Re: K-Drama: 스타의 연인 (Celebrity Lover/Star's Lover)
There's an article in the Digital Chosun Ilbo that says she had 147 different outfits through episode 12! The budget must have been something, as well.
nchristi, I rewatched the scene, and I'm pretty sure whatever he writes starts with the unaspirated "h," so I have no idea what it means. It wasn't an 'm,' so it doesn't mean 'lost child.'
I've already decided I'll get a copy of this one. Whether they end up together isn't as important to me as the journey they're taking. Well written, well acted, well directed.

nchristi, my korean friend doesn't know the word. We watched the scene together, and she is confident that the word is "e ma ni." After googling it in hangul, she thinks it may have something to do with "gift of time," or soemthing along those lines--in the moment.

K-Drama: 스타의 연인 (Celebrity Lover/Star's Lover)
I do not like needy insecure actresses who just pushes her way into other people lives without seeing the consequences of her actions, she want what she wants and be dammed by everyone else. She knew he loved someone else but that did nor deter her, she is insecure and a rather blah! She was asked not to come back, she refuses she says she will return, that was puttingher need before the request of the homowners.
This is not about how she looked or how many dresses she wore, this is not in debate, it the human frailty of an insecure, needy, all about me and what I want, be dammed who gets hurt in the process, be dammed who will be affected the most, be dammed if he looses his post at the college, I want what I want...... So what the big deal about ghostwriting? Its done here alot in america, why must it be so severe?
I know its a drama and everything is elevated to the extreme or absurd. My friends accuse me of being too much a romantic, I guess I am a promise is a promise......

I also very much enjoy Choi Ji Woo's costumes. LOL! Those side details are enjoyable and I'm glad someone posted it—I hope such information will continued to be shared with us. The costuming and beautiful locations are part of the appeal of this drama and I think the producer/director have done an excellent job all around. A big part of the whole picture is about how Choi Ji Woo looks, how they dress her character, etc. That's why they cast a very attractive actress, Choi Ji Woo, in the role.
Personally, I think both Lee Mari and Chulsu are insecure and needy to a certain extent. The big difference is in the outward expression of their personalities, which is rather opposite from each other—one is quiet and withdrawn, the other is extroverted and vibrant. Most of us tend to be more comfortable around one type over the other. There isn't anything wrong with either type. It's just that they are different.
Well, tonight is our next episode. I'm looking forward to it!

Re: K-Drama: 스타의 연인 (Celebrity Lover/Star's Lover)
Hmm, I don't see a pushy person. I see a woman who's been on her own for a long time, one who is hiding her vulnerability. Some of her selfishness is a shield against the demands of the industry she works in. The film industry eats people up--you either develop a tough skin to protect yourself or you let it destroy you, as so many have been destroyed. Particularly in the Korean film industry.
No one is all of a piece, and I think CJW is portraying that very well, a multi-layered performance, at least so far.

Re: K-Drama: 스타의 연인 (Celebrity Lover/Star's Lover)
I am not a Choi Ji Woo admirer at all. However, I have seen her in several dramas from way back when she was a supporting actor. I think this role is the best one she has ever played. She plays it perfectly. In real life she is very elegant and welldressed in public. You do not hear scandals about her whether there are any or not. I suspect there are none. she is a lovely looking actress and this role fits her own persona very well I think.
Being a big star is not a good place in life most of the time. The fans go crazy and want every little bit of her in the drama and she has no happy private life at all. She is not dumb and knows very well that the men who have attached themselve to her.or tried. are not what she wants. they are looking for publicity on their own behalf.
When she meets a man who knows very little about her and less than nothing about the life of an actress that intrigues her. She is indeed used to having what she wants if possible. Stars are treated with kid gloves. He does not do that and there you have the makings of a future between them. Good or bad she is not about to let it go.
Interesting that he also cannot quite leave the book which he does not want to write and he becomes protective as he sees how she is chased around. It all follows on from there
Difficult for him to lower his standards and certainly he has a great huge reserve of pride that won't get out of the way in any event ,whether with the star or with the former girlfriend.

