Oh, no! And to think I can't take much more now! Maybe I'll just change my point of view and start seeing this as a comedy and exercise in using trite cliché! Then it won't annoy me.

Bingo!! Pretty nearly all of these family, formula, and comedy-laced dramas are written, performed and presented exactly as that. They can, and do, provide us with repeated examples situational irony, moral dilemma, and characters learning lessons while attempting to navigate through the gray areas which we can be faced with in life; but with a clear cut choice about which is right and which is the wrong choice. If any of us is waiting for this approach to these types of drama to change, we'll be waiting a long, long time.
I know that I'm pretty much the panel's resident "bleeding heart", but it often drives me to distraction to see comments made by viewers as to the "stupidity" or "cowardliness" of characters (clearly the ones representing the better angels of society) that are in conflict as to how to resolve situations according to what is traditional and honorable, while attempting to choose the option that will most likely cause the least amount of co-lateral damage. If you can't please all of the people, one is duty bound to protect those who are the weakest and most vulnerable. That, in essence and actual practice, is what each of the heroes and heroines in these stories is compelled to do. I enjoy these types of dramas because, in the end, the "good guys" always do win. That is how life would be in the best of all worlds. The historical dramas, while beautifully photographed, costumed, and acted, hold much less interest for me as the cruelty of those in power is all too real, and too much like the reality from which the sort of "mindless" comedy/dramas that I prefer offer to me an escape from.
We each get to choose our own likes and dislikes, but, nearly always, the writers have clearly outlined (to those of whom are following along closely enough) which characters are wearing which color of hat. Innocence does not, in any way, represent stupidity. Ignorance; maybe, but stupidity; never. Evil, on the other hand, is calculated and unrelenting. It moves like a snake through the grass and attacks it's prey without compassion, and with extreme prejudice.
I'd much rather see the good change bad than the have it other way around.

Re: K-Drama: (The Innocent Woman)
Okay, here we go again! Ayeong overhears and assumes Ilhong and Namgi were married. I rolled my eyes at that, wondering how many more of the males in the cast we'll have to endure this same misunderstanding over. Well, we've still got all the guys who work in her furniture factory. So, just as she gets closer to DG, another man can be whipped out with whom Ilhong might have had an affair—in the eyes of others. Of course, there's always the little factoid that Jinsol (sp?) is Namgi's daughter! That's just a teensy weensy bit hard to explain away now, isn't it?!
I no longer feel at all sorry for Ilhong. As K-drama frequently reminds us, karma strikes again. She needs to stand up for herself and her children, face the truth in all her situations, and maintain her own integrity. Until she does that, she'll continue to be the habitual loser we've seen her to be all along. Being nice, warm, and affectionate are admirable qualities, but the fact is Ilhong has herself invited all these woes into her life by her mindless choices. People change when the pain becomes too great. Guess she hasn't reached that point, yet.

Re: K-Drama: (The Innocent Woman)
Not much discussion on this drama going on. Has everyone stopped watching it?
I must admit, I'm getting sick & tired of Ilhong crying. I don't think that there has been 1 episode where she doesn't cry. She needs to stop being sooooooooo nice, and fight back.
Granny, granny's daughter, granny's granddaughter and DG's mom all are B****'S!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope by the end of this show they get whats coming to them for being so evil.

K-Drama: (The Innocent Woman)
I am also sick of this soap. Will stop watching it. For the first time, I watched a Korean movie (DVD) titled
Sad Love Song. Very, very good. Tear jerker. I love the leading man, Kwon Sang-Woo. He is so cute and very good actor. Is there anybody out there that can tell me where I can rent Korean DVD's?? This one I borrowed from a friend. I live in the San Gabriel Valley. Please help me. I'm now addicted to these shows.
