K-Drama: 스타의 연인 (Celebrity Lover/Star's Lover)
I, too, have been noticing with amusement, Chul Soo's attraction with his bag. I think, however, that it has been a very good, subtle clue to his depth of passion and love for reading and writing. An indication of his identity. Mari has all of the up to date, flashy outfits that suggest her position in life, Chul Soo has his book bag! All writers that I know, carry similar bags or backpacks that contain paper and pens for writing down thoughts and ideas, books they are currently reading, etc. It is sort of like an extension of themselves

I understand what curly carrot said--it's his life. Looking at it that way, he picked up the bag without thought. It's more than habit, it's like wearing shoes or needing glasses.
(Peg, I think my mother was attached to hers partly because she had been trapped in a house during the 1933 Long Beach earthquake--she always expected that to happen again, so the purse stayed with her. Even when she was suffering from Alzheimer's, the purse had to stay with her.)

Hyena.
that's a good enough reason to grab your purse. However, I must say that when the first siren howled in the night for an air raid, my mother was out of bed so fast and down the garden into the next door neighbour, and she did not pick up bag.!!....I was still in bed wondering whether it was worth getting up. I had to and I took her the bag. I never got up for a siren again. :-)

K-Drama: 스타의 연인 (Celebrity Lover/Star's Lover)
when I was in university, the place where I boarded was in an area with frequent fires, so I always had this small overnight bag with essentials and important things I cannot do without. so that in case of we needed to move, I had this ready I agree with curly carrot..the bag has become an appendage to Chul Soo...a writers and a thinker's bag. Now that you mention this, I too have a memo pad and a pen in my bag all the time...hey, I practially have my life in my bag too

Re: K-Drama: 스타의 연인 (Celebrity Lover/Star's Lover)
I can now understand why Chul Su has his bag with him all the time. After all my husband used to carry his briefcase every day.. Well now adays My bag is on short shrift. I have a pen and checkbook. Glasses in case. Car keys and several Werthers hard candies. No comb or lipstick or meds of any kind. Getting older I travel lighter !! Oh there is a cell but usually out of battery and I never use it.
I can see in many dramas that the ladies who are of a certain social standing use the fanciest purses. I guess this is product placing.
I don't remember how many episodes there are in 'STAR'... but I have a feelilng it will peter out feebly. How much more can they do with the manager becoming so nasty. He is ruining his own career as well as Mari's. Where will they go from there.

Re: K-Drama: 스타의 연인 (Celebrity Lover/Star's Lover)
Peg, there are 20 episodes, according to a couple of sites I've visited. You're right, Suh is cutting off his livelihood. I'll bet you anything that he was the reason the first boyfriend (he of the vanilla ice cream) disappeared. He hasn't been able to do the same with Chulsu.
Chulsu is one of the more interesting characters I've seen. A man who thinks first and has, until now, acted on those thoughts. He's still thinking, but he's stopped listening (I know, I know, the crass, pat statement, but this character is so complicatedly conflicted). I wonder how long he'll stay with Mari--he knows full well he cannot provide her with anything except moral support. But unlike the first boyfriend, he knew she had to get away from Suh.
Then the "mother." She's out to milk the very vulnerable Eun yong.
Mostly, last night's episode showed clearly how much a pawn Mari has become (besides the incredible voraciousness of the human species). Pulled from the hospital by Chulsu, shoved into a car and then a chair by Suh (an abuser for sure, as we already knew), and then removed to a bolt-hole by Woojin. I felt such sympathy for her. I know that she has caused much of it and she allows herself to be used that way, but I felt sympathy for her nonetheless.

hyena,
Yes you do have to feel sympathy for Mari. She has been in one mindset and on one road in life for so long that when she is faced with making her own freewill decisions she doesn't quite have the confidence. I think she wants to be with Chul Su and she certainly needs someone for protection and guidance. At the same time she knows she is making his life difficult and she doesn't want to do that. Yet she needs to see him and talk with him. He is becoming the same way in a more mature fashion but he will succumb to the many harsh situations that will arrive.
They are in love for sure and just realising that fact. What they will do is now the problem.

nchristi, thanks, I completely missed that about Suh/the first Woojin.
The contract signing wasn't shown on the local channel--don't know if it was cut or what. However, it's alluded to when she goes to Chulsu's place (when she sleeps with the Aunties)--she tells Chulsu that the condition Suh wanted was that she not see Chulsu anymore. Later, on the phone, she tells Suh that she'll keep her promise.
