Re: K-Drama: 스타의 연인 (Celebrity Lover/Star's Lover)

Dear nchristi. I haven't been on the board for awhile, but happened to see your recent post. So I decided to rewatch this one. It benefits greatly from being able to watch the episodes closer together, rather than waiting for an episode once a week. This time around, it seems much better to me.The actors are very good in their parts, and the story seems much more cohesive, at least through the first 12 episodes.

The copy I have is supposed to have English subs. It does have English words at the bottom of the screen, but you couldn't call them subtitles! Still, I can get the gist of the dialogue.

Mari needs to have someone love her, but she's a clinger and she's also selfish, which I didn't really recognize the first time I watched. Chulsoo is terrified of getting too close to anyone, so he's constantly pushing Mari away, even though he knows he can't resist her. The agent (forget his name) seems more sinister this time, too. One of my complaints before was that the characters were continuously breaking up and then getting back together. Well, I think that's consistent with the characters--they spent a lot of years dealing with their pasts, and when they find each other, they just can't change overnight.

I'm so glad I saw your post--enjoying rewatching very much. I certainly hope that a good subbed version comes out soon, as well as the OST. I haven't been able to find that at all.

I'm really pressed for time at the moment but wanted to give you this bit of info before I forget.

SBS's English title is Celebrity's Sweetheart. I noticed that YesAsia shows the OST as available but 'temporarily out of stock.' You might try that. Sometimes you can get one. Other times they tack "No longer available" on the item.

As for the DVD box set... what a frustration. This drama is immensely popular in Japan and SBS is releasing it there with Japanese subtitles (no Eng subs, however). The price? A mere $234.75. LOL! YesAsia is accepting Pre-Orders for it.

I think our only hope is if YA Entertainment would take it on here in the States and e-sub it. I won't keep my fingers crossed, but if enough people contact YAE, they might consider it.

I left a "notify me" on YesAsia.com re: the OST. And I sent in a request to YA Entertainment. Maybe I'm too impatient! LOL

Got a reply from Tom Larsen at YA Entertainment. They hope to be able to release this one early next year. That's good news for sure.

For any on our Vietnamese-speaking fans, this drama is currently showing on channel 57.4 at 11:00 pm. I just surfed through it tonight, so i don't know for certain if it's playing M-F nightly.

It's dubbed in Vietnamese, no subtitles of any language.

Edit: The episode ended at 11:30 pm, so either 57.4 showed a full episode starting around 10:20 or they're showing 1/2 episodes (a la "My Too Perfect Sons" on 44.1) starting at 11:00

I'm surprised the Vietnamese company that bought the license to dub/release this drama on DVD has already sold broadcast rights to a station to air on TV. They began selling the DVD set not more then 4-5 months ago. The company's current releases for this month on DVD are Brilliant Legacy (SBS) [will be 2 volumes] and My Woman (MBC) [1 volume]. Each volume set is relatively inexpensive, selling from $18-25.
