I'm glad Suin reminded her mother that she (Suin) only married to make the mom happy! Now Suin wants to marry to make herself happy.
What surprised me most about that scene was Dad. It seemed he had no idea that Suin never wanted to marry her husband, that it was Mom who basically forced her into it and Suin just went along to please Mom. His response? Haul off and slap Suin really hard in the face. Terrible. How can a man slap a woman like that (or a son, for that matter) for merely expressing their heartfelt feelings/frustrations. Instead, I wish he would have really "heard" what she said and had some understanding of the predicament she's in and that she's finally had enough of living to satisfy everyone else's emotional needs except her own.

There seemed a lot was edited out from last night's episode—looked like some important disconnects occurred. I need to watch the unedited version, even though it doesn't have e-subs....

Re: K-Drama: 집으로 가는 길 (The Road Home)

I missed about 15-20 min of the KBS World showing. I was so mad. Having company here throws me off course! I had to watch the first part of the 8:30 one. One thing is that Suin is on Hye's side now so he is more determined than ever to stand up to anyone who is against him (them).

It doesn't seem like Hye & Suin have anyone on their side now (except each other). Before they had Hye's grandpa, dad & Jisu. Suin's dad was pretty much on their side too. Now everyone is against them.

When Suin's dad slapped her I wondered if that was the first time he ever laid a hand on her. I think it was. I think he was trying to protect his wife from Suin's harsh words and that slap was thoughtless and instinctive. Personally I think there was truth in Suin's words to her mother. How many more times does Suin have to be obedient at the cost of her own happiness?

It irked me was when Suin's brother Juho went to see Suin and basically said dad was wrong to slap you but you deserved it...

I wish Hye & Suin would move in together..

Re: K-Drama: 집으로 가는 길 (The Road Home)

I felt the same way about Juho's visit to Suin. It set me back a little because he's usually so understanding. But at that point, I had to remind myself to invoke the Korean 'rules' and set my Western 'rules' on the shelf.

In thinking how they view it, there were two major offenses by Suin. Of course, there's always speaking disrespectfully to parents, but I think maybe the greater offense (basically unforgivable in their traditional culture) is to denigrate and trample all over your Mother. Mother is revered as giving you life and that has to always be revered (in the mother's presence) even if your mother is a skunk.

S-Mom has been a good, loving mother for the most part. We all understand where Suin was coming from and wish she hadn't been pushed to that point. But yelling at her mother, then essentially flushing all of S-Mom's years of love and care down the drain by screaming at her that you didn't love me, you were really loving Jisu, etc., etc., was way over the line. Essentially it turned S-mom's position of honor into one of shame.

Dad has endured disrespect from his children towards S-mom in the past, but I don't recall he has slapped one. He will raise his voice and pull the kid up short (usually Sumi). So what Suin was saying was very different from the run of the mill disrespect kids get into towards their parents. Maybe that's why Juho went to see Suin. He wanted to comfort his sister yet he couldn't just gloss over such a major blow against their mother.

My favorite 'adult' in this drama has become Miryeong's mother. I like both her character and the actress who plays the role. In the opposite direction, Minsu is such an unbelievably immature guy. He reminds me of a very young teenage boy who sees and understands practically nothing about Miryeong—or any other person's feelings. I sit here and shudder each time he desperately tries to make amends (in his mind). All his little 'how to handle a woman and make her forget what I just did' behaviors are such a joke. Poor guy! He might actually have to stop and THINK about what has really happened and how to resolve it.

The way things are going, it won't surprise me if Miryeong considers something very serious such as a separation. Maybe not as far as living in separate homes, but having an emotional separation while living under the same roof, for the sake of the kids and the family. This marriage is salvageable, of course, but it will depend on whether Minsu can grow up and take responsibility for his self-centered, ignorant ways.

If Miryeong decides to separate from her husband, Hye's Mom will go bonkers with all the problems in the family. As the saying goes, "When it rains, it pours"

Re: K-Drama: 집으로 가는 길 (The Road Home)

I was so glad that Miryeong and her mother told Aunti everything that Minsu said and his true feelings. Now his mother should know the truth!

As for everything else, I always take into consideration Korean tradition and go with the flow emoticon Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to take these dramas and constantly get frustrated over them. Like Philly Gal said about other cultures and I mentioned a long time ago, I see Italian tradition in the way the mother/MIL reacts to their son's wives/girlfriends.

Interesting that Suin has finally "opened up" and spoke her mind to S-Mom. She was like a tea kettle ready to burst its lid off.

Having said all that, I, too, am looking forward to the next drama. emoticon

Just thought I'd mention this...watching Time Between Dog & Wolf this weekend & noticed that "Jisu" was in it, playing a government agent.

Took me a while to recognize her, as she looks quite different & much sexier in that drama emoticon

Lex07...I saw that show, but don't remember Jisu in it. By the way DOG & WOLF was a wonderful show.

pali...she played the agent who helps one of the main characters, Kang Min Gi, in his efforts to get his best friend for killing his father.

Of course, I could be wrong but she looks SOO much like Jisu, that I don't think I am.

It is the "Jisu" actress. I think she looks much better in Road Home, though.