Re: K-Drama: 스타의 연인 (Celebrity Lover/Star's Lover)
I was a bit disappointed last night, that Chul su would arrange to meet Eun yong, only to cancel. (And then run after the train! How far did he have to run?? Obviously not far, since he was carrying around vanilla ice cream, or was it a drink by the time he got to wherever?? LOL) Does he love her (Eun yong) or not? Yes, he's intrigued with Mari, as she is with him. I guess he told her all that in the ferris wheel car to convince himself that he doesn't have a chance with her?
Well, I wasn't disappointed with Mari--loved that she got out of the "engagement," which she obviously did not want, by jumping off the boat! That was the "boat" the boyfriend was going to float! Also that she overruled Pres Seo. I think she may unconsciously want it to come out that she didn't write the book.

Re: K-Drama: 스타의 연인 (Celebrity Lover/Star's Lover)
Episode 4, here are the deleted (and a few other important) scenes...
At the train station platform, remembering how Mari had wanted to tell him the feelings in her heart (during Ferrish wheel stoppage), and he had cut her off and not let her speak, Chulso calls Eunyung saying he will be late. On his way running back to Lee Mari, he stops at a shop and buys "vanilla ice cream." We see him at the press event but he is unable to give it to her. After she jumps off the boat into the water and swims back to shore, she stands there dripping and tells Jungha (bodyguard) to bring Chulsu with them to the hotel. As Mari leaves, Manager Suh/Seo stops Jangha, countering Mari‛s instructions to bring Chulsu along. In the hotel room [must be Skeet's suite], Mari sits alone, wet, waiting for some hot tea. As she thinks, a sweet smile of happiness tugs at the corners of her mouth. Meanwhile downstairs in the lobby, Mgr. Suh has intercepted Chulsu... class ul CS: I guess I need to hear what Ms. Lee has to say.
MS: And then?
CS: I haven‛t thought about it.
MS: You think you can handle this?
CS: I haven‛t thought about that, either.
MS: Then do think. You‛ve got plenty of time. Loving someone means you have to sacrifice a lot of things. Like the feeling you‛ve never thought about. Think about whom you should love. You know, there are words that are meaningless to hear and tell. (MS walks away. CS‛s phone starts ringing. He doesn‛t answer...)Up in the hotel suite, the wet Mari sits alone, now thinking about the lover who abandoned her. She flashes back, hearing his voice... class ul EX: I don‛t know when it will be but I will mail them [photos he took of Mari in bed—the one that was recently mailed to her which Mgr. Suh diverted and didn't give to Mari] with a special service that will deliver them in several years. (She flashes back to them sitting together in the palace ruins, her head on his shoulder) ...wishing that you‛d be as happy as you are now. If I am not with you then, I wish you will still remember me, and that someone sweet will be with you. (end of flashback)
Mari: Woojin used to say that to me. I can‛t believe that I‛ve forgotten that. (She looks up and sees a vision of her EX, Woojin, walking past her doorway. Stunned, she stands up. The man pauses, seeing the shocked look on Mari's face. He is holding a dish of vanilla ice cream. It is Son Hayoung's cousin...)
Cousin: Are you alright? I was surprised to see you diving into the water like that. Are you okay?
Mari: (dazed) Vanilla... ice cream?
Cousin: Ohh... (holding it out to her) Want some? (she takes the dish in her hands) I‛m Jung Woojin, Hayeong‛s cousin. (Mari silently stares at him... Fade out)Eunyoung waits for Chulsu in a public area at her university. As he approaches he sees her and is hesitant. He calls to her and waves his hand. She looks at him, begins smiling and runs to him, taking his wrist... class ul EY: Oppa... (CS takes her hand in his)
CS: Let‛s go. (Smiling, he leads her away, holding her hand. CS takes her to the concert hall, sets up two seats for them at the piano) I should have played this for you a long time ago. I‛m sorry. I didn‛t play this for you while I was running away from you. It‛s a bit late, but please enjoy it. (He looks at her, sees tears running down her cheeks) You‛re crying already? I‛ve practiced this to make you feel happy. (they smile, he begins playing Nocturne. As he plays, EY puts her hand on top of his, then rests her head on his shoulder.) In CS's room, reporter friend sees the set of clothes that reminds him of the Popcorn Bag Dude, becomes suspicious then leaves. CS, alone in his room, turns on the TV and watches Mari being interviewed... class ul Interviewer: That‛s right, the most popular book lately, The Lover of Asuka. The classics mentioned in her book have been republished and are creating a boom. And Mari‛s essay tutoring is said to be shown up. (turns to Mari) If I knew you liked books so much, we would have talked about books earlier. So, Miss Mari, why don‛t you say something to the audience before you leave?
Mari: Everyone, thank you for the attention to my movie "Good-bye My Love" and my book "Lover of Asuka." The time I spent in Japan while I was writing the book was like a dream to me. It would be really exciting if you could dream like I did while you read my book. Thank you. (audience applauds) (Chulso has been intently listening to Mari, turns off the TV, a slight smile on his lips)During the night, Chulsu is sleeping heavily when his cellphone rings... class ul Heavy with sleep, CS fumbles around trying to find his ringing cell phone. He locates it, looks at the display... Lee Mari. Can‛t be... why would she call me... CS tosses the phone aside and goes back to sleep. Suddenly he fully wakes up and grabs the phone. Lee Mari? Come on.... it can‛t be. He puts the phone down again, covers up and goes back to sleep. (This connects to the scene of Reporter on CS's bed when Lee Mari calls Chulsu. He hears the phone ringing, finds it under the covers and is shocked to hear Lee Mari on the other end calling Chulsu. What is their connection? he wonders.)Mari and Mgr. Suh argue about his control of her life. He is so greedy about wanting to use her to take himself to a place never before attained career-wise that it becomes obvious to Mari that her manager cares nothing at all about her as a person with feelings and needs. He only wants to preserve the goose who is laying the golden egg for him. She coolly and defiantly tells him she does not need him to make decisions for her any longer. She has decided to marry an ordinary man and quit the business. As she walks away, Mgr. Suh is speechless, then screams at her, realizing his dreams of glory have just been dashed in under one minute. Mari stops, turning back to him... class ul LM: It‛s enough that you fooled me with Woo-jin. You can't fool me anymore. (Mari leaves. Yongha, puzzled at what Lee Mari just said to Mgr. Suh asks: Woo-jin?

