter in Law (excellent), Hong Gil Dong (also excellent), and Likeable or Not (Very Good) and Daddy in Love (Good) that I can watch. Saves me 20 minutes. I understand Daddy in Love received poor ratings but I find it hard to believe this drama is/was higher rated. I guess my tastes are out of the mainstream.

Re: K-Drama: (The Innocent Woman)

Adwatcher: I hope you're not jumping ship!! LOL It's nice to have you around..

I know a lot of people dont' care for this one but it's my favorite current drama. I really enjoy it. Ilhong reminds me of Okdoo (Bizarre Bunch) because she has such a pure innocence about her. Ilhong is just exposed more to being taken advantage of.

I was looking at Namji last nite. He is really an extremely good looking guy. I hope to see him in another drama where he can play a better, more intelligent character. If he plays really nice I will print/cut/laminate him and put him on my frig... emoticon

So poor Ilhong got stuck having to go pick up DG and take him home. How predictable that she ended up falling on top of him in the bed!! Then she tried to pull away but the drunk DG grabbed her and hugged her... She can't stand him. I'm hoping that will change though...
