SYNOPSIS (courtesy of MYKOfan) class ul The Yu family was torn when Yu Yong-Hwan, the youngest son of Yu Gun-Young, died in a tragic car accident on his way home to meet his sister... While the family moves on, the memorial date of his death brings back horrible memories from that ill-fated day.

However, 'The Road Home' is also meant for many of the other characters in this family drama. Yu Min-Su (Shim Hyung-Tak) is the CEO of the family hospital and has a problem—to literally go home to his wife and two children. While his wife, Suh Mi-Ryung (Jo Yuh-Jung), can't understand his addiction to work, he doesn't understand why she couldn't be more supportive of his line of work.

Han Su-In (Jang Shin-Young) is also another character who tries to find meaning in her life again. After leaving her first love to wed her husband, she moved to America only to discover that her picture perfect matrimony was a complete disaster. With scars from her previous marriage she moves back home to Korea and runs into her first love. Vowing to face the world with a cold heart she tries desperately to push him away... but can she really forget her first love?

Jang Shin-Young (장신영) as Han Su-In (한수인) class ul Su-In was once a bright, smiling, and beautiful girl who had a passion for the arts. She was a brilliant pianist and was on her way to follow her dreams. Su-In also fell in love with her first love, Hyun-Su. However, through yet revealed circumstances she ends up moving to America after being wed to her husband. While everyone in Korea believes she is happily married, she unexpectedly returns home. Everyone notices the difference in her demeanor... Su-In is reserved, quiet, and most of all lost her desire to smile and enjoy life.

After being recommended to be a writer for a documentary "Dreamers" she finds herself face to face with her first love. She tries to push him away. After all, she is a once-married woman while he is still a bachelor! However, she finds that the cold wall she held up is slowly melting away...
Image
Lee Sang-Woo (이상우) as Yu Hyun-Su (유현수) class ul Hyun-Su is probably the busiest PD there is around, but he's also the most kind and warm hearted person you'll get to know. Even though he spends all his time at work, he never fails to be there for his family when they need him most. He still can't forget his first love, Su-In, and when he runs into her at the airport he stands in shock at the sight of her! He tries to schedule a time to meet with her but she declines and walks away...

She works hard at everything she does and even picks up a stray model, Hiro, whens he learns that he was swindled by a broker in Japan!

While Ji-Su is always seen as a happy person, inside she can't help but be hurt when she dwells on the secret that she isn't the biological daughter of her parents... No one knows of this secret so Ji-Su also pretends to not know the truth...
Image
Otani Ryohei (오타니 료헤이) as Hiro (히로) class ul Hiro is an aspiring model who came to Korea on a modeling deal his broker promised him. However, he is shocked to discover that he was conned... While others see his good looks and assume his first priority is to be a top model in Korea, Hiro is really in Korea because he wants to find out more about his culture...from his Korean grandmother.

While he doesn't understand Ji-Su's persistent manner in trying to get him a modeling deal, he is undeniably appreciative for her honor and friendship.

However, after years of neglect from her husband, she can't help but feel as if her marriage is hopeless. She thinks back to the days when she was a happy single, working toward her dreams... All she wants is for her husband to acknowledge her and come home to their family... Will Mi-Ryung and her husband be able to mend their relationship?Image
Shim Hyung-Tak (심형탁) as Yu Min-Su (유민수) class ul Min-Su is the eldest son of the Yu family and also the CEO of their family practice at Peace Hospital. He has a hard time understanding his father's ways and thoughts on how to run the hospital, as he is trying to expand his hospital financially.

While his wife wants nothing but to have him think more of her and their two children, he can't help but think that he is trapped ever since their unintentional pregnancy. All he really wants is for his wife to understand why he feels so passionately about his work and the people who come through his hospital doors.

I'm game, but I hope they give us at least 20 minutes--there were huge cuts, I think.

Saw the 1st episode...will take time, getting to know the characters & such, but too early to say whether it's a "keeper" or not.

However, I did see somebody I already like...the model who was stuck at the airport, waiting for the Japanese guy emoticon Reminds me of Subin, from Destiny emoticon

Episode#2 was missing on Ch.44. The circumstance of the brother`s death was discussed in #2 on KBS World. I didn`t really get all of the details. Somebody might want to fill us in.

Re: K-Drama: 집으로 가는 길 (The Road Home)

Those in charge of KBS America/LA don't seem to watch what they actually play on their station. This isn't the first time this has happened.

I am also really annoyed with KBS America's KXLA official schedule. The 8:20p drama on their schedule actually starts at 9:30p. And there are many, many more commercials than in the past.

For those who have asked if I'll be doing the 'deleted scenes' for this drama, the answer is No—at least not at this time. There are two main reasons. First, this is a 40-minute drama and KBS America is showing only 20-minutes (or less) of each episode. That means the deleted scenes are significantly longer than our former Daily Dramas. Doing them 5x-weekly requires a major commitment and a lot of time every day. Second, I have not found a source of written translation/summaries, or unedited e-subbed episodes of this drama, so I can't do the deleteds even if I wanted to! LOL!

For those who can't get through to the KBS VODs from Korea, here's a link to a website with streaming videos of this drama. The only hitch is the subs are in Chinese. But you can at least see what has been deleted from our version.

On the first screen, click on the episode number listed on the left. The next screen will be for that episode. Scroll down near the bottom of the page. On the LEFT you will see two highlighted links in Chinese characters. Click on one of those and the episodes will begin. (Korea is already up to episode 38.)

For a summary, some people are copying the text summary on the KBS official website, then translating it in Google Translation. It's readable and you can get the gist of what's going on, especially if you are watching the video, too.

Note: I have updated the front page above with the main CAST & CHARACTERS.

Re: K-Drama: 집으로 가는 길 (The Road Home)

Well, I've watched the full episodes w/o e-subs. The main thing we missed from Episode #2 was flashbacks setting up the love relationship between Suin (who just came back from the States), and Hyeon-su, the TV director/photographer?. They met and fell in love in college. Both were very much in love and happy with the other. Maybe later we will see why she ended up marrying someone else (unless the reason was contained in a conversation between other characters).

One aspect I'm liking—and finding disconcerting in this drama—is how differently some of our veteran actors are being portrayed here. I'm having a devil of a time trying to see Yongjun (the drunk doctor at the memorial for his brother) as the SON of the family patriarch. This actor (who played Kim Daejin in "Destiny") looks every bit as old or older than the actor playing his father. Too weird.

At the other extreme we have the veteran actor playing Suin's father made up to look quite young, sort of that Rod Blagojevich hair going on. He usually plays a very stern, authoritative father type. He seems more affectionate and warm in this one, at least towards his wife.

Then there's the actress playing the head of the model agency. She looks great in those red glasses and younger hair style. I've only seen her as an older MIL type in past dramas.

Steph, you mentioned the actress playing Sunjeong (woman doctor, mother of Minsu and Jisu) having a face lift. I wonder if she had one of those laser 'lifts' that gets rid of wrinkles and poor skin appearance—kind of an industrial strength peel or 'derma-brasion' without altering her features. Her skin looks markedly better but I don't see a change around her eyes, nose, or mouth, which full face lifts usually produce.

My favorite guy to look at in this drama is definitely going to be Otani Ryohei as Akida Hiro. I like his character so far, too. Kind of a sweet, innocent—even simple and gullible—type. He sure is a classically handsome man. Yikes. His nationality is Japanese but he looks like he's got some ethnically Korean genes going on. Japan actually has quite a large population of ethnic Koreans.

Here's a basic list of the characters by family grouping as shown on DramaWiki
