Re: K-Drama: 스타의 연인 (Celebrity Lover/Star's Lover)

I agree, nchristi, not one of the better episodes. I was really tired, so I was a bit upset that I'd stayed up to watch it.

Culturally, I have the most problem with this kind of situation--it's Chulsu's fault for what's happening to Eunyong, regardless. Ignore that he broke up with her before it all happened. Ignore that she keeps following him around, and wants him to see her whenever she calls. But when the mother accuses him, he just says he's sorry. emoticon I really don't like those wimpy responses, even though I do understand that he's not going to talk back to EY's mother.

I hope next week is better. (Like the music though.)

hang in there drama lovers -- it picks up from hereon -- you may need a score card to chart the moves in this game.

As for last ep, they were simply playing up Choi Woo's flirtatious charms.

LOL, star1, I like this one, so I'm hanging! LOL I like these characters, and have a lot of sympathy for them. They're just people discovering each other, but they have to deal with Suh and the paparazzi.

The saddest one is the friend, I think. He's living vicariously, really doesn't have a life. He certainly can't keep his mouth shut. I first I didn't like him at all, but I've come to really pity him.

the friend is an idiot...eunyoung has cried more in this drama than Lee marie and all the other casts combined. Chul Su feels guilty with what is happening to Eun Young and culturally in confucian society, saying sorry is not enough...it's ATONEMENT...so Chul Su is expected to pay for this "sin" of no longer loving eunyoung for the rest of his life...or at least until such time she finds another man to obsess about.

Like what star1 said...hang in there...the best is yet to come emoticon

Re: K-Drama: 스타의 연인 (Celebrity Lover/Star's Lover)

Eunyong is the most reasonable, levelheaded jilted woman I've ever seen in one of these K-dramas. At least she got her feet back on the ground and told CS he didn't have to be responsible for anything. In fact, she told him not to come back at all. But what happens? Chulsu is the one who grabs her arm and declares he will come back every day to take care of her until she's over it all. Since these people are rarely honest about what they want and what they are feeling, who is being the sensible one now? Eunyong or Chulsu?

I'm sticking with this drama, too. I haven't seen such a great couple as LM & CS together in a long time. I also find most of the peripheral characters interesting, too. Especially Suh.

Byung Joon... He means well. There was a scene deleted last week where he is going through CS's private box of mementos that is stored way up on top of the bookshelf. As he's trying to put it back, CS unexpectedly comes in. BJ is caught, but CS has not seen what he's up to, except he is hiding something behind his back. CS calmly asks him what he's doing and what he has behind his back. BJ doesn't want to show him but CS reaches and grabs it—a report card from their youth. BJ reveals that when they were kids CS saved his life (drowning or some such thing), and he now wants to pay back that debt by writing something that will take CS and LM off the hook, so to speak. CS tells him just to forget about it and don't do anything. BJ then leaves. Outside CS's room, we see that BJ has something else he took from the box—a photo of CS and LM together in Japan, laughing and having fun together (during the Popcorn Bag Dude time). BJ then goes to Suh's office and is writing an article that makes both LM and CS look less culpable in both the ghostwriting and falling in love aspects. Unexpectedly, Suh comes up behind him and is looking over his shoulder at what BJ has written. BJ tries to cover it up but Suh acts like it is nothing and tells BJ to just keep on writing about CS and LM.

Between what Suh saw and the info that his sister weaseled out of BJ at dinner, my money is on Suh as the one who had BJ's article replaced with one totally devastating—an article that painted both LM and CS in the most inflammatory, worst possible way.

Since this drama is only half over at this point, I guess we will be seeing developments go in different directions for a while, at least. There's no way Mari can make any sort of a living at all with Suh bankrupting her and painting her as a scandalous woman. The press would hound her to death everywhere she goes. She wouldn't even be able to wait tables in a small café! Enter Woojin. He will save her (and possibly CS?) somehow. But we know what his price will be, since he's already made it clear that he refuses to be friends with her and that one day she will need him.

I can't figure out Suh's motivation for committing such vile acts. Obviously, Mari is money to him, as well as prestige and control. The only thing I can figure is that he wants her for his own--if he can't have her, no one will??

Love these two together. I haven't enjoyed an on-screen couple like this for a very long time. Love the way he talks to her. Loved the way she scooted across the bed to get closer to him! LOL

I somehow doubt that Chulsu will let Mama take Yuri to the US. She must have taken the money to pay off her debt.

Here's how I see it. Suh is obsessed with possessing Lee Mari. I think he also has a one-sided romantic obsession with her, too. As long as he runs her life, she can never really go to another man. When she got too close to the original Woo-jin, Suh pulled the plug and had the guy disappear. LM was reduced to an emotional heap who had to turn back to to Big Daddy Suh for comfort, strength, and his ability to 'fix' her life.

Enter Chulsu. Suh cannot control him. Worse, he cannot control Mari's heart, which belongs to CS. Now it moves into the male pride zone. Suh was still trying to break LM, attempting to force her to come back to him as the power in her life. But Mari called his bluff and was willing to toss aside her career and lifestyle in favor of CS. Suh's pride has been stomped on and dragged through the streets. He won't (doesn't) take that, and would rather grind Mari to powder than let her 'win.'

From Suh's point of view, LM is his creation, she owes everything to him—she belongs to him. Like a sculptor, I see Suh as a man who would rather reduce his magnificent sculpture to rubble than see another man take possession of it.

K-Drama: 스타의 연인 (Celebrity Lover/Star's Lover)

Hi all,

Missed the first episode or two of this drama. But hooked so far. Love the lead actress. Love the caracter that she plays. All the men and the one old women are trying to control her except Chul su. Hope that they can be together in the end.

Question: Is there a way to view the first episodes of this drama?

Hi, Carlton 17! Welcome! I've watched several episodes on mysoju.com. There are several other places--nchristi will probably give you those. I don't surf much.

Thanks, nchristi--you always make things clear for me. I had the sense of what you say, but it wasn't clear in my head. Sung Ji Roo is doing a good job of being slime! I love the way he grinds his teeth--you can see his jaw muscles working--when he's thinking up some new horrible thing to do.

One of the things I like about these two characters is the way they connect. Chulsu has a lovely way of touching her. A lot of that may be the director, but I think some of it is the fact that YJT is a director himself.

Welcome, Carlton17! We're very happy to have you with us. Looking forward to your comments. emoticon

Regarding your question on viewing the first episodes of this drama, hyena was correct. Your best bet is at MySoju.com. A source for a higher quality video is Aja-Aja.com, but the subbing got sidetracked at about episode 3 and hasn't continued. If you wish to see the first three episodes in HQ, you have to d/l them, then d/l the subs. Instructions are simple and clear on the Aja-Aja site. However, as I said, they have e-subs for only episodes 1-3. Life is much simpler just clicking and watching on MySoju.

What I really like about Yoo Ji Tae (Chulsu) is that he looks and acts like a bonafide man—not a boy in an almost grown-up body like in a lot of the dramas. Plus I really like the cerebral, intellectual qualities that dominate Chulsu's character. The interaction and relationship between LM and CS is more realistic and reasonable than in a lot of K-drama. Both are playful, serious, sweet and tender at the right moments. I like that these characters have different strengths and weaknesses, able to 'be there' for the other when each needs the strength of the other. Both Yoo Ji Tae and Choi Ji Woo are very convincing in their portrayals of actually being in love with the other. Really a very satisfying love match to watch.
