Re: K-Drama: 카인과 아벨 (Cain and Abel)
I agree about the gore/reality thing. It got to be too much and added nothing to the story. I think the trend in k-dramas started with White Tower, at least that's when I started noticing it.
Great cast, at least on the male roles. You can give or take the women, but then again they really didn't have anything to do in episode 1. I tend to lean toward Shin Hyun Joon over So Ji Sub. I've been hooked on him since Stairway to Heaven. As for So Ji Sub, I didn't like his acting when I first saw him in "Bali", he reminded me too much of Lurch or Edward Scissorhands I've since seen him in other things started to warm up to his acting.
I like that the story does is only showing some of the childhood in snippets and not completely start from square one. If this keeps up and they don't go all the way back, we'll get just enough info as to why and how either one or both brothers got messed up.

Re: K-Drama: 카인과 아벨 (Cain and Abel)
So Jisub in Bali was supposed to be the expressionless, emotionless, proud but an underdog character. I think he was great. According to the PD, the role was his even before the scripts were written.
I like the beginning of C&A. The desert scene was powerful. It reminded me of the movie 'The English Patient'. Then he came in on the motorcycle and that was also nice since his last role in his last drama 'MISA' he was out on the motorcycle. That was five years ago.
I agree that the story is old but I would reserve my Wed and Thurs nights regardless. LOL...

Re: K-Drama: 카인과 아벨 (Cain and Abel)
I have very mixed feelings about this episode. fFrst I like to see JiSub back on screen and he seems to be as good as ever. I also like the actor playing the other brother. He is always interessting. I definitely do not enjoy the surgery scenes because it is BORING!! Beyond words it is too long and too explicit and just BORING...
I missed the immediate beginning so at first I did not register the female director as their mother. She certainly looks straight out of Auschwitz.
Is she really their mother?? How could any mother arrange to have her son murdered. Not possible surely. Maybe if a Royal family in Mediavel times or very early Asian dynasties. Can't quite see it in modern days. However.....
In first episodes they have to set out the characters for us I suppose. I am not enthralled with the girl who sings and accepts the ring. She looks a bit flat to me.
This will have to have some exciting changes in the next episodes for me to get with it.
And I do love so Ji Sub and a member of his biggest WebSite I am JSA 007 indeed...
Peg.

Re: K-Drama: 카인과 아벨 (Cain and Abel)
Hello again,
The woman in charge of the ER was in My Husband's Woman. She played the sister of the lead actress. She had long hair and a totally different image. She was also in Mom's Dead Upset, as the wife of the youngest brother, who was the husband in MHW. Her name escapes me.
Uh Oh, we have to be careful what we say about patiently's boyfriend. I'm with her though, I thought he was good in Bali too. I always like Ji Sub in anything I see him in. Besides, he's very pretty.
I was surprised to see Kim Hae Sook playing the horrible mother. Very different from Min Sook, the earth mother in BB. The brothers, aside from being competitive, seem to have a good relationship. I guess that'll change with time. Isn't the father, the one lying in a coma, the same actor who's in Road Home? This is one busy actor, if I'm right. At least he gets a chance to rest in this one.
I'm going to stick with this one. It looks good and I like the cast.

Re: K-Drama: 카인과 아벨 (Cain and Abel)
Looking for help from someone who watched the drama tonight and also saw the commercial at the end.
There is a commercial with a pretty little chubbycheeked girl who is eating a bowl of vegetable soup. She is enjoying it. It advertises small jars of seasonings for the soups. There is a background sound of music which is a guitar being strummed and a man humming or singing 'LaLaLa etc" near the start of the clip.
This sounds just like an intro to a SMAP song and like Kimura san playing.,
It is driving me crazy because it is not on long enough to show the melody and I can't bring it to mind at all.
If you hear it and know PLEASE post what it is. I wake up in the night and this is playing in my mind. It has been on now for a couple of weeks.
It's worse than a "Small Small World' even......!!!!

Re: K-Drama: 카인과 아벨 (Cain and Abel)
class blockquote Too much blood and guts in this one. Watching them cutting, blood flowing, etc., etc., etc., that's gotten old and in too many dramas of late. It's just for some sort of shock factor to the audience. Who needs it? It doesn't really add anything to the story. I'm not queasy in the least about things like that. My objection is that it is just plain boring and a waste of time.I agree with you. I can definitely do without it . There was way too much violence in East of Eden, too. American TV is this way and I guess they just think this is what everyone wants to see. I've been watching C&A online. Believe me, you are going to want to take SJS in for a scrub and shave as you watch more. In patiently's case, she would take him in even before he needed it

Re: K-Drama: 카인과 아벨 (Cain and Abel)
Peg, I don't know the name of the song you're asking about. I do remember when I first saw this commercial that the song sounded awfully familiar to me, but I was thinking it was an American oldie, not from a K-drama. Could be very wrong, though. After that I've been so entranced by that cute little girl that I haven't even noticed the music. Those wriggling toes, the cute way she eats, her sweet expressions and smile... too precious.
Cain and Able. Yikes. Don't know if the answer was in a deleted scene, or if we will see in tonight's episode, but I was wondering who the heck those guys are with the rifles, the ones who are dragging Cho-in across the desert (after his two gunshot wounds and being left for dead). Speaking of music, the music from that scene where they're dragging him along I've definitely heard before in a K-drama, but can't place it.
Sun-woo. Shin Hyun Joon is perfect in this role. I doubt he deliberately tried to render his father speechless and unresponsive. But his overriding motivation in life is to become world famous for being the first to map the human brain, regardless of who gets stepped on. How ironic that he is now losing control of his right hand. Nothing could be worse from his point of view. Now he is under time pressure to speed up his work before it is too late for him physically.
Then there is the Gang of Three, headed by Mommy Dearest. Look's like she's lost control, though, to Mr. (Dr.?) Oh, who ordered Cho-in's elimination. Then there is the smarmy head of Neurosurgery. He is the ultimate creep, isn't he? I'd sure hate to work under him, or be a patient in his care, that's for sure.
So, Dad is just pretending to be out of it all. It will be fascinating to see how he factors in here, especially if he has only cognitive and not physical abilities now.

Re: K-Drama: 카인과 아벨 (Cain and Abel)
Good Morning Kdrama Family,
Yes, Shin Hyun Joon is perfect in this. He's doing a great job, as always. His look is wonderful too, dressed mostly in black. It really suits him. It reminds me,somewhat, of old cowboy movies, where the bad guy was always in black and the good guy wore white. I wonder if that's what was meant here. I don't know, I only know it works.
I don't know an actor who could pull off scruffy as well as So Ji Sub. He really is very beautiful in some of these scenes. Or all of them. Cho In is so badly messed with, you have to sympathize with him. His disposition is so sweet and decent, its a stark comparison to his mother's and his brother's. How far are these two willing to go to have control? Looks like all the way to me.
Good drama! I'm loving it and the two male leads are making it very easy to watch, besides the storyline.