I think Chulsu cut Mari off at the pass primarily so he could go back and make things right with Eunyoung. He genuinely loved EY but she is from a prominent, rich family. He ran away abandoning her and himself (his feelings) because of what he was telling Mari—that she was out of his league socially.
Since Chulsu was repeating with Mari what he had done to Eun-young (hit and run, don't let the girl even express herself), I think he felt an overpowering urge to go back and at least give Mari the courtesy of listening to whatever she wanted to express from her heart. CS is pretty slow mentally sometimes when it comes to emotions.
At the train station, he also flashed back to Mari's words that feelings and memories change. I think at that point he realized how much he cared for Mari and that his memories and feelings for Eunyung from the past may be different today. So he goes running back to Mari. However, Mgr. Suh intercepts him in the hotel lobby and puts new thoughts, new apprehensions, into his mind, telling him he'd better do some serious thinking before he runs headlong to Mari, following only his unbridled feelings.
Even though I've said all that, something doesn't feel right here. Why would he run back to Mari and still go back to Eunyoung? The part that bothered me most was the suspicion I had that Chulsu wasn't really reconciling with EY but that he thought by playing Nocturne for her after all this time, that somehow this was going to be making amends. Gimme a break. Did he, or did he not intend to re-establish a relationship with EY? If not, what message did he think he was giving her by showing up, taking her by the hand, playing a romantic song for her? Then he says 'good-bye'? Or did he intend to return to a relationship with her?
BTW, at the very end, someone please refresh my memory. Who is the older man with the entourage Chulsu greets just before Lee Mari shows up on the campus?
